Most of those cars actually had more power. There was a gentleman’s agreement in Japan to limit power to 276, but in reality those cars put out a bit more and were simply advertised as having 276HP to prevent raised eyebrows from the public.
Thanks for the upload! In Australia, GM's local branch, Holden, took this platform, lengthened and widened it, and used it as a VN Commodore. I’m just thinking about the whole police controversy thing...why didn’t they buy these cars for the police force instead?? It would make a great police car, it’s four door and there’s a lot of space inside for suspects...

I thought Lotus decided to not use an LSD so that it would be more delicate and adjustable, instead of pushing in corners. The inside wheel always spins with power-slip in the turn.

@@Eeter26 I have to agree with you. The AE86 is a bit overrated as its standard horsepower is only around 112 and people only like it because of Initial D
Well if you want luxury AND performance then yes, the little Toyota is a goner. But I've had one of those "shitboxes" for over a decade now, and have driven various German performance sedans over the years. The German stuff simply cant do low-mid speed corners, not like a Toyota anyway, if I turn in the same way I do with the Corolla they just understeer. Literally the speed with which the Corolla enters a corner catches even me (the owner & driver) by surprise sometimes. And look at prices, some guys below says Carlton's are in the 120k area now, you get 10 Corolla's in good nick for that price. Then there's insurance, from what I heard of U.K insurance rates: Lotus Carlton = Sell your house to pay the insurance for a year. A Toyota Corolla? Ill agree with you on that one because the AE86 is a very good car to throw about in the corners because of it's decent handling and it's 50/50 weight distrubution but the down side of the car is that it only has around 112-118hp so not so much on the straights. The AE86 has a 4AGE and if you put enough work into it you will be quite quick on the straights (if you arent already) but overall the AE86 is a good car and is loved by many such as (alot) of the Irish, Initial D fans and the Drift King himself Keiichi Tsuchiya.
