    Wondering why you put the "isolation transformer" (i.e. the choke used to block common mode current on your coax feedline) so far away from the antenna feed point box? de NK7B

      I actually have to isolation transformers/chokes. One at each end of the coax run. I encourage you to experiment to see what works best for your installation.

    Really nice fixed station installation, Ari! Beautifully done, thank you for sharing. I have a question though; I am not familiar with the HyEndFed 80-40-20 antenna (I thought I knew them all :) ). How long is the radiator on that one? Did Ron build it custom for you? 73 from Tracy VE3TWM.

      Hi Tracy. No its not a custom build. The radiating element is 16.5meters long. The 800 watt rating is nice for when I operate 400 watts, our legal limit here in VK. Unfortunately it appears that this antenna is not a standard offering anymore? I just had a look to share a link however I cannot find it on their website😕 they are my favourite all round antenna due to their convenient size. I also have a 200 watt version that is advertised for 4 bands which includes 10m. It is worth noting that this 800 watt version also tunes on 10 meters, no tuner required. With a tuner and 100 watts I have worked contacts around Australia on 160 meters, which is a non advertised nice bonus 😀 - 73s...

      By the way, I have worked two VE3 contacts on 40m last week from VK2 with this antenna as shown in this video with 100W. I am now keeping my ears out for VE3TWM 😉

      @@radioaxe6964 Tracy, after watching your NVIS antenna in the trees video, I can see where your goin with this. It's a good concept, and might be worth trying if it fits in your skinny yard... since the RG 58 is laying in the dirt with all that coupling to ground, I question the need for the common current choke.. if it were hanging in the air... maybe. Question if you took out the isolation transformer would you notice any difference? and did you put in inline because the long run to the shack?

    • @radioaxe6964
      @radioaxe6964  3 роки тому +1

      The main job of the isolation transformer is to reduce rf current coming back down the coax. Highly recommended if you plan on running more than say 50watts regardless of your coax length.

    Nice one Ari :) What's the cable type? Wondering about loss over that distance.

    • @radioaxe6964
      @radioaxe6964  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Al. For this deployment I used LL195 - Cable Coax RG58 style Low Loss, Solid Centre/Foil/Braid. Total coax length here is about 12 -14 metres so not an issue. Thanks for your question 👍

    What is the make and model # of the 12m fiberglass mast?

      Same brand as the antenna Hyendfed. They don't sell them anymore ☹️

    Hi - did the UV from the sun degrade the masts at all?

    • @radioaxe6964
      @radioaxe6964  2 місяці тому +1

      Not noticeable. Maybe very little. I had them up for about 2.5 years.

    Well 700 800 Watt with that cable, i don´t think that´s a good idea.

      Hi... no me either. I mainly run 100w. Occasionally 200-300w for short bursts. Our legal limit here in VK is maximum 400w.

      @@radioaxe6964 Thanks for the feedback. But dear OM you should never save on a good high quality coax cable. With an RG58 you can not speak of it in any way. At least a good RG213 should be used even if it costs a little more. Regards 73

      @@jochenkrebs9685 Totaly agree. Your transmission medium is one thing you want to spend you money on and save somewhere else if you must. It's worth pointing out I am only at this QTH for a few weeks only, hence the coax just laying on top of the garden bed and the choke under a bucket 😀 Sorry, I should have mentioned in the video that this is a temp installation. Thank you for your comments as I'm sure others would be thinking the same - 73s 👍

      @@jochenkrebs9685 With all due respect, I've run 500 watts on a .26 gauge stealth nearly invisible magnet wire. Goes straight into the back of the tuner near the window. Skin effect? Coax gauge? Not applicable to my station. For nasty RF I use an MFJ artifical ground. Yes at 500 watts and have never had an issue with fire, or anything frying or RFI complaints from neighbors. Obviously I don't run 500 watts all of the time. But there exist so many myths out there. Not your comments, they were fine, except you CAN do QRO with a microscopic endfed magnet wire with no coax at all. Why not a proper antenna? I simply cannot. And I still talk all over the world. It can be done people.
