I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Cotman is not what they used to be at all. What disappoints me is the only art supply store in town carries everything Cotman for the universities and their art schools. I think students could be so discouraged with their work compared to if they used other student grade watercolors that even cost less. Your student grade showdown has been an absolute blessing to me.
Wow, I’ve been curious about American Journey paint! These selections look great! And that Cotman metallics are underwhelming was helpful to see as well. Thanks so much!
So I have few sets of high quality metallic and I find that they need a good soaking, and bit of scrubbing even with a stiff brush and then bam they are perfect. So maybe the tubes are possibly better.
You can't really judge those Metallic Watercolors based off of that small dot card, imo. Metallic Watercolors need a bit of time to be activated and warm water seems to work best to get that pigment going and the shimmer to show. They're also available open stock at my local Michael's, but I'm not sure when they were put alongside the other Cotman tubes. I've seen several of my fav art IG accts use these and right out of the tubes, they appear to be very rich and very pretty. I think Cotman Tubes are far more better and still very budget friendly at $4.99/8ml per tube versus the Cotman half pans...
I had received that same sample of the Cotman metallics. I found them needing about the same level of effort to reactivate as some of the more , um, dramatic, handmade metallics I've bought from Etsy. That said the one thing I really liked about them was how nice and fine the metallic pigments are. It's just a personal preference that I really like that type buttery fine metallics more than chunky ones. Though usually the buttery fine ones are super easy to reactivate is the thing that Cotman really missed. Overall I wasn't too impressed with the Cotman ones. So what I did was I picked the 3 colors I liked best and went and bought equivalent metallic colors from makers I trust on Etsy that way I get the colors I want and I'm fairly certain I'll be happy.
Anthraquinone red pr177 is fugitive when diluted, so Artemis will lose its red, just like moonglow. Moreover, the color may appear different because of pigments separating in the tube. And the health warnings… cobalts in watercolor paint can’t cause anything if you are not using dry pigment and not inhaling it. Even if you occasionally eat some paint, the pigments like PB28 or PB36 are so inert that they will never be absorbed in the GI tract (cobalt violet may, though). So, although being a potential hazard, cobalt in watercolor paint poses close to zero risk. The story about your teacher is very sad, but you just can’t compare professional print making decades ago with watercolor.
I literally never seen anyone get impressed with this cotman sample😅 I appreciate your health warnings, having three kids under three years old makes me panic to think what would happen if they ever went into my paints 😩
Baby girl can I take care of your hands for u . They so sad it's making me sad. Is it psoriasis is it eczema is it just dry skin is bothering me cuz they're in the camera I'm sorry but if it's just dry skin try putting gloves on with a ton of vaseline under at least two or three nights they should be perfect after that and also exfoliating with a stone or a scrub of some sort or sugar scrub. Sugar scrub first then throw them in the Vaseline gloves usually one night or once a week but 3 days in a row if that don't work cuz you're too beautiful to have your hands looking like that. And file your nails . Hands say a lot about a person. I do that to my feet every time they need a pick me up

Have you tried the tubes? I've had wonderful luck with them versus the half pans!
@@Lauraisabelgonzalezart No I haven't but I am sure willing. I will look next time I am at art store. 🎨

at the start, but wasn't sure if you knew that DaVinci manufacturers American Journey- same paints as their DaVinci line, different color names.
I wasn't! Good to know, I really like DaVinci watercolors, and sometimes Cheap Joes is easier to order in the size I want!
