People in my area in michigan mistake the Acara for green terror quite often. Poor guys get sold as an aggressive fish and then get eaten or beat up because Acara are much more docile than green terrors. I think it's the bright blue lines around the mouth and the orange edging that makes them look so much alike.
I keep mine with rainbowfish, redline barbs, and dojo loaches. They all get along. 125 gal. 74°-76° 3 marineland emperor 400's and an fx6( overkill, i know) bi-weekly 50% water changes. They just spawned 3 days ago, after only having them for a little over a month. With any luck, we'll have a few little wigglers soon.
Another gorgeous fish and a really nice spotlight! Thank you for supply me with these informative subject Blue Acara. I will adopt one Blue Acara with one Firemouth. Can I put them together in 150 L tank?
Great info, thanks! Just got a school of these beautiful fish. Have you noticed a whitening of the forehead? One of mine turned up like that this morning. Some folks are saying it's a breeding coloration, and it doesn't look like the speckles of ich. There's no difference in appetite, if anything it's hungrier. My water parameters are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 60ppm nitrate (planted tank, I keep the levels under 80ppm) superhard water with a ph around 7.
@@BlakesAquatics Thanks for the well wishes! I've already split off two into the 125. They went from Barry white and candles to death metal and firebombs, lol!! Hi, i have a 55 gal aquarium, what will you put in there if you were me, i love blue acaras but i don't how many i can put in a 55 gal and what mates are great , any idea? Thanks.
Great video!👍just a quick question I have a 200L planted tank with 2 pearl gouramis and 2 male Kribensis. Will one electric acara be suitable in that tank set up. Thank you
I'm assuming they'll be OK with corys and BN plecos? Other than that I'd guess platys, praecox rainbows, angelfish and powder blue dwarf guarami are all OK? What about a pair of kribensis in that tank too?
I've got a 125L planted tank with a few amanoshrimp and otocinclus in there (no other stock would be added) , how many if any electric blue acara's do you think I could keep in there?
@@falieshalott1437 ive found in a few different independent stores, east coast.. northern nsw to Sunshine Coast ive seen them and i have 2 spawns in a grow out... only the normal blue.. not the noen or electric blues
I've seen some other videos of people having them in with mollies. What are your thoughts on that? I have a 125g tank with 50 mollies/platies/variatus, one bristlenose pleco and three mystery snails. Do you think I could add an electric blue acara as a centerpiece fish in my tank? Or possibly somewhere between 3 and 5 of them. Thoughts??
I like original blue acara much more than electric variant. What is your experience with blue acaras and angel fish? My tank is 666l I have 6 angels and 5 juvenile acaras but I think they are starting to nip on my angels.
I have found it to be a good pairing until one species or another pairs up. That is a good size tank so best bet would be a heap of caves and spawning sites and heaps of line of sight blocks
Okay, but what I really want to know is - will they bite my hand off if I put it in the tank? I've never kept cichlids and I'm a bit skeptical of sticking my hands in a tank with one in it 😅
Hi, i've got a tank of 100gallons and i'm planning on putting a community of African ciclids (Labidochromis Caeruleus, Pseudotropheus Elegans, Maylandia Estherae, Pseudotropheus Demasoni) there. Thing is can i add an Electric Bue Acara there? I know they're from different places but can it be done?
I personally wouldnt but many have. The acara prefers lower ph though so whilst i may be resilient enough to live in that environment it may not have very high quality of life
All suddenly, there are hundreds of babies shown up with the female parenting them, but there are also the male and a third blue acara in the same tank preying these babies?

Because most people don't realize blue acara and electric blue are slightly different. They sale them all as the same.
True. My other malawi cichlids half the size of acara were trying to attack the poor guy, until he was set in the tank. Now nobody bothers him.

Awesome video. Got a pair of regular blue acara who are paired up, hoping to supply my LFS with some as they're quite rare to find here in Aussie
Did that work out for you so far?
@@dynestis2875 It did. Over 750 fry taken to my fish store and they all sold quickly. I have moved the pair on now however.
these are my favorite fish! i know some chichlids can be aggressive, but i have these chichlids with angelfish and tetras and no problems!

Great fish. Gentle for Cichlids and seem not to bother other fish far as I have seen.

I would add to that that they are great jumpers so be aware of that

The kribs may attack an acar if they are a pair, that would be my main concern
I think my 2 Acaras mated? I cant see the eggs but all the behavior is there. Hope this works out.
Good luck
Well I'm getting ready for batch number 3. First 2 didn't make it.
Neither did batch 3. The dad is a prick. Keeps eating fry.
