As my profile picture indicate, my favorite centerpiece fish is a mature pearl gourami male in a tank populated by small fish. A bit skittish, but amazing colors.
mine is actually the dojo loach and my rainbow shark.. . the rainbow shark is my oldest fish, she's great! the dojo loach is wild caught as a fry.. invasive species in lake Washington
Could I have one in my 55 gallon community tank ? If so how many ? I don’t have any centerpiece fish yet so I only have barbs,Cory cats, and rainbow sharks
Agree on the EBA. A colorful, low trouble cichlid with good interaction. The rainbow sharks can be bullies and also suicide jumpers... ensure a good lid.
From my experience with a few different rainbow sharks, they start off small and active but when they get bigger (they get surprisingly big) they get very territorial and mean to anything smaller or that gets near their territory. Definitely watch what you keep with them and be mindful of having caves/driftwood for them.
Hi Cory! I just wanted to say that I love your channel. I’ve been a fan and following your journey for a couple of years now. Your videos inspired me to delve further into the hobby by starting a planted tank and trying out new fish. Thank you for providing new fish keepers such educational and entertaining videos. Also, thanks to you, I started a UA-cam channel last week where I post light-hearted, short videos of the little creatures in my first planted tank. Wish you all the best!
I think this is one of my favorite top 5s you have done!! I have considered a lot of these fish, but didn't know if I was ready to pull the trigger on getting any of them. I like them all!! The dojo loaches have always fascinated me. The Royal Farlowella is one of my favorite fish! Thanks for sharing about these guys. I really try to find fish that will work with my water! This was extremely helpful Cory and Aquarium Co-op!! Hope you guys have a great day!!🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Definitely the best fish I have owned the blue acara. STUNNING 🤩 i had a pair in a 300l tank but I’m out of work and financially was not able to look after them properly. Fingers crossed one day will be able to enjoy these fish again
The size you indicated for the Electric Blue Acara seems more indicative of the Electric Blue Ram, no? Everything else I've seen and read shows them growing up to around 6-8 inches. I've definitely seen them longer them well over 3 inches in person....
Earlier this week I saw wild type blue acara for the first time. They're not as showy as the electric blue acara, but still a really good looking fish!
My first order from AC came in a day early. I get to start Using my easy green easy iron fritz complete and test strips early woot woot Got the cardinal tetra sticker too
Off topic but just fed my Peacock Cichlids Bug Bites for the 1st time. One jumped out of the tank! This has never happened before. Fish is completely fine, but that woke me up this morning lol
They LOVE Bug Bites! My bettas, even the super long finned varieties, will clear the water when I feed the Bug Bites to eat out of my hands. So will the larger guppies and the danios. Bug Bites are literally the only pre-prepared food they get this excited for, lol
I had a black ghost knife years ago, he jumped out of the gap I had cut out in my cover with the hang on the back filter. I looked all over for him one day and found him behind my tank eventually.
Thank you for what you do for the Aquarium hobby. I love short videos that help me learn. But speaking as someone who has to work, your videos that are 2 hours and now the last one that was 3+ hours. Will always be passed by by myself and I think others that have little free time.
@@AquariumCoop my comment is in no way ment to criticize. I just want you to be aware that there some that would prefer specific short videos. If they are over 25 to 30 minutes I will not even start them.
Angelicus Botia. Almost confused with the yo-yo loach. My latest purchase and I could sit and watch them all day. BTW, I did go out and get myself a goldfish cleanup team. Just simple calico plain tail goldfish, I forgot just how fun they are to watch. My substrate has never been cleaner and they are making a serious dent in the algae.
What part of the tank do EB Acaras like? I have space if they like to hang out near the top. If not I'll have to wait until we finish the office. Also, would a 20 long planted with a small school of Harlequin Rasbora be appropriate? Thnx 🙃
I absolutely love dojo loach got a gold/albino outside in my pond. He's like 7in. His name zoidberg for eating habits and whiskers. Acara are very cool. I have one with my oscars and severum.
Have you ever seen a *Bullrout* though? It is my favourite centrepiece predator species which rare purely to it's location and general lack of awareness even amongst people here in Australia. I'm not even sure if they even exist in the aquarium hobby in the US
I have a planted tank that already has two curviceps, some angels, a pair of apistos, a couple of rams, kuhli loaches, corydoras, plecos, von rio tetras, and diamond tetras. Would the electric blue acaras be too big or rough to go in that mix? I’ve always liked how they look, but have been afraid they’d upset the apple cart.
Second attemp keep 5 blue acaras. They have been survive 6 days in my tank. Waiting for 17 days again. If still alive.... I will be feel ”oke” as American Cichlid keeper. Fist attemp..... Total failures
Not feeding for a week is usually no problem but be careful as there are many exceptions like brachygobius aggregatus (all dwarf bumblebee gobies). Generally small fish need food more regularly than bigger fish. Small means
Sonar for the black ghost knife? Naw... They use electronavigation. I know some researchers studying them because they both produce and sense electrical impulses. No sound though. Cool fish!
Thanks Cory the Electric blue Acar Extremely beautiful fish Now have 8 browning them out.Incredible it’s been on my wish list I have no idea what they were until I watched this episode I seen it briefly yeah hospital aquarium it wasn’t too clean thank you Cory my husband love them to
Loved the video you make, which are very much helpful for me as a new aquarist. By the way I loved the rainbow shark, At present I have owned the white Shark.
Thanks for the video! I'm actually in the process of trying to choose a centerpiece for my community tank. I was looking for a cichlid like the angelfish, but the Acara looks perfect. Such a beautiful fish 🐟 Question tho, would they be too big if I had lemon and red eye tetras in my tank as well?
I had a pair of Acara that were laying eggs, I had them in a 72 gallon tank with cardinal Tetras and black neons. I've also kept them with Blue Emperor Tetras as well. They primarily left the Tetras alone, however after I moved the female into a 40 gallon tank with no other Acaras, she started to go after them. My male was always very calm, though he was never by himself with just smaller fish.
Sadly my pair of Acaras killed my bristlenose because she wouldn’t give up her spot ☹️ learned a big lesson in keeping breeding pairs away from the other fish
I rehomed an aggressive "electric blue" Acara that was almost 7 inches. Would you think it may be worth a shot trying to get another one or a few for my community 75 gallon tank?
loved the suggestions ^_^ I'm thinking of getting one Electric blue acara for my (future) angelfish aquarium (100g) which is at the end of the cycling. thing is i'm planning on having cardinal and rummy nose tetras there. Will the Electric blue acara eat them? Also, can the Royal farlowella be added to such an aquarium? thank you!

I know it’s boring but I am a confirmed Betta head! I am having a lot of fun trying to get my orange half moon rose tail to live in a community tank.
I have a school of silvertip tetras in my 20g and there are definitely my favorites.
You should do a top 5 for your favorite North American native fish. Another good video!
I agree!
I would love that!
That would be great
I like this idea as well
..flag fish ?
I’m driving 25 hours to visit your store this summer
Did you ?
Repashy named the food “morning wood” !
Imagine asking the LFS for some of that 😂
Blue Acara's have such a great personality. I really recommend this fish😉

I have an Electric Blue Acarra named Ballew! Love the personality!
I've probably said this before but your top 5 or top 10 videos are the best on UA-cam. Love watching these.
That dog pic for reference (aggression)is kinda personal 😂😂😂
I like the QOTD feature. You should keep it in all videos.
Never seen the farlowella before, thanks for the info 👍

That Goodeid blended well with the Bolivian Rams. I almost didn't notice it.
The fish floating between the fingers for the measurement was great.
