Something quite some creators skip over is the part where they're just messing around with stuff without knowing where they're going, and I love how much of that he's showcasing. He was one of the few in the earlier days that really started to make me realize that, while it's valuable to throw out ideas if they're not working, you'd be surprised how that chord progression sounds when you simply play with the sound etc. etc. etc. You can stop stressing about results and turn those knobs to have fun, stuff will happen if you do it enough, and over time you will become more deliberate, whether you need something specific or more so go with your original approach of throwing stuff against the wall, you will become more consistent. Synth patches were a big thing for me, I threw out SO many patches just cause I hadn't done enough stuff to explore where it could go. Just throw on tons of nuances even if you're not super digging where it's headed. Once the patch sounds alive enough to you, try making some big changes and maybe changing the role of the sound. You've got so much work already done that can be tweaked, so much depth that maybe easily sounds great when it sits in the right spot. This doesn't apply to all kinds of synths, but the ones with a billion different subtle modulations all playing together, I usually find myself creating the coolest ones by not giving up on something. Another random tip that may help people explore more comfortably: Instead of saving to a general patches folder, create a folder for each major patch you work on, and save a new version along each point where you hear something you like that will likely be lost upon playing around more. Put the name of the project you're making it in as part of the patch name if you wanna be able to easily see what your midi and automation etc. was when making it. Patcher/Ableton Racks etc. and separate sound design project folders are all things that can help, just let a recording run and resample if you're ever working with randomness or oldschool gear etc.
Andrew talks a lot about UA-cam, but to me he's still the "Songs to wear pants to" guy. That was such a unique idea at the time and already showcased his creativity, not just musically but in general.
I remember seeing those Maestro units in the music store when they were new. Your UA-cam philosophy of how you make diversified content is a great concept. It makes perfect sense, for you. If the focus is more on you and your love of various styles of music, firstly, it is more satisfying to you and keeps it interesting for you. And as people get to know you and like you, they are more apt to support you in whatever you are doing, even if it is not the flavor of the moment. The variety of content is what drew me to your channel. Well done Agent Huang!
Anyone who overlooks people for being based on social media platforms is too out of touch with reality to have a valid opinion on anything anyway 😂.... Anyone worth a damn knows these platforms are giving a voice to endless talent! 🎉😊
I’m sure most would agree that there is no way your gear “ruins” the aesthetic! That room is full of so many beautiful wonders and treasures!🤩 And if I could keep my space even close to as organized as yours, I’d be in great shape!
Super relatable, the challenges of laying out a home studio and figuring out how to store things (except that I can only aspire to Andrew’s achievements in these areas).
I love the ppl that dedicate their work to sonic exploration with unconvencional approaches. I'm all time subscriber and i love EQD and everything in these channel. so i'm up for the party.
This was great. What a nice dude, I’m an idiot for not really gravitating his way by now considering we both dig a lot of the same things especially in an all around spectrum fashion. Very humanizing interview to see exactly how comfortable he is in his own skin. Humility is hard to come by with alot of musicians especially when they’re are trying to make it somewhere in the music business whatever that is These days, but I think with drive, smarts, and all around ground feel for all musical sounds at some point your gonna break through in one avenue or many coinciding music paths. Give alot of credit to him for doing things his way being the all around dude ya can’t shove in one box, stupidly confusing for some reason to most but I totally get it and appreciate it. Ok, I’ll stop the run on sentence madness hahaha.
Definitely something I could have written, so you spared me the effort ! 😀 I am not much into his music, but I like to live in a world where there is room for this kind of persons to sustain themselves as artists. His general approach and attitude are very refreshing, in this number-fetish and corporate world we live in, so ... kudos to him for showing that a different path is possible.
I wonder if that Maestro device is what Florian Schneider used to process his flute on the first three Kraftwerk albums? "Vom Himmel Hoch" in particular uses some sort of pitch-to-voltage device and envelope follower to make a sound almost TB-303ish.
Love the creativity and joy in exploration, but I also dig the aesthetic of the studio. I find I like my pedalboards to have a color theme along with great sounds (though I have yet to create the all white pedal board!). Thanks for this. 🎶🎸
Dang. Got super excited for a sec but then realized it only comes as a plug in... no hardware option. Whomp whomp.🤖 Wonder if EQD makes a gate. Would love to mess with that!!!
I'm always amazed by the people who can understand modular stuff. Probably the same people who love computer coding. I also like how he thinks he needs to work on organization. He would have a melt down in most of the studios I have been in.
Not a programmer, nor do I know any coding (do love techy stuffs), but I do understand modular synths to a degree. To add in on what Marcusz mentioned, you can try VCV Rack, which is a free virtual modular synth program and there're plenty of tutorial videos out there to get you started.
I am one of those modular people and computer coding us a whole other level! Modular is great because you can really just feel and hear your way through it. 😊
Wow, the best thing is the pedal steel. I always wanted one, but thought maybe it was just a vanity buy. However, I love the sound, and after all it has some many great uses (in sound design).
OMG - you work magick with that Pulsar .... i tried it ...once.... i just could not , for the love of GAWD - jell with it - but when i hear ...like that stuff you just flung out , so casually - gets me all wound up again ! - its abit like the Databender and the basilimus - i looks so appealing - but now i got it - it just sits there and stare at me - with a rude grin on its great looking baseplates .... one day .....ONE DAY ,- have a good evening , and a great new year - Agent Wong ! 😉

Andrew is such a creative force, and he seems like a really nice guy. Really enjoyed hearing this long format kind of interview with him!
was not expecting these 2 to ever collab but im here for it
Brand reps probably reach out to any known artist they think would be down
Andrew talks a lot about UA-cam, but to me he's still the "Songs to wear pants to" guy. That was such a unique idea at the time and already showcased his creativity, not just musically but in general.
Earthquaker an Andrew Huang are 2 of my absolute favorite music related people. Thanks for this one, for sure!!!!!

It's easy to dismiss Andrew as just a UA-cam celeb but he really knows his stuff. Great video!
Andrew is one of the only people that is NOT easy to dismiss as "just a youtube celeb" 😂
Anyone who overlooks people for being based on social media platforms is too out of touch with reality to have a valid opinion on anything anyway 😂....
Anyone worth a damn knows these platforms are giving a voice to endless talent! 🎉😊
He's a synthfluencer. We get it.
I'd love to have Avalanche Run as a module. Andrew is such an inspiration
Yess plss avalanche run
Love the Show Us Your Junk series!
NICE. Andrew's videos are great, but this sort of extended interview format feels so new and fresh!
This is the collaboration we didnt know we wanted, but absolutely needed! Loved this! - cynusmusic
@andrewhuang thank you for being such an inspiration ! Your playfulness and joviality is SOOOOO refreshing ! Cheers from France
I’m sure most would agree that there is no way your gear “ruins” the aesthetic! That room is full of so many beautiful wonders and treasures!🤩 And if I could keep my space even close to as organized as yours, I’d be in great shape!
Infinitely jealous of that setup. Everything sounds cool, of course, but man, what a space to play.
His experimental YT channel Suture Sound is great. Lots of good ideas for modular.
We love you Andrew! Stay awesome!
Earthquaker needs to do an episode with Sam Battle from LookMumNoComputer
Hell yes
10:28 the gear IS the aesthetic!!! your studio absolutely comes across like an art space. Source: am artsitist
That modular synth setup is insane. Awesome episode
Seeing Andrew now throws me back to when songstowearpantsto was the most inspiring thing that no one was doing at the time.
I love Andrew! This is the Junk episode I needed.
@sean.cullen.923
Andrew is someone I have been a fan of for over 10 years. He is an experimental musician's Bob Ross.
Super relatable, the challenges of laying out a home studio and figuring out how to store things (except that I can only aspire to Andrew’s achievements in these areas).
I'm glad I found this series. It's so inspiring!
EQD is the best. My favourite ambient and gain pedals are all from this brand. Also has the best community surrounding a pedal company. THE BEST!
I love the ppl that dedicate their work to sonic exploration with unconvencional approaches. I'm all time subscriber and i love EQD and everything in these channel. so i'm up for the party.
Ohhh my good I love this video. I always wanted a complete "exploration" of his studio.
So cool. I love Andrews creative spirit.
This is one of my fav series on UA-cam
Love this
Another introduction to an artist I hadn’t heard of, thanks to EQD! G’day mates!
oh my god you have years worth of some of the highest quality content on youtube to enjoy for the first time now!
This was great. What a nice dude, I’m an idiot for not really gravitating his way by now considering we both dig a lot of the same things especially in an all around spectrum fashion. Pitch + delay on the ghost module sounded so good
The videos of Andrew in outer space were amazing!
Christ oh Mighty!!!! There must be over a million dollars of gear in this kid's studio!!! Amazing!!!
He's a 40 year old man.
Such a fun episode! Thank you for the deep dives in this series.
Love Andrew’s music and creativity. IG is the same as UA-cam
Thanks for another rad video EQD. Must be super fun to make these 🤖
Great insight int that studio. Can't imagine even dreaming about this much stuff in my room 😄
Andrew put me onto Black Salt Audio's Silencer gate... endless thanks.
🔥
Dang. Got super excited for a sec but then realized it only comes as a plug in... no hardware option. Whomp whomp.🤖 Wonder if EQD makes a gate. Would love to mess with that!!!
Best Pedal company with a great artist ! 🖤🖤🌞🌞
Fantastic interview. It was interesting to hear Andrew talk in depth about these topics.
The collab we needed! Great video!
This was a great episode! I love Andrew's channel and it was cool to see an in depth tour of his studio and get a bit of his backstory.
Heck yeah!
SUYJ is consistently amazing. Thank you!
I'm always amazed by the people who can understand modular stuff. Probably the same people who love computer coding. I also like how he thinks he needs to work on organization. He would have a melt down in most of the studios I have been in.
Its really not that hard ..just start with just 3 or 4 modules .. or dont cause you will go broke
Not a programmer, nor do I know any coding (do love techy stuffs), but I do understand modular synths to a degree.

Avalanche Run!!
Great video! Love Andrew’s approach to making music. The pink Avalanche Run looks awesome! (2campingkids)
That was great! And inspiring! Thanks for putting this together and sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow I'm such a noob not even a noob just such a lover of sounds and synths and so on.just love the lay out wow I'm in awe so cool.
42:50 can I just say, I'd listen to hours of just this on end
Awesome episode of show us your junk!!!
Now THAT is a spaceship if I’ve ever seen one-
Not music I would’ve come across in my usual channels of exposure. Surprisingly relaxing to listen to! Horizon broadened thanks EQD.
Been looking forward to this one. Keep it up with the great content
Really nice (self) portrait of @andrewhuang, one of my favourite you tubers
Glad to see a S.U.Y.J. video with Andrew Huang (including his iconic high five clap at the beginning)!
Awesome video , almost as awesome as owning a pink variant of the avalanche run !! Amazing pedal Amazing company 🔥👹🔥
Unexpected crossover but I dig it
Love the Available Run and this series. Awesome stuff!
Great video! Inspiring! Love the GEAR!!!
Awesome walkthrough. Fun Junk. Andrew's Soundscape Workshop.
I have 2 eqd pedals and i want 20 more, its such quality stuff.
"Boutique, Russian, saturation module" - almost certainly 'Mimosa' by Bizarre Jezebel. Amazing module.
People like modular because it’s sound LEGOs.
This was so sick! Love that maestro effect board!
Came for the pink Avalanche Run, stayed for all the cool junk!
Dude is geeked out to perfection ❤
Always cool to see how others are using gear differently from you.
love the show. you should do an episode with Jack Stratton of Vulfpeck
I love eqd pedals. Thats fire. ♨️♨️♨️
Such a nice talented bonhomme ! Il est vraiment super!
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Wow, the best thing is the pedal steel. I always wanted one, but thought maybe it was just a vanity buy. However, I love the sound, and after all it has some many great uses (in sound design).
Chee avalanche run is amazing but I'm here to win another!
"I don't really care about guitars that much". Then pulls killer tone out in a few knob twists.
Very cool video ! Andrew is amazing !
Never heard of this show. Thanks a lot for interviewing Andrew. @before.you.close.your.mind
Great pairing, if I could get my head around the socials, and clearance for my samples, I'd be on them. Ill stick to live work for now.
thanks, EQD for these ❤
The sound at 7:12 got my attention.
Edit: Got the timestamp wrong.
How long ago was this shot? He looks a bit older and dad-yer in his latest videos on his channel.
Good luck y’all.
loved this video 👍👍 and that Avalanche Run.... seems like that "experimental" rev-delay I need to add to my chain.
I love all the Junk! And the stuffs! This room is a total playground. Great work as always friends! ✌️💙🤘
@sixstringsofmusic
The Maestro is siiiiick

Love this series!
Such a interesting musician 😮
Andrew time lets go
I've started running drums through a bit commander lately and some oddball pedals, has been an awesome way to experiment and come up with new ideas!

Such cool sounds from the abalanche run
