Thank you for this Morgan. Looking forward to a follow up video comparing your experience with the XTNG vs. your existing carb. On a related note - You are a huge fan of bottom end power and I see a lot of riders fitting bikes with low compression heads to tame that low bottom power, in favor of traction. Granted, this is mainly to do with hard Enduro. I will be interested to hear your take on that - low compression vs. higher power off the bottom. thanks
I now have a gen2 Xtng on my xtrainer 300, with the "pilot" circuit adjustment, and also had a gen1 without it on another bike. This gen2 really does maintain pretty much the same bottom end torque as the regular carbs. So in essence you get the better mileage of the metering rod carbs, ease of adjustment and spotless throttle response, with very good bottom end torque.
@@highlandcycles It's definitely worth a try. It really is different than the others on the market. You can adjust on the fly just how rich or lean you want the bottom end response.
Thanks for this video! One detail - your carburetor came with an SI-type metering rod, and it is better suited for cross-country. For enduro (low end performance) the SK-type is used. And one more thing: the designation of the diffuser XTNG does not match, for example, with SC2 - the cross-sectional area of the XTNG diffuser 38 mm is larger than that of the SC2 38 mm.
The manual reads like it was written by a native english speaker, much better than any other Chinese product manual that I have read. Sounds like a very promising product. I run a lectron on my Beta 300 and will be interested to see how this one works.
For technical riding, I appreciate the slight lag with the Smart Carb on my ‘19 300XC. As a novice rider I find it helps with traction and less spinning out. For an expert rider, I can see this as a negative however for a beginner/intermediate riding it can be an advantage as well.
Be interesting to see how well it works. Every Lectron (or like) depends upon the taper of metering rod to deliver fuel as you know. "Bottom end" needs to be defined and understood as to what the carb (position of needle or metering rod) is doing. "Bottom end" to me is just off idle up to say 1/4 throttle. On a normal carb, this is where the pilot circuit is in use (has most effect). That said, on a Lectron, the metering rod taper is critical and if correct should be just as good (off idle to 1/4). If people feel there Lectron works perfectly except bottom end, then I suggest massaging (sanding) that exact area on the rod to allow more fuel to flow. Don't try unless you understand how to define this area because you'll screw it up 🤣 That said, my '17 150SX runs great on a Lectron for Harescrambles in MN 👍🏁
I had a original smart carb on my 2012 gas gas ec300 and after a few teething problems it ran great , it would lug down really low and was like a Motocross bike on the top end , however if you fell off you had to pick it up quick or it would flood , the same if you left the fuel switched on .
The Xtng gen 1 had check valves to prevent the carb from flooding the engine and from spilling it out on the ground like typical carbs. Another reason it greatly improves the mileage.
@Wes Hagler every time it seems to work the very next ride it doesn't run the same. I've done everything they've asked and tried two a 36mm and a 38mm by their request. I believe it works for some specific bikes or similar but it doesn't seem to work for my bike. I'll even admit the first go around was because of issues on my installation etc but this second go around hasn't been much better. I'll even admit when it runs, it runs amazing, but if it's not consistent and it's a slightly different issue every time, with contradicting symptoms, there's nothing left to be done imo
JMO, if your motorbike has a CV carb, it's a 4stroke. Every purchasable metering rod carb I've ever seen does not have an emulsion tube style needle jet. An emulsion tube if essential for proper 4 stroke carburation, IMO
@@mikekenyon3322 then how come they sell one for 4 strokes? I was originally thinking of going with a Mikuni TM40 pumper carb, but not with the drastic elevation changes where I live (Colorado).

Gotta say the billetron on my 300 pulls VERY good off the bottom. I've had many different carbs and this is the best or at least as good as anything off the bottom.
I pretty much gave up on getting my smart carb to work right. The vacuum leak caused by the slide adjust screw is impossible to fix due to the O-ring being placed over the threads which causes a hanging idle and with the off idle response set right it will run lean on top. I wanna see your review. Braaaaap!

Thanks for giving us carb guys some attention!
I could either have sputtering low end or a lean mid-high with my smart carb, and different metering rods only had the same effect at a different click setting. Sounds like this carb could address the large tuning gaps in the smart carb.

Was it a 38? I have a 36 Lectron on my '18 300XC, along with an S3 head with the middle insert and V4 reeds. It barks hard off the bottom (making TPIs I have ridden feel lazy of idle) and it rips everywhere. It did come set up quite rich though. I didn't have to change the rod, but had to progressively lean it out over a few rides to dial it in. Have ridden in freezing weather to 90 degrees, 4K to 12K elevation here in Colorado, never had to touch it since dialing it in. For me the Lectron has been like poor man's TBI. The Lectron's build quality is a little "meh" for the money. The throttle cable is cheesy, and I hate the choke on the wrong side! On the plus side, I would say my bike runs 95% as good as my buddy's TX 300 with a JD kitted and Jarvis modded Mikuni in a variety of temps and elevations, as long as he bothers to fiddle with the main jet and needle for the conditions we encounter that day. It is interesting how some have issues with the Lectron while others have a good experience like I am having. Not sure if that is a quality control thing with Lectrons or what. For sure a properly set up stock Mikuni carb with JD jetting and jet block fix consistently works great for everybody. I was under the mistaken impression that the Mikuni carb was junk, as the easy to do fixes were not that well known back when I bought my bike. If doing over, I would fix the stock carb and save the cash, but I have a Lectron on it and it is working, so I leave it alone under the "it ain't broke so don't fix it" theory 😆

Lectron changed the venturi shape/dimensions with their H-series & billitron. They are fully aware that consumers wanted more bottom end. I've owned the older lectron 36mm carbs & can agree that they are a bit soft... but not as terrible as you make them out to be. With my 2019 250 xc I opted to go with the H-series lectron. It has the performance of a well jetted Keihin. Only better fuel consumption. Better than the mikuni it came with. Which was terrible. All this carb stuff is going to be relegated to the past though. My new 2023 250 xc whips every bikes butt I've ever owned right from the dealership. Might be the first bike I don't do any engine mods to. Time will tell.
I hear ya on the new bikes. My new 300 is hands down the best I have ever ridden but people like me will keep their carb bikes as back up or spares so I am interested in making them better. I don't think the low end is terrible, just not as good.
I only like the fuel injection way better than the carburetion because you don't have to worry about the jetting and all that which is nice but it's expensive
So why was my comment deleted or did it not post? The comment was about the fact that cfmoto owns 51% of Ktm and are a china company even had the link to prove it.

@@highlandcycles ok cool...I messaged you on instagram.
?💰 to buy
I love Chinese food
I saw a post reply on FB... they said 299-399. Not sure if that's true though
I think so.
Don't argue with me comment
Lol
I only like the fuel injection way better than the carburetion because you don't have to worry about the jetting and all that which is nice but it's expensive
My 18 xc 250 wants to breakup with the mikuni, put er on and ring its neck, we will all follow
So why was my comment deleted or did it not post? The comment was about the fact that cfmoto owns 51% of Ktm and are a china company even had the link to prove it.
Huh. I didn’t delete it. UA-cam does weird things sometimes
Oh and an Indian company either owns them or another big chunk.
@@highlandcycles it may had not posted after that last iso update my phone has been junk.
