In a game that was supposed to be infinitely tough to win, Luka went dark mode and decided to eviscerate the Minnesota Timberwolves in a similar way to how he traumatized the Phoenix Suns 2 years ago.
And boy, he did just that.
Long range bombs from way downtown, the stepback into a mid range swish, or a floater inside the paint, Doncic unlocked every possible shot in his bag to punish the poor defenders who were hanging on for dear life.
Dude exploded for 20 points on 72% from the field as it was obvious that he had a mission to finally put an end to this.
Just look at how silly the defense looks jumping up and down all around him, as Luka walks his way inside and floats it up to Lively for the jam. This is too easy. (LIVELY LOB FILLER)
And when Minnesota trapped him to get the ball out of his hands, Dallas used the 4 on 3 advantage.
A 16 point lead at the end of the first quarter. If the Timberwolves wanted to stay alive in this one, they knew they needed to go all out right now.
Only thing is, it was Kyrie’s turn in the second.
15 points on 5 for 5 in the quarter, and this is just toying with the opposition. A long 2 off the glass, as if he’s on the practice court.
And defensively the Mavs defense made things extremely difficult for the Timberwolves.
Make or miss, they had to work hard to even get off a shot.
And on the contrary, Dallas did everything they wanted offensively, so by half time the lead ballooned to a staggering 29 points.
This looked awfully similar to that catastrophic loss for the Suns 2 years ago where Luka came in on their home floor and absolutely destroyed them.
He’s becoming a master of demoralizing the opponent in an elimination game on the road, as he and his team continued to pour it on, on the Timberwolves in the second half as well.
A lead that was as big as 36 at one point, never fell lower than 26. In a shocking turn of events, Luka kept making shots and kept talking trash to the entire arena, every chance he got.
So, with the Magic Johnson trophy in his hands, he leads the Mavs to the NBA finals for a showdown against the Boston Celtics.

Interesting observation from this series: the conventional wisdom is you can't have two non-perimeter shooters on the floor because defenses can collapse. But if you have genius point guard/ultra scorers like Luka and Kyrie, it doesn't matter if you have Gafford and Lively on the floor at the same time. It's killing the opposition because they both provide interior D and are dunking lobs like crazy.

As a Mavs fan from Texas DFW I can say when Luka first got there I did not like dude. He always has had an arrogance to him. At the same time once Kyrie got there, he made Luka not show boat as much and brag as much. However I watched that game 4, and what happened as far as I could see was that the Wolves were playing hella dirty game 4. They kept smacking Lively II across the back of the neck and head.
