"Destroyed by fire..." - how very convenient. Seems to happen quite a lot in Glasgow, the proliferation of these blocks of "Student Housing" is everywhere. Someone's making a pile!
It's amazing how flammable long-standing buildings become on Glasgow City land being eyed by developers for students. Scotway House, Castlebank St, Partick stands out for me. What the hell was in that safe though!?
Love the channel...I would love to see one on the old briggait and markets my parents were still holders for 30 years god I would love to see inside the old railway tunnels nowadays x
So sad, this. It's criminal what they've did to the High Street which was once filled with character, and characters. Now a completely soul-less area full of student flats.
Oh i remember there used to be a cafe near that pub that seemed to be open 24 hours we used to go in there about 3/4/5 in the morning after the clubs - when you came out it was daylight sometimes - always a strange feeling it getting light as your going home or to wherever your kipping - i suppose its long gone now too
I had one drink in that bar around 8 years ago and everyone was having a great time seemed to be a genuinely local bar. Sad seem the council is destroying a lot
It is sad when old buildings go but I think the private owners of the buildings surrounding it that were left to become derelict and whoever started the fire are more to blame than the council.
The high street is part of the oldest map of Glasgow leading from the river to the site of the castle where the royal infirmary now sits. The building to the left of the site was, I think , a branch of the Linnen bank or CO OP bank and across the road was the original site of Glasgow university before they sold the land to the railways for a goods depot.

It was arsen-the pub was a dive during the pandemic , even got shouted back n by 1 female who was always on her fone , I laugh at her never went back in, dont like water pints, glad this pub is gone

Didn't seem like the place for a flaming sambuca but for one night only there were flaming lagers, flaming cokes and flaming water, all on tap.

Research the adjacent building, and the High Street in general. I think it is the oldest ( or damn near ) street, and surrounding area, of Glasgow.
