Great video thanks! I did summer 23 in 4:40 so with these tips and not stopping at turnaround for 15mins to fix a blister, sub 4.10 seems a realistic if very challenging target for Jan 25, as it should be! We were definitely guilty of some 'strolling' after the main descent from Pen Y Fan too
ive done many fan dance test marches trained across brecon for many years. from what im told 4h10m is the extended time for winter selection... 4h is cut off for summer selection but as a whole 3h50 is the standard that DS expect from candidates.
That sounds right. I know those who stay with DS tend to come in between 3h30 and 3h40 in summer and then some additional time is allowed for stragglers. I went with Wikipedia time because it's the only one I have a shout at achieving 😉
Hi Ferdi, great video as always. I'm doing the AEE Fan Dance this summer, so some really helpful tips in the video. If you could guess, how much actual jogging/shuffling would you say you did distance wise to get under 4:10? Thanks, and see you in the hills!
Probably 7 to 8 out of the 23km but I can get away with running less because I'm above average on the uphills so the first ascent and Jacobs ladder I tend to be overtaking people. Someone who's less strong on the uphill probably needs to run the Roman Road both ways. Good luck mate!
I haven't noted those down but I do recall I got to halfway point under two hours. Next time I go for speed I'll take note of them. Thx for the suggestion!
23 and 22R Selection has always been a bit of a mystery to me tbh unlike 21 and Regular. This looks a stunning area tbh, is it the Galloway hills or Lowlands? I've just celebrated 50 years in mountaineering with an ascent of The Devils Slide on Lundy with a few Ex Cdo colleagues and have now reverted to sub 2000s, looks like this area is worth a visit 👍👍
Love this. I’m doing aee this weekend. So did I understand correctly you don’t really run until the way back from the summit the second time? Be great to know what sort of time it took you to reach the summit first time
Sorry I saw this too late. I also shuffled bits on the Roman Road out and roman road back but not fully pushing it. Yes then down from PYF summit hard charge. Hope it went well!
Brilliant ,doing fan dance in June second time for me , wanna beat my time 510 , had proper cramp last 30 mins to finish hoping for 445 this time , be good
Forget to put this up in june after 2nd fan dance this year . yesss beat my time by 2o mins final time 4 hours 5o mins really happy no cramps drank more water before and during andc felt more hydrated this time
@HardRoutineFSVB you really think so?.. maybe I'll come and enter it next time... it was disgustingly hard 😆 when do these events happen? I went up there by myself as I was helping my friend move into a flat in Cardiff
@@Northcoasttrees there are various providers. TSFE, AEE and First-In-Events to name a few. I'm happy to recommend all of them have a browse and see if any fit your schedule.I

Great advice, thanks. I'm doing the FD on the Sunday, it'll be my second attempt. First time I injured myself, so this time I'm hoping to finish it. 👍
brilliant see you there!

Great video thanks for sharing! What are your target check point times?
Top of PYF, half way point, return PYF ETC?

Good luck! 👊🥾
Get plenty of electrolytes in your water. That should help with cramps. Elete are the best that money can buy.

First time doing it the other week, i was carrying 35lb and water i ran it in 3hrs 6mins... i went to corn du twice.. do you skip it on the way back?
Depends, some providers have slightly different routes but that’s an incredible time. You could win it if you did out and back with weight in 35lbs!

@@HardRoutine_TOTW thank you very much.. I'll have a look into it, I may even bump into you at one of these!
There is no standard time, your selection ds and other spotters will look for character and admin as this beats any time limit
Thx for the background!
