It would seem that most people wanted to see what pans out next in story mode. I will be releasing the continuation tentatively tomorrow around noon. :)
Man I really like the model you used here. More svelte, slightly rounded, atmospheric engines, bigger cockpit. Makes it look more appropriately like a Starfighter with lambda elements than a scaled down lambda with a single person cockpit. I like it even more than the blockier fractal sponge render.
It feels weird to have you use assets from Rebels since the super early release of TIE Defenders in Rebels kinda killed any chance of a "Canon" Xg-1 (Which is good because it means the XG-1 won't end up in some trash written by Wendig.)
One of the best videos you made, Admiral Thrawns pragmatic and impartial assessments of even projects he has his own investment in just makes for great story telling.
"Unfortunately is is rarely seen outside the X-wing series of games" If there is one game that is in serious need of a reboot. It is the mission focused X-Wing games. Not every game needs to be an open world glut.
Very awesome job man. Instant subscribed for this unique angle of analysis. I love stardock, eckhart's, and the other similar creators. Providing awesome tactical analysis within a story/military campaign setting is perfect and would fill a very important need in the lore-verse! Can easily incorporate capital ship strengths/weaknesses/tendencies and really get a lot of good information out. Keep going with Fel, Thrawn, and Tarkin and show a TIE fighteresque campaign!
This is one of my favorite Imperial fighter craft form the X Wing series of games. To me it was essentially the Imperial take on the B-wing and an overall better craft all over for having greater speed and maneuverability while retaining a decent payload.
I like the idea of more Starfighter video's like this and to see what Thrawn and Fel do next. Basically I want to see an analysis on the pros and cons of a TIE Fighter.
God I loved this ship! It's a Y-Wing on steroids without the stupid firing arcs of a B-Wing. Not quite as powerful as a Defender, of course, but powerful ship for it price. Back in TIE-Fighter it was my 3rd favorite ship, even over the Advanced. When the Missile Boat was taken away and I had to fight Defenders in an Advanced I was wishing for one of these instead.
Man, imagine if trawn truly had his way and had the best of the best ships and fighters the top of the line tech, and his briliant mind, he could probably secure the galaxy and sectors quite well. heck just imagine if he controlled his own part of a sector where civilians are compliant, and loyal. Heck i'm sure many would be willing to serve under him.
I wish the Fels were canon. Soontir created a dynasty that stood for at least 100 years or more, and I hope someone like him ends up replacing the New Republic (which is less effective than even the Legends Variant).
I would see those portrayed as assault gunboats in the Thrawn trilogy, Talon Karrde encountered a few of these things on patrol at Bilbringi if memory serves.
Outstanding, simply outstanding!!! As a former physics and math major, I prefer that Resurrected Starships do technical pieces but, your storytelling is quite good in incorporating the technical aspects of the ship characteristics. Seeing an ion cannon or photon torpedo explained as close to our science as possible (with some liberties, albeit) will help inspire future engineers and scientists just like Star Trek and Star Wars did for me in the late '70s and mid '80s. Bravo Zulu guys. Keep it up. :)
The Tau Gunboat (Tie Fighter Series), was my absolute favourite as well. The SLAM System allowed me to fire missiles, and then fly right by them en route to my target. It was glorious...
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve watched this video at least a dozen times and find every aspect of the video inspiring. From the the explanation of it’s capabilities, to the tactics discussed, and the visualisation of it all.
Good looking fighters. I suspect they will perform best in atmospheric combat as the microjump tactic will require extremely coordinated strategic planning to be fully effective. Under Thrawn, they will no doubt be used efficiently, but an average empirical admiral will probably attempt to use them as a standard tie fighter, thus undermining their effectiveness. Just my quick 2 cents on it. Good video by the way; well done!
These starfighters were quite vulnerable to X-Wings and A-Wings. The low speed lets an X-Wing keep the laser recharge rate on full and shields at three quarters. The large rear profile also made them easy to hit.
This craft was put into service a lot earlier than the tie defender mentioned in the video. (And long before Thrawn was promoted to Grand Admiral.) Also: It's made completely obsolete by the tie defender. The missile boat on the other hand is a great successor to the gunboat.
It is totally within thrawns character to explain things that should be obvious. But I picture this is an everyday conversation with the Grand Admiral. It feels like a chapter out of Heir to the Empire so good job on theme and execution.
Loved the video! This ship needs so much to be re-canonized! PS: please do some of the TIE prototypes next: x1 (Vader's Advanced), x2 (Avenger), x3 (prototype Interceptor) and x7 (prototype Defender).
I think it had one "Light Blaster" rear-mounted turret on the said rear or rather two. Likely help with the survivability of the craft. As a fighter would simply not be able to slide in on the rear and blast away. It does not have to be a large blaster or be manned. Rather just be controlled by the gunner from the cockpit. Just a thought. At least if I see this craft in the Star Wars RPG. I'd do that in for a custom build. Maybe shift the top turret to the rear and add a ventral one to cover the bottom of the craft.
2:38 that could actually be counter or even use against that fighter in two ways: 1.- A system of countermeasures could divert and eliminate the warheads, letting the point defense systems or the fighters destroy the ship without worrying about the missiles/torpedoes 2.- While releasing the payload to a predetermined target (fighters or a cruiser) another fighter could attack the ship from behind, and given that it doesn't have rear guns, an interceptor like an A-wing could chase it and taking it out with its missiles or laser cannons, the same goes for other fighters, but since the A-wing is faster that most of them, nicluding the XG-1, it will be the best to the task, also in case that the interceptor carriers a countermeasures system, it will turn into a direct counter to the starwing. But even considering that, this is a very strong ship
This was my favorite ship back when the TIE Fighter computer game came out. I'm pretty sure that game had the TIE Advanced and TIE Defender in it as well as pilotable ships. Even though the gunship was slower than an X-Wing it more than made up for it with it's shields and weapons loadout. I'd love to see these in a film or TV show but we'll probably never get that.
I always liked the hardcore technical data. As a kid my favorite part of the Star Wars films was the space battle in Return. I'd get my hands on any kind of schematic type of drawings of the starships that I could. You've kinda got a little story and a little information in this one so I'm good with the style.
GUNBOAT GUNBOAT GUNBOAT!!!!! My absolute favorite Non-TIE Imperial ship, easily, and actually second only to the Bomber at that. I miss flying under the command of Thrawn back in the day
You and other star wars fans who follow this channel may be pleased to know that the featured starfighter in this video will be an official miniature in the tabletop miniatures game Star Wars: X-wing when Wave XII is released: www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/8/21/bring-on-the-alpha-strike/
Those things were a pain in the ass, in the X-wing game.... You had to slow down to their speed and pound them with ion cannons ( If a Y-wing ) or just pound the crap out of them with the turbolasers and budget out your missiles as a X-wing. If you messed up maneuvering, you were screwed.
If possible, and assuming this doesn't exclude Legends content, how about the Missileboat being shown as a possible Defender killer during Zaarin's bid to depose the Emperor? Just a suggestion. And, Happy Fourth of July to you too.
Before Zharin-s project for the Tie avanger and later the defender, this was the only thing with hyperspace capability and proper armament and defensive measures in the Tie fighter game. Apparently in the new canon these are designed later now?
One of my favorite strike role fighters in the TIE Fighter game....And a major migraine to fight in X-Wing!! These were some of the only fighters where the Empire put some thought into the role they were building them for. THE TIE Defender being the only other one.
Just to clarify my previous comment: Assault gunboat - Heavy Space Superiority/Strike TIE Defender - Advanced Medium Space Superiority/Intercept The Missile Boat from TIE Fighter's expansions was only moderately well designed - very quick manuverable for its size and decent armor, heavy ordinance, but a poor beam weapon loadout that cross powered the SLAMs so extended SLAM use could leave you weak in a knife fight.
I'm confused... sure my info is waaaay out of date, but didn't Gunboats come before any of the shielded TIE craft? Also, I'd agree with that one officer, outside of missions that require a more affordable craft with Ion cannons, if you have TIE-Advanced and TIE-Defenders already entering production, why would you think this craft brought much to the table?
My guess would be that it would share a relationship with the Tie defender and Tie advance similar to the relationship between the Xwing and the Ywing. The Defender/Advance would serve as the dedicated fighter like the Xwing and the Gunboat would fulfill the torpedo bomber role like the Ywing
I'm pretty sure that the Assault Gunboat was built before the TIE Avenger and TIE Defender. Now let's see the Missile Boat from the TIE Fighter Series!
Ah, the Starwing. A personal favorite of mine. I hated fighting them and I hated flying them. Wish this craft got used in Squadrons instead of the TIE Defender, as they're a bit more balanced.
They look nice, but the low speed is a killer, as others have pointed out. Countering this disadvantage requires a specific strategy which can eventually be countered itself. In the end, this is best as a strike craft or interceptor. I don't think highly of it as an escort, as it may be involved in drawn out battles as the defender, for which it is ill-suited. IMHO.
Just like the lambda class shuttle but a fighter version. I dig it. 😆 Is this better than Tie Defender? I think the empire would've win if they used this and the defender. ☺

HO YESS you too thing that gun boats and missile boats are awsome?
Man I really like the model you used here. More svelte, slightly rounded, atmospheric engines, bigger cockpit. Back when I was a kid playing Xwing vs Tie Fighter as the empire, this fighter was my go to selection in every engagement when available.
One of the best videos you made, Admiral Thrawns pragmatic and impartial assessments of even projects he has his own investment in just makes for great story telling.
"Unfortunately is is rarely seen outside the X-wing series of games"
If there is one game that is in serious need of a reboot. It is the mission focused X-Wing games. Not every game needs to be an open world glut.
TIE Fighter in particular, playing as (at least initially) a disposable pilot in very disposable craft made for an interesting experience.
Rho Rho Rho GUNBOAT!
Hear the Rebels scream.
Hyper in and get the win
and shoot the ion beams.
"This is Gunboat Rho, here to assist" is music to the ears in certain Tie Fighter missions.
lol dude lol, you awesome
Oh ho ho, this is great:D Voice acting, animations, and infos... all are cool
Impressive most impressive!

Yup! Go with the story angle. I'd also like to see a video on ion cannons.

OH OH What if Benicio Del Toro is a Fel? He certainly looks like one. But yes the Fel Dynasty was one of the highlights of star wars legends.
I will buy 1000 immediately.
fuck you I'm buying 2000
I'm buying 200" for my fleet
2000 sorry.
I'm replacing all the ties on my flag ship the "silencer" a imperial star destroyer mk 2 I'm tired of x wings n all there bs.
your thrawn impersonation give me chills. the voice is different but the speech rhythm seem almost identical to rebel's thrawn actor.
I enjoy 'being' Thrawn. But yes I cannot make my voice identical to the rebels actor but his rhythm is perfect imho.
@@resurrectedstarshipsI may be able to potentially help in that category. Shall I DM you?
I love the way you put this together.. Man, I would greatly enjoy a conversation with you on what software you use..
Have you two ever collabed with each other?
I love the Assault Gunboat. Good to see a video on them. Are you planning on doing anything around their bigger brother, the Missile Boat?
I keep getting requests for it so I should...eventually.
Cool! Thanks! I look forward to it. No rush though. When you're ready.
This was really well put together, and a really unique way of presenting one of my favorite Imperial ships!
That is one fighter I would love to see made canon. I loved it in Tie Fighter.
I got excited when I heard Commander Fel being mentioned.
I'd like to see more of this. The Tie thing is so boring.
I would see those portrayed as assault gunboats in the Thrawn trilogy, Talon Karrde encountered a few of these things on patrol at Bilbringi if memory serves.

Oh man! I love LOVE the Gunboat. Was great in the TIE Fighter series. Missile Gunboat would be great also. Hopefully they will add it in Rebels.
The Tau Gunboat (Tie Fighter Series), was my absolute favourite as well. The SLAM System allowed me to fire missiles, and then fly right by them en route to my target. It was glorious...
it was called missile boat, not tau gunboat. tau is a name of a squadron.
Well... I really hope Fel will be recanonized.
Jagged Fel was one of the best characters in EU... so Soontier is kind of necessary :D
damm the voice acting is good
Thank you; its hard to get thrawn right!
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve watched this video at least a dozen times and find every aspect of the video inspiring. From the the explanation of it’s capabilities, to the tactics discussed, and the visualisation of it all.

I'd like to see the mission you have in mind for the gunboats.
These starfighters were quite vulnerable to X-Wings and A-Wings. The low speed lets an X-Wing keep the laser recharge rate on full and shields at three quarters. The large rear profile also made them easy to hit.
Beautiful work. Have shared on the FFG X-Wing forums, because GUNBOAT.
Is that the game forum?
Yeah, the forum for the miniatures game. We've been hoping for this ship for years now.
There's literally 6,000+ posts there doing just that!
Statement: This craft is also in Empire at War
This craft was put into service a lot earlier than the tie defender mentioned in the video. (And long before Thrawn was promoted to Grand Admiral.) Also: It's made completely obsolete by the tie defender. The missile boat on the other hand is a great successor to the gunboat.

"We already have TIE Defenders..."
No you don't. Not according to the olde TIE Fighter game anyway. heh. Ahh well.
They were tough, but as an X-Wing pilot I wasn't afraid of them. and I chewed them up in my A-Wing. It was an even match for the Y-Wing.
Loved the video! This ship needs so much to be re-canonized!
PS: please do some of the TIE prototypes next: x1 (Vader's Advanced), x2 (Avenger), x3 (prototype Interceptor) and x7 (prototype Defender).
I would prefer good new designs instead of old where someone thought it's enough to just put more wings on it. It looks lazy.
Fernando A. Prado what about the v1?
I think it had one "Light Blaster" rear-mounted turret on the said rear or rather two. Likely help with the survivability of the craft. As a fighter would simply not be able to slide in on the rear and blast away. It does not have to be a large blaster or be manned. Rather just be controlled by the gunner from the cockpit. Gosh!!!
I just LOVE the sound the baby makes in flight.
What a purr!
This is a clever and entertaining scenario. I could totally see such an XG-1 demonstration go just like that!
Cool to see a write-up on the gunboat, in the original X-Wing computer game those things were tough to take down.
personaly I'd like to see the missle boat demo video like this one. for those of us who plaied the game loved that fighter. along with the gun boat
As far as I know this ship is now canon as it has just been added to X-Wing Squadron miniature game under license to Fantasy Flight Games.
I always liked the hardcore technical data. As a kid my favorite part of the Star Wars films was the space battle in Return. I'd get my hands on any kind of schematic type of drawings of the starships that I could.

You earned a new subscriber, loved the "tactical analysis" framework, and hope to see it repeated in the future! 😃

this is exceptionally well done, and im 5 years late
I played the game Tie Fighter Back then. I hated using this ship. I was so slow that called it the Assault Tugboat.
cool video style man, subbed.
I’m 6 years late and it’s still good.
You left out their biggest downside: They guzzle fuel like it's going out of style, and you gotta fill it with premium!
This reminds me of the tie fighter game when the new ships are showcased
It looks like a Buck Roger's EDD Thunderfighter.
This seems to well thought out for Imperial use. A pure ambush fighter, it would need more sub-light speed however.
I wouldnt mind seeing more about this Star Fighter,
lets see more on this story. reminds me of the game TIE Fighter. Thanks for sharring this with us
That was pretty good & interesting, Nice!
I look forward to see more of this story
That model would be Nice as a mod in Empire At War
this makes me want to play the old TIE Fighter game :)
Anyone who played XWA knows that these are really strong fighters.
The Assault Gunboat vs Thrawn's Missile Boat
Pretty nice animation, although I would point out the S-Foils on the Assault Gunboats are jointed in the wrong positions.
thrawn seem so proud
I've said it before and I'll say it as many times as I have to: Thrawn scares the shit out of me
he scares everyone
The force shall set you free.
i would really like to see the story of thrawn and theil to continue
I would, instead of buying a few, would buy everything in stock of em'
Do you more of these starwing videos
Keep doing these I like them n thrawn need to look at tie defender's.
Cool love the format
They should bring this into a comic
I remember this from the Tie Fighter game.
Can you do a video of the inquisitors tie advanced v1?
I love your models
My models won't sleep with just ANYONE...oh them kinda models, thanks!
IMHO.
Stealth tech is important for that
more of this story please!
Just like the lambda class shuttle but a fighter version. I dig it. 😆 Is this better than Tie Defender? I think the empire would've win if they used this and the defender. ☺
Nah these are much cheaper than TieDef . These are more of an assault fighter rather than multirole space superiority fighter like the defenders, but there is also a missile boat version that is quite potent.
That's a pretty model! Tie Fighter HD when?
Starwings are superior to TIE bombers. I hated flying T/Bs in TIE Fighter.
I know what my star fighter would be in star wars.
I would like to see
what is done with the starfighters.
To resurrected Starships I Believing should I go to and the continued start with I know that they're far more informative and most of the books and manuals and group regarding science fiction items and stuff Like it
That was dope!
Do how photon torpedos work.
Srećko Čuvalo photon torps are in star trek... proton torpedoes are in star wars.. just saying. 👍 peace and long life
5:59
obviously the videos author had a typo.. as I posted photon torpedoes are used in star trek NOT in star wars it's a pretty common mistake.. as how they work.. plenty of information online through wookiepedia ;)
get help.
I like both franchices so yeah I meant photons, but COULD to protons, could do both, I said both but it was hard to hear...protons, photons....masons!
Oh yeah, this existed...totally forgot these one ship existed, funny
Gunboat reporting!
I just love the gunboat!
This was awesome.... i am going to play some tie fighter now. lol
Huge profile=huge target
The TIE Defender and Avenger came after XG-1.
Both both both do both these are very good vids
