On wyze.com it says: "Using the RTSP firmware will prevent the camera from supporting any future functions or features in the Wyze app.". Does this mean you can longer view it from the app, or use the features in the app?
No, it will still be able to be viewed from the app, but certain features, ones that come in the main firmware updates like person detection, will not be included in the RTSP firmware. Thats the bad part of this "fix" they have for RTSP.
I have three WYZE cams in my bedroom\audio studio for beta testing (easier to reboot cameras) I have two first generation V1 cams (still have two more unopened) and I have one PanCam situated between the two V1 cams. I have them on my window sill and pointed toward the street so the one on the left V1 is angled to the left and the V1 on the right is pointed to the right and the PanCam is in the middle. I have them as far from the window as possible to it minimize distortion of the window screen. I set the four presets on the PanCam to pan left to right looking only outside so it never covers anything in the bedroom. I have it set to record tracking and tagging😊
Woah! Now that’s quite the setup! Wow! Right now I have 1 V1 outside in the back, a V2 outside facing the front yard/driveway/front door, 1 V2 for testing and a pan in my kids room mounted on the wall to see both cribs. All working great!
Has your gear list changed since you made the original behind the scenes video? The video quality in this video seems better than the what I watched in your gear video. Is that just experience, or did you change something? Thanks for the channel!
Oh! Yeah, things have changed a bit. Still using the same Zoom recorder for audio, but now using a lavalier mic hooked up to it. As far as the video, I am actually now shooting on my iPhoneXR, hence why its now done in 4K. I just had too many issues with focus and setup with the DSLR. If I had it set and never moved it, might be better, or if I had a more updated and newer DSLR that I could use my phone to check focus I might have kept using it, but I went through too many recording sessions that when I imported it into Adobe, found it was fuzzy or way out of focus. SO I said enough with that.
rtsp wont accept the username and password? says needs to be 4 to 10 characters. even if i put more than 4 still says the same thing, cant get past that part. the rest of the setup went without a problem. got the rtsp option on the camera advanced settings go to it turn it on and then when asked to create username and password. it doesnt take the user or pass, just keeps saying more than 4 characters even when there is more than 4. any suggestions?
Sadly no, never had that issue. I’d suggest first resetting the camera, and putting Wyze main firmware back on. Update it all and then download the newest wyze app update, and then reset it up with the most updated rtsp firmware and go from there. If all else fails, contact Wyze, their support has been very helpful.
I tried to use bluestacks to view my cams before, but it was to much of a resource hog for my older laptop...i am hoping this works better....so thank you for sharing!!
If you have am extra phone you can do it pretty easily. Just download the app on that device and log in. Then simply screen share live on UA-cam . Just make the stream unlisted/private so only you can view. You can then access it from what ever device you wish. Just make sure the device you're streaming from is plugged into a power source.
Good question! HAHA, very true as well, but it is possible. The reason is because holding that button will happen before it starts to rotate. If it rotates, you've missed the window to hold the button.
Once this is done. Is the URL a local IP? can it still work just off the network and no actually internet connection to the outside world is required? This is the end results I am looking for is being able to use these like a CCTV security with my home network but still function without the internet. Great instructional video!
they just released update to "HUMAN RECOGNITION" to reduce number of false messages due to other things moving in front of camera such as cats or dogs... downloadable for you and your cam. it is added to cams being shipped now.
Thank you for this video! I have a Windows-based cell but CANNOT download the WYZE app to my cell! I've been working with WYZE but no-luck yet. Question - I am planning on using this WYZE V2 Cam at a location with no Wifi AND use the SD card. Will this work - to format the Cam to my computer, place the cam in the separate location, record on the SD card and remove the SD card, in order to take to my computer to look at the SD card recordings? Will this plan work? THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
Do the RTSP streams work over wifi without internet access? I have limited upload bandwidth and am looking for a solution to view the wyze video streams locally without having to view a stream that is first uploaded to the cloud. Thanks
@@GrossTechnology 4.9.4.108 is the version I'm on. I just did an update about a week ago to the latest version where they added person detection and before I updated the app I had RTSP at the very bottom in the advanced setting but as soon as I updated it that went away.
Well you can install it on as many as you’d like, but if you mean viewing multiple ones, that would depend on what software you are using to view the stream. If VLC like in my video it is only one at a time. But there are some that can view multiple RTSP streams at once.
If u want continuous playback yes u will need a card for each camera. So it's an extra what 5 to ten bucks, still cheaper n better than all the others. Walmart has a decent 1 in same price point with same features. I think it's Mercury
Great video!! Question, in the Wyze page says that using the RSTP protocol will disable future app features, so if I am using right now the RSTP firmware and I want to go back to the original firmware what should I do?
That is correct, so you'll have to re-flash the camera back to the most recent firmware. Check out my newer video about how to do this called, "Installing Firmware on Wyze Cam - Getting Rid of RTSP"
I never got a solid blue on the cam it keeps going to yellow and she keeps saying ready to connect every time. I even went to the website as instructed still no results.
I am considering buying three cameras. I wonder what you are using for central, to which all cameras are connected? Is it possible to use a mobile phone that has a broadband subscription and run with a hot spot? Or do I have to use a computer and with a router and internet connection? My wish is that I could use a computer and, for example, have three cameras connected and record each camera in full screen that chooses in a live recording. Would be perfect if you could run multi-camera systems with Wyze Pan Cam 2 live in one during a worship service or concert live. Is this possible?
The Wyze cameras all connect through their app so no need for any centralized system. Just download the app and view them wherever you are. They can only be used through their app, so no you couldn’t use a computer. Just need a WiFi signal near them all and the app on your phone or tablet and you are good.
As far as I know yes. Still have the one I set up working. Haven’t tried the new firmware though. But the site still has the download and all so yeah I’d say it’s still all ok.
great video, I downloaded the firmware, but the cams are at work, will check it out this week. I currently use BlueStacks which works fine, but will RTSP allow me to view all my cams in a grid using some IP camera software?
To view between cameras, you’d need to have each url for it, so not very simple. To record you can use something like camtasia or cam studio. Also think IP camera view would work as well.
If you have multiple cameras, can you get the live feeds all on one screen like a security monitor at a bank that's broken into multiple small screens on the same screen?
I've got RTSP flashed on the v3, and it's streaming on VLC, so that's done. What I'm trying to do is have the cam events go to, and be recorded by VLC, so that I don't have to continually remove/reinstall the mSD card. I'm looking to set the camera to record the events to the card, which should result in 1min increments for as long as there is motion detected, being sent to and recorded on the computer, and footage perpetually written over on the mSD card. Is there a way to set up VLC to do that? Or is there a simpler way to achieve?
I guess I am pretty dumb here but do I need to hold down the button on the camera for 4 minutes or just til I see the light? still having problem either way. should the microsd card be formatted before I download to it?
So its a tricky process, but what I'd do first is put the sd card in, format it, then move the files to it. And you only have to hold the button down till the lights are that yellow/blue light. Then you can release it.
If you flash this firmware do you lose the ability to disable IR lights which has actually been a recent update? I want RTSP but my cams are behind glass and the IR light is not desired.
@@GrossTechnology The Option Yes but when I click the button it Says "You must update your Firmware to enable this Feature" I have not tried in a bit this is why i was asking, their firmware for RTSP seems to be Dated Before the Firmware that enabled Option to turn off LED"s. I will test this again, thanks.
@@GrossTechnology Okay I found VLC in the google store. My problem is my smartphone OS will not support the Wyze app. Do I then have to get a new device with OS version 9.0-10.0 and up?
So the PTZ would have to still be done through the app, and yes the app remains fully operational, just no new updates. As far as the VPN, you'd have to be able to get onto the same local network as the camera itself, but once you are on, I don't see why you couldn't.
No, that feed is live to the world and you can’t manipulate that address to be just a local IP address. You can connect it to a system to record to a HD but it will not be a closed link. So to answer your question, no it can’t be.
So I just answered my own question. I just got done doing this. I set up everything and generated my RTSP URL. (BTW, thank you very much for the video!) I powered down my phone and unplugged the camera. Then I unplugged my internet modem and kept my router plugged in. Sure enough, I didn’t have internet, as verified by my computer loosing internet connection but still had my LOCAL network intact. I then powered up my phone and Wyze camera that I just flashed. I started up VLC on my phone and input the RTSP URL into “stream”....IT WORKS! I was able to view my Wyze cam feed ONLY through my local network with no internet but it did lag a little. I can only conclude that username, password, and IP address are stored on the camera itself.
A good CCTV system would be ones by either Reolink or AvertX makes really amazing ones as well. A dash cam, not really sure haven’t had great success with the ones I’ve tried so can’t help ya there.
@@GrossTechnology Basically is want for car so if something wrong happens videos still saved on cloud for evidence and safety Any suggestion about it Thanks for quick response
Have you tested RTSP vs Bluestacks and the cloud app? Wondering about the pros/cons of each. I'm wondering if RTSP is better quality and works even when the internet goes down. So like if a burglar cuts your cable connection you could still record to a hidden drive and retrieve the data later.
Well you still have the ability to record to micro SD which is the only way any footage would be recorded. The RTSP still have to connect to the internet to view so now it wouldn’t work without the network.
It seems to be there - click on: support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031187371-Wyze-Cam-RTSPFeatures If the link doesn't work, log onto Wyze.com, go to support, select your camera, click on Wyze Cam Features, and then the last thing listed - Wyze Cam RTSP.
Thanks for this video. I just learned that this process does not work with MicroSD cards above 32GB. With my 64GB card the camera went into pairing mode instead of updating itself.
I use Bluestacks as well but I wasn't able to run the Wyze app there. Instead I use "TinyCam Free" and it works great. Seems to be an easier process too.
@@LAactor u sure we taking about the same product. My stuff is basically click n it's showing video that fast. N my phone is old n slow, cheap 100 dollar phone.
Am I mistaken here, but the wyze app let's me see real time camera views. I installed 4 cameras on my property did all the up dates including the one that reconizies people. I click on the wyze app and can choose any real time view. Is this RSTP?
No, that is the normal function. RTSP allows you to view them from other ways outside of the Wyze app, be it your computer, or another security system. That is what RTsP is mainly used for.
I followed all the steps and it didn't work. The VLC says connection failed. Tried doing a setup again to make sure the camera took the software but still nothing works. I'm trying to set it up through the office wi-fi so maybe the IT guy has something blocked?
Works great!! I am now able to stream from all 4 of my cameras. Thanks! So, my only question is, why does it stops streaming after like 15- 20 mins? Is there a way to make it continuous?
Sadly, no that is the limit they have setup. Kinda like how some things stop a video and ask you, "are you still watching" to make sure you are watching and didn't fall asleep I guess. Main reason is because the entire time you are streaming it, its using bandwidth on your network, and a lot of it too. So they set that limit to kinda give it a break or at least restart it to kinda refresh the stream.
@@GrossTechnology u Kno your wrong right all they need is a micro sd card boss. Then continuous playback will work jus so u Kno. I guess u didn't read the lil book that it came with
@@dmo848 I am not wrong, you just aren't understanding. Having a sd card allows continuous recording, not playback. Through the rtsp, like the person was asking, it will stop after 15-20 mins of streaming the live video feed. Has nothing to do with the sd card. Sorry, but you are not even talking about the same thing this person was asking about.
Hey Joshua, I deleted my first two comments because I have become smarter since I watched your video. I now have set up my driveway cam with the RTSP and it works great. A bit choppy but I figure that won't matter. I can live with it. I DO want to say THANKS for your great and very detailed video tutorial. I'm waaay old and sometimes it takes a bit for me to grasp what exactly I am doing. I was trying to view the cam via my browser only but after reading and watching the video again, I had to install the video player software. Now, all is good with the world. I am going to be installing one more of the V2 cams and also one of the PAN cams. Is there a way to have all 3 open at one time on a single monitor? If you can expand on that, I'd be most grateful and humbled by your brilliance. Thanks again.
Ray! Glad that you got it up and going! The only way to view more than one RTSP camera at a time is to have multiple windows open streaming each camera. Since you are viewing a specific camera, that would be the only way to use the RTSP to have all three open at the same time. You may find some software that is able to view multiple streams at the same time, that would work as well. But using VLC you'd have to open multiple windows.
@@GrossTechnology The other thing is that i put the new firmware change the name to demo.bin on it and then i hold down the setup button But it never turns blue at all.
Working on adding cameras to my Mac but ran into an issue on blue stack where it will only add one camera, and then duplicate the same camera over and over, will not load the others I have. What am I doing incorrectly here?
I've never added the cameras/ set them up with blue stacks. Have you tried to set them up using your phone, then once they are set up, use blue stacks? I only have used blue stacks for viewing what has already been set up. Could be an issue being on different networks, or just the fact that it is an emulator and not the real thing. But not really sure there.
The current "How to install the RTSP Firmware only shows 2 ".bin" files? I tried holding down the setup and plugging it in, the blue light appears and heard it shut off, but it still is saying "Ready To Connect"?
@@GrossTechnology I finally got rtsp installed on all three. The problem one had an error on the SD card. Did a format, added the bin file and then had to treat it like a new add-on. Thanks! All are working. Next is to view all three on one screen.
It would require multiple URLs. So unless you have a software that can take multiple RTSP feeds, you'll only be able to watch the one you are connected to.
Im completly a noob when it comes to cams.. the one i purchased was a NEOS smart cam ... i presumed it is exactly the same as Wyze as they look identical . is there a difference in product ?
@@GrossTechnology ahh thanks for the Explanation .. i just presumed becasue they are identical Wyze and Neos cam products were the same :) .. i wondered why while watching Tutorial Videos that the App Menu's and Features where not exactly the same hehe thanks again.
No, sadly it only will go through their app, no other way without the RTSP to connect to it, but even then it only see's the feed, not access to the SD card.
@@GrossTechnology Thank you! of all the youtubers on this thing your one to actually respond to questions! and as for the other, you would think for as advanced as we were that the idea to check both would of been a thought up idea :(
Ha, yeah you are welcome! Unfortunately RTSP was an afterthought and really not something they cared to do, so they made it a new firmware that won’t be updated or even really looked at by their team after they released it. Sad, but I think they were really thinking the MaxDrive was going to solve it and so they wouldn’t need to do RTSP. But that company fell through and they had to do something. But I agree, would’ve been a great ability to do as well.
i have a business network and many many cameras, all of them are set up with static IPs, when I tried to add 3 Pans and 2 v2 cameras on the network with static IPs and Firmware updated them to RTSP no camera was able to work at the same time as another thru Blue Iris... Just 1 camera at a time like they were all fighting over a port, was easier and cheaper to just replace them with Real IP cameras - mostly Refurbished Reolink cameras, like 2 for $60
Yeah in your situation, wyze wouldn’t be a good choice. But the RTSP will not work in a multi cam view no matter what. Only will work one cam at a time.
Will that one SD card file work on all my camera's and then put back in the SD card that I had in it prior to the demo.bin? OR does the camera have to have the demo.bin file in it at all times?
That is a great question, is the demo.bin file just to update the firmware and is then not needed. I'm not sure, but I will definitely be testing that out when I get home tonight. I'll let you know. Great question!
Alright so I tested this out tonight and you are totally correct! Once the firmware is installed, and the RTSP is enabled and all setup, you can remove the SD card and it will continue to work.

rtsp wont accept the username and password? says needs to be 4 to 10 characters. even if i put more than 4 still says the same thing, cant get past that part. the rest of the setup went without a problem. got the rtsp option on the camera advanced settings go to it turn it on and then when asked to create username and password. it doesnt take the user or pass, just keeps saying more than 4 characters even when there is more than 4. any suggestions?
Sadly no, never had that issue. I’d suggest first resetting the camera, and putting Wyze main firmware back on. Update it all and then download the newest wyze app update, and then reset it up with the most updated rtsp firmware and go from there.
If all else fails, contact Wyze, their support has been very helpful.
Thanks a lot. It worked and I am happy.
Glad it helped
Interesting video. Question: is it possible to use RTSP while in a motorhome using your phone as a hotspot? If so, is the setup the same?
It would be the same but that hotspot would have to be always active.
I it possible to watch multiple cameras on at the same time?
I tried to use bluestacks to view my cams before, but it was to much of a resource hog for my older laptop...i am hoping this works better....so thank you for sharing!!
Yeah and all the other junk that blue stacks uses I’m not a fan either.
If you have am extra phone you can do it pretty easily. Just download the app on that device and log in. Then simply screen share live on UA-cam . Just make the stream unlisted/private so only you can view. You can then access it from what ever device you wish. Just make sure the device you're streaming from is plugged into a power source.
How do you hold the setup button on a Pan Cam with the base and power cord rotating at start up? Thanks, Scott
But.... does NOT work with RTSP!!!
Correct.
Yeah, as long as it’s setup on WiFi with the app or with rtsp then you can take it offline and just record to the sd card to view later.
@@GrossTechnology THANK YOU!!!
Just curious. Must the viewer and camera be on the same local network? Can I watch the video on the internet?
No, the point of RTSP is that you'll be able to view the camera from anywhere with that specific link.
Do the RTSP streams work over wifi without internet access? I have limited upload bandwidth and am looking for a solution to view the wyze video streams locally without having to view a stream that is first uploaded to the cloud. Thanks
That’s a great question, I’ll have to find out and let you know.
I noticed with my last update RTSP is no longer there anymore.
Are you on that firmware? What firmware version are you on?
@@GrossTechnology 4.9.4.108 is the version I'm on. I just did an update about a week ago to the latest version where they added person detection and before I updated the app I had RTSP at the very bottom in the advanced setting but as soon as I updated it that went away.
How many cameras can this feature use at the same time?
Well you can install it on as many as you’d like, but if you mean viewing multiple ones, that would depend on what software you are using to view the stream. If VLC like in my video it is only one at a time. But there are some that can view multiple RTSP streams at once.
@@GrossTechnology WHat if you open Multiple instances of VLC? ( i have various versions)
Do you need an SD card for each camera, or can you download info from one and do each camera off the same card?
You can use the same card to flash each camera.
Check out my newer video about how to do this called, "Installing Firmware on Wyze Cam - Getting Rid of RTSP"
i went to wyze site and the RTSP download is not there now
I never got a solid blue on the cam it keeps going to yellow and she keeps saying ready to connect every time. I even went to the website as instructed still no results.
Same here....my hand isrampng
Worked great. Thanks dude!
You're welcome! Glad to help.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks
Can you move that file to an SD card you’re already using in the cam? And can u delete it after you get the function working in the app?
Does this still work? I got rtsp to show up but isn’t showing in VLC
No, it will only let you view them one by one, unless you find a viewer that can have multiple stream at once.
Is there an application on computer to record live streaming? How easy is it to view between different cameras?
To view between cameras, you’d need to have each url for it, so not very simple. To record you can use something like camtasia or cam studio. Also think IP camera view would work as well.
You can use software like blue iris or many other similar ones that work with RTSP.
VLC does recording, too.
OBS is a good application
If you have multiple cameras, can you get the live feeds all on one screen like a security monitor at a bank that's broken into multiple small screens on the same screen?
If you add all the cameras into a group you can view them all together through the app. But o lay through the app.
Unfortunately, I don’t believe VLC will be able to do that at all. You’ll need to have a dvr type of software that you can record it all on.
Nope that option to turn Night Vision IR lights on or off is still there.
Hello-Will this work on a Toshiba Chromebook? If so, do I follow the same outlined steps provided?
As long as you can install VLC on the Chromebook then yes it will.
@@GrossTechnology Okay I found VLC in the google store. My problem is my smartphone OS will not support the Wyze app. Do I then have to get a new device with OS version 9.0-10.0 and up?
Yeah, you’d have to have a mobile device that supports their app. Or download Bluestacks on your computer and install the Wyze app through it.
Thanks for sharing this. Super useful
You’re very welcome!
Thanks, made it so easy to understand.
Thats great to hear! Glad to help!
How about PTZ for Wyze on Windows? Will the Wyze app remain fully operational? Can the camera be accessed behind corporate firewall using VPN?
So the PTZ would have to still be done through the app, and yes the app remains fully operational, just no new updates. As far as the VPN, you'd have to be able to get onto the same local network as the camera itself, but once you are on, I don't see why you couldn't.
Thanks alot for this.
Where can I find the step by steps?
I appreciate it!
You are very welcome! If you go to my channel I do have a step by step video on there as well.
Can this rtsp feed then be used on a closed circuit LOCAL wifi network THAT IS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET, and saving everything on a hard drive?
No, that feed is live to the world and you can’t manipulate that address to be just a local IP address. You can connect it to a system to record to a HD but it will not be a closed link. So to answer your question, no it can’t be.
So I just answered my own question. I just got done doing this. I set up everything and generated my RTSP URL. (BTW, thank you very much for the video!)
I powered down my phone and unplugged the camera.
Subscribed can you suggest any in car dash cam, CCTV with cloud storage facility but not too expensive please
A good CCTV system would be ones by either Reolink or AvertX makes really amazing ones as well. A dash cam, not really sure haven’t had great success with the ones I’ve tried so can’t help ya there.
@@GrossTechnology
Basically is want for car so if something wrong happens videos still saved on cloud for evidence and safety
Any suggestion about it
Thanks for quick response
Oh you want a cloud connected car dash cam?
Have you tested RTSP vs Bluestacks and the cloud app? Wondering about the pros/cons of each. I'm wondering if RTSP is better quality and works even when the internet goes down. So like if a burglar cuts your cable connection you could still record to a hidden drive and retrieve the data later.
Well you still have the ability to record to micro SD which is the only way any footage would be recorded. The RTSP still have to connect to the internet to view so now it wouldn’t work without the network.
Great tutorial. Unfortunately WYZE removed the RTSP link on their web site. Where can I obtain the firmware at this juncture?
It seems to be there - click on: support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360031187371-Wyze-Cam-RTSPFeatures
If the link doesn't work, log onto Wyze.com, go to support, select your camera, click on Wyze Cam Features, and then the last thing listed - Wyze Cam RTSP.
No it is still there. support.wyzecam.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026245231-Wyze-Cam-RTSP
Thanks for this video. I just learned that this process does not work with MicroSD cards above 32GB. With my 64GB card the camera went into pairing mode instead of updating itself.
I did mine with a 64gb card. Didn’t have an issue.
I'm seeing the same thing. Looking for a smaller MicroSD card now to see if that makes a difference.
Reformatting the 64GB MicroSD card fixed my issue.
Might not be a complete solution, but I use Bluestacks, which is a free Android emulator, and then run the Wyze Cam app in it on my desktop.
Rocky Vachon - "Bluestacks" ~ hmmm It's on computer that was lent to me. Never knew what it was. COOL! Thanks! I'll check it out!
I use Bluestacks as well but I wasn't able to run the Wyze app there. Instead I use "TinyCam Free" and it works great. Seems to be an easier process too.

Not sure why you need PowerISO, it’s not needed at all to install RTSP.
How do you make the shortcut the one click short cut on your desktop?
Through VLC?
Is the camera and your computer on the same network?
Gross. You're the BEST! You just to me as new subscriber!
Why thank you!! Appreciate you!
Sorry, but you are not even talking about the same thing this person was asking about.

@@yveswalls1417 In what part is it just circling? The installation of the firmware or the update or when you turn RTSP on?
Hello do you need that wyze camera pre setup before you can do this?
That’s a good question, not 💯 sure but I would assume no.
