I read Man and Wife because of your recommendation. I was not disappointed at all and I wholeheartedly agree that the main male character is malevolence personified!!! My absolute favorite Wilkie Collins so far!
I do love the vintage Collins editions covers. I have not read any Wilkie Collins books, but this makes me want to look in to some. Man and Wife sounds very impactful.
Just got Man and Wife for Kindle. I love Wilkie Collins! I read The Moonstone for school as a teen and reread about ten years ago. I recently read The Woman in White and now want to read more. Thank you for a great video.
I'm reading The Woman in White for the second time and I love it. It was one of the first novels I ever read and the first Wilkie Collins book I ever read. Shortly after that I read The Moonstone and I also loved it, and probably will reade it again. I remember liking The Woman in White a bit better, but I would have to read The Moonstone again to really make up my mind, since it was more than 20 years ago. They remain the only Wilkie Collins books I've read.
I've tried to read The Moonstone and thought it was incredibly boring. Maybe I need to watch the adaptation first. I can't wait to read The Law and the Lady as well as Man and Wife. If they are as suspenseful as The Woman in White I know I will love them. And I agree - Marian Halcombe is one of the best of all Victorian characters!
Another fun Victober video🧡 you introduced me to Gaskell and now Wilkie Collins! I am a little over half way through Man and Wife and loving it so so much! Thank you thank you thank you☺️
My thing is the length of his books. That stops me. Holding a huge book in my hands is very tiring and my hands get sore. I do not read read books on a screen. I cannot see it and I cannot turn pages. I may try his books on audio,
This was really helpful Kate as after reading his two most well known novels, I’d been wondering where to go next with Collins. I had a quick look at Jennifer and Katie’s rankings as two other lovers of Wilkie Collins and of the books you’ve read the same it’s really interesting how on some books you all agree (No Name) and others you all have such varying opinions, however, Man and Wife is at the top of yours and Jennifer’s list and I’m pretty sure Katie is enjoying it right now so I think that’s the one I’ll go for next!
What a lovely video. Thank you 😊 I would love to hear your thoughts on the Count of Monte-Christo you have read it. Not a Victorian novel, but it has quite a revenge plot in a way.
I just finished Poor Miss Finch and I also came away just feeling like it was weird! and the entire book could have been solved by having an actual conversation, lol. The Dead Secret is one I really should revisit. great video, Kate!
Can't wait for our discussion of the first half of Man and Wife on Sat! I'm having a "so so" time with it... some parts I love and some are "why is this in here?"😅 I feel like I'm riding a wave with this book.
Haha oh poooooor Miss Finch. Honestly, while I enjoyed it when I read it, I cannot remember anything about it! I don't know if that says more about the book or myself.
Don't be afraid to re read "The Woman in White". I have read it three times and though you know what is going to happen.....I don't know....the way it's written.....I was still on edge and turning pages late into the night. Also, the characters are so amazing.....like Count Fosco!!....that you just get so into it. I think it is good to leave a few years in between reads though.
My favorite Wilkie Collins is The Woman in White. My 2nd favorite is The Moonstone.

I love your rankings, Kate!! I loved The Woman in White, but now I have new ones to add to my TBR! Thank you! 🤩🌟💕
Thank you, Gina! I hope you enjoy some more Wilkie Collins!
I'm reading The Woman in White right now. Love it.

Hi Kate! I loved The Moonstone, LOVED The Woman in White, and now want to get Man and Wife (I totally trust your judgment!). 🥰

I really like Collins so I will ask for Man and Wife for Christmas. 😀
I hope you get it!
What a lovely video. Thank you 😊

Sadly that's one of the revenge plot novels I didn't enjoy🙈

Right?! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on it!

Ahhhh It's absolutely amazing! I definitely think Man and Wife would give you a similar experience.
Haha oh poooooor Miss Finch. Honestly, while I enjoyed it when I read it, I cannot remember anything about it! I don't know if that says more about the book or myself.
Can confirm The Woman in White holds up on reread. 😂 Yes Man and Wife!!! 🎉
This is awesome to hear about The Woman in White!

I think you should give Armadale another try haha 😂
Ooof I rejoiced when I was done with that book and it's such a chunker.
Collins is a Victorian author I have rather neglected. I only read a couple and many years ago. I should have another go though.
