The Test is a lovely river and a privilege to fish. It shows the quality of the fishing that my best dace, roach, grayling, brown trout and sea trout all came from the Test.
Almost made me emotional seeing someone discover the joys of trotting AND grayling!! I was lucky enough to grow up fishing good grayling rivers, something I almost took for granted, now I live elsewhere and the realisation has struck!
Can’t believe I’ve left it so long. Definitely will be a key part of my winter fishing from now on. A lovely way to fish. Are there other species that you could trot for?
What a philistine not using a pin its sacrilege!!! Seriously using one for trotting is far superior to a fixed spool reel. I have not used one a great deal but once i did I thought it was easier far mor control over the float and the best things are not having to piddle about with the bail arm or worring about the spool being fully loaded. Looks a cracking stretch and a stunning grayling at the end.
One thing I miss about England is the chalkstreams. The wey, test, Shroom, Itchen. Those rivers are heavenly beautiful. I live in Hungary now and though has some nice rivers and lakes nothing compares to an English chalkstream
hey man theres a brilliant place where i caught a 3lb grayling in the river itchen on the itchen navigatio in bishopstoke eastleigh but u need to be apart of eadac to fish there man but i highly reccomend it
You won’t regret it. I just think its nice to mix things up a bit. But year, simple float tactics does take me back to my schoolboy fishing!!! Thanks for watching 👏👏👏
I laughed out loud when u said I " I took the centre pin off " . You could almost hear all the purists screaming out "heresy"! I had one once and I was super shite at using it. Would love to try one again and get proficient at it. They r supposed to be super rewarding once you have mastered them. Great video and beautiful fish, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jason. Not my area of expertise as you can tell! But actually loved it and will definitely be doing a bit more before the season ends. Thanks for checking it out! 👍👍👍
Great video nick really enjoyable it really is an artform to trot a float really well wot a grayling that was to end the session well done cheers tightlines
Very enjoyable video, trotting for grayling is one of my favourite forms of fishing, haven't done it yet this season but I will be on it on the river Frome v.soon with the centre pin.congrats on ur first quality grayling, well done👍
@@Lifeonthebank I have watched all your videos now, I love your style of doing it. Great work man, top stuff. Went trotting for grayling today myself, no joys though haha
Hiya nick happy new year mate. Iv never tried trotting on a river before but its definitely on the cards for this year. Quick question mate. Where do you get your ned rig hooks from? because i cannot find a pack of them to save my life.
To me, the purest form of angling is trotting for grayling! That sums up proper English wild fishing! I'd rather trot a swim for a 3lb grayling than catch a big carp! Anyday a week! That and long-trottjng for big roach!👌
Can’t argue with that at all. Shame that travel restrictions might stop me doing this again before the end of the season. I love the finesse required when angling for these beautiful fish 👌
Well done, cracking fish that big grayling, I find that if you go out and do what you did, fish for a new species by a method you are not used to, it automatically takes you back to your early memories of fishing, and that intense excitement when you catch what you are looking for. Great video, some nice trout in there too, not to be overlooked either. Hope you great Christmas and a very happy and healthy 2021. Cheers
Thanks mate. Definitely give it a go. Great way of fishing. Helps you practice your finesse. They’re quite a tricky, delicate fish. Let me know how you get on! 👍
Well done Nick awesome fish! Grayling are abit of a bogey species for me, targeted them a few times and only caught a handful. Sure I'll try to put that right soon!
I’m sure you will put that right mate. Took me a few goes to get a result. Look forward to seeing you catch some before the end of the season maybe? Travel restrictions will stop me fishing for them, unless they’re lifted 😞
Another absolutely belting vlog and session buddy, that grayling was a superb fish. Without a shadow of a doubt you are a superb all round angler, couple that with great presenting and editing of your vlogs makes your channel one of the best on you tube in my opinion. Hats off to ya and thankyou for the superb videos you make, they are always an outstanding watch. Hope you have a great week and Best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family buddy, also hope you have an awesome Xmas and New year. And ultimately tight lines too 🎣
You really are so very kind 🙏 So pleased that you enjoy the channel. I’ve very much enjoyed putting the videos together this year. Hope you have an amazing Christmas and I look forward to sharing more angling adventures with you next year!!! 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks mate. You’re heart is in your mouth, but not because the fight is particularly fierce but because they’re quite delicate and can drop off! You know when it’s a big one and you’re preying it stays on all the way to the net!!! 👍
There's grayling in the aire... youbthink you could catch them on spinners? I'm guessing it's finding the right spots.. and of course that little fish counts 🤣
I always get a bit disappointed when I catch a grayling As I’m only after wild browns. These days I only dry fly for them as I found it far too easy trotting worm or maggot.
belting grayling is that...my best is about 1 half pound just over up in yorkshire but such a great way of fishing ..im no expert at it but getting better...great fish great vid as usual

Which Yorkshire rivers are you fishing? There's plenty in the Wharfe, love going after them this time of year.
@@nickmunton6293 Swale and Ure plus some of their feeder streams
Nice, there's a guy on one of the local FB pages that fishes the swale a bit. Catches a lot of decent chub. Used to fish Skipto On Swale years ago.
