- George Reeves at Palisades Park ( Sept. 8, 1956). This video was sent to me several years ago by the person whose father shot the 8mm film. It is very brief. It shows George on stage as both Clark Kent and Superman and just a quick shot of George and presumably Art Weissman walking to the car. I repeat the footage and also freeze frame a couple shots for a better look.
GEORGE REEVES WAS THE BEST SUPERMAN OUT OF ALL FORMERS AND CURRENTS !! HE WAS AN EXCELLENT ACTOR WHO NEVER THOUGHT THE SUPERMAN TV SHOW WOULD B A HIT , LITTLE DID HE KNOW HE'S NOW AN ICON AND SO LOVED BY MANY FANS AROUND THE GLOBE !! HIS PERFORMANCE IN GONE WITH THE WIND HOLDS UP AGAINST ALL ACTORS IN THAT FILM , HAD HE LIVED WHO KNOWS HOW MUCH MORE HE MAY HAVE ACCOMPLISHED .
Yup u r right on the money he was the greatest
yes i love george reeves as superman
He would have done 26 more episodes of Stupid man 👨
That's 4 sure !!!!
HE would most likely would have been a tv director
@@tomflendodo7297 Seriously..you sound illiterate.
In the early sixties I recollect a frequent ad in DC comics of Superman holding a miniature roller coaster and saying "Be my guest at Palasades Park."
I was there that day with my sister. Spoke with Superman and got a nice photograph.
+Thomas Mann I'd like to know more. How old were you? Would you mind writing to me at my e-mail address: JAMESNOLT@GMAIL.COM
+Thomas Mann That must have been a huge thrill ....I wonder if there are any children that were in the Superman Series that have come forward and talked about their experience being in a show with Reeves
+fr6313 I have spoken with Isa Ashdown ("The Birthday Letter"), Janine Perreau ("Joey"), and am friends with Greg Moffett ("The Stolen Elephant"). I'm also friends with Bob Shayne's daughter, Stephanie. Although she was never in an episode, she was on the set. John Hamilton's son is also a friend of mine. I would so like to speak with Judy Nugent ("Around The World With Superman"), but she prefers her privacy.
very cool indeed
He was the Best Superman. Love that someone shared this video.
Very creepy music somehow appropriate for the grainy film. Kent looks like he’s being Shanghai’d into a mob car. Later, The Man of Steel sings.
Thank you so much for this.
Always a treat when someone shares something so cool ,photos or 8mm film Thanks for posting this it was a joy to see
Thanks so much Logansrun. Your comments are appreciated.
Oh George wish you were still here!
Thank you for sharing this with all of us. Very cool, I just wish of course. It was much closer & had sound. R.I.P. George
So rare! This is great. My late husband (also George) met Superman at Hess's Department Store in Allentown Pa...age 8 1955.He was teary eyed whenever he spoke of it. Hess's was so great. everyone showed up there. They had a special on PBS locally here in Philly and I'm pretty sure they showed George Reeves appearing there.
Thanks again Jim!
I live in Pennsylvania, but didn't know about the Hess visit at the time nor the visit to the Reading Fair two years later. How I wish I could have met him. I can understand your George tearing up. If you can check my Facebook page from 2/25/24, you see a video of someone else who met George Reeves. Vince was rather awed by the experience as well.
Enjoyed reading the lovely story that goes with it.
George Reeves brought joy to so many children. A great man.
Thank you !!!!! So eeery. The music was soooo wonderful from this show...to me, better even than MOS. Seeing GR onstage as Superman is so spookey !!! jhp
Rest in peace George and Palisades Park.
Even Lenore Lemmon said that he never regretted that he played Superman in a 1989 interview you can read on Google. Unfortunately the video of the interview got deleted.
Wow! Thanks for sharing this.
Rest in peace, George.
Wonderfully simpler times.
Dc comics, for many years advertised this park, with special discount coupons in their comics. Have one with it clipped out, so some in the area did use them.
I'm sure many did. I missed seeing George Reeves in 1957 when he appeared at the Reading (PA) Fair. Clayton Moore the one night, George Reeves the next. What a week that would have been. But I was only 11 and didn't know about it. (Sigh)
I remember those ADS for Palisades Park
There was a rock song about that Park early 1960's ...
I'm getting nostalgia
I remember the comic books always show Superman hawking coupons for Palisades Park. I was a little kid in West Virginia and I was always thinking "Where the heck is Palisades Park?"
I was/am in Pennsylvania. Never got there either.
After almost 62 years we still don’t have a definitive answer as to what really happened to George Reeves that fateful evening. All the speculation and morbid hypothesizing will not and cannot bring him back. More important, however, is the indelible impression he left as an actor on millions of television viewers and as a humanitarian, especially towards children and the handicapped. I met Noel Neill several years ago (a wonderfully warm lady) and through this meeting felt as if I had “channelled” a meeting with George himself. I’m over 60 years old and still thrill to these adventures and can only thank George, Noel, Jack, John, Bob (Shayne) and Phyllis for all the happiness they’ve given their fans over a lifetime. As for the music, I think the many memorable cues that were part of Season Two can finally be traced to a British light film composer named Jack Beaver. Check out his “World of Tomorrow” and “Sword of Damocles.” You’ll know what I mean. Thank you, Jim, for the video, and the creepy music from the color episodes. LOL!
Thanks for your thoughtful comments, Alan. George Reeves inspired me... still inspires me to be a better person. I have virtually all of the second season and color years audio clips. I especially enjoy the second season music.
@@jimnolt-TAC Thanks for getting back to me, Jim. We last corresponded maybe 15 years ago when I happened upon your wonderful website and through it discovered a whole world of individuals who were continuously entertained and inspired by George’s wonderful work, both on and off the screen. You probably won’t remember but I asked you questions about Myra McKinney, who, as Madame Selena, was my all-time favorite baddie, followed by Leonard Mudie as Brockhurst. And the second season music...all evocatively majestic and memorable. Again, Jim, thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do on behalf of George Reeves and “TAC.”
Of course I agree with you 100%, Martin. And I hope you also saw my personal tribute to George.
Absolutely fantastic I was devastated when they said he was dead
The music, slow motion, and, repeated scenes create a very creepy video.
Perhaps, but that was not my intention. I repeated because the clip is very short, and the music is from the Superman series color years.
Great post. Just.....Super
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. George must have made dozens if not hundreds of appearances... only wish I could find more film like this.
If he did commit suicide it wasn’t because of Superman. It was because of Hollywood. They treated him so unfairly and made his life very difficult. The guy lived to act and perform and loved it and because he was so loved because he played Superman they wouldn’t cast him in anything else because he was so loved for playing Superman. It’s so sad and unfair what they did to him
Great music
Hi Jim THANKS SO MUCH!!! for this video whether we our self have seen it before or not can't recall, or something similar too it. Just curious to ask 2 questions, and whether you know of the video we're talking of but we our self have seen a video have seen a video, on UA-cam in the past where both George Reeves and the other cast of Superman are at the airport, and meeting kids, and George carries and picks up two kids, is there any chance you'd be able to locate it, if you're not able to no pressure, also the superman float which has George waving and the little Superboy and little Supergirl at the bottom, do know that there were photos but do you know if there were any video reels of it that exist of. Once again THANKS SO MUCH!!!! for this video
I posted that video some time ago. You can see it here: ua-cam.com/video/Kr7NitB9lWA/v-deo.html
@@jimnolt-TAC thanks so much Jim 😊👍
The background music sounds like the background music of tbe color episodes of Superman (1954-1957).
There's a good reason for that. that music is among the music cues from the color seasons. 😀 Like most fans, I like the music from b&w seasons better, but I thought it fit here quite well.
I'd like to know where you got that background music from for The Adventures Of Superman?
Send me e-mail at JAMESNOLT@gmail.com
His Spirit still haunts his last residence, it is earthbound. It would seem it was NOT re-born. Hopefully his Soul was SAVED!
Ricky, I've been in the house a couple of times and know the owner. It is terribly sad that George left this world at a relatively young age, but rest assured in the knowledge that the house is not haunted.
@@jimnolt-TAC Did U get the video I sent you?
I understand that Reeves rarely wore his Superman costume in public out of fear that some nut might shoot him to see if bullets really bounced off him.
If George Reeves needed to be in costume, he preferred to be on a stage, away from the crowd. Otherwise, he was more comfortable if he appeared as Clark Kent.
Amazing what you can do by looping the same 10 seconds of footage over and over.
What the heck is with that background music? That’s not the theme jingle to Palisades Amusement Park.
I am surprised that Palisades Park was in existence in1956.
I had to look it up, but Wiki says the park operated from 1898 to 1971.
@@jimnolt-TAC 1898? Really?
Nice music choice
Why thank you, Charles.
Giorge😢😢😢
was he singing ??
We're not seeing or hearing anything but spooky music.
There is nothing more to hear. As stated in the description, this video was shot on 8mm film. Because there is no audio, I added the music. As for the video, you should see George on stage and then walking to the car.
Where did this music cue come from??
I have most of the music cues from Superman.
I think I've heard that from the TV Superman episodes as background music.
Too bad you didn't have a few chords of Freddy Canon singing his smash hit "Palisades Park" :)
Or the Palisades jingle encouraging folks to, "Come on over!"
@@8avexp Palisades has the rides, palisades has the fun, come on over. Shows and dancing are free, so’s the parking so gee, come on over. Palisades from coast to coast, where a dime buys the most. Palisades amusement park, swings all day and after dark.Ride the coaster get cool in the waves in the pool. You’ll have fun so come on over.
@@thomasfreeman7770 Yep, that's the one!
@@8avexp thought you might enjoy the lyrics if you forgot or did not know them. I grew up just a few miles from there and went there plenty of times as a kid. The jingle was played mostly on two NYC radio stations. WABC and WMCA.
@@thomasfreeman7770 I lived in northern NJ for six years and used to hear that jingle all the time.
I LOVED SUPERMAN IN THIS INCARNATION OF GEORGE REEVES HE HAD NO EQUAL.
No wonder he was type cast
Did he get paid for this?
Yes, surely.
I always loved watching Superman but the one thing that doesn't make sense Clark Kent wood Dart into to the cloakroom come out as Superman and jump out the window fly a hundred miles somewhere else and then come out with his Clark Kent clothes on again
The television series never addressed that, but the comic book explained that his CK clothes were made of special material that could be compressed and stored in a small pouch in Superman's cape. But sometimes you need to forget those kinds of things and simply enjoy.
What is up with the horrible sad music?.
Granted, the music from the color years isn't my favorite, but that is music from the Superman TV series.
