  • Removing the Lucas K2F Magneto and doing a simple bench test to see if it produces a spark...
Apologies for the electro-magnetic interference with the microphone. Even after moving it, there was still some feedback. But the results are as good as I could hope for.

Should the mag be spinning clockwise from the drive end?

Thanks Alan, you are quite right. I didn’t realize at the time that I was turning it clockwise to its normal counter/anti-rotation direction. Hopefully no serious damage was done and I will definitely be testing it again correctly before it goes back on the bike. Cheers, Mike

Thanks again . Question has there been already a tutorial setting the ignition on such a type of Magneto. I have a 58 domi 99 with Magneto ignition . It would be very helpfull and appreciated if you can show this once in the future. F/R from the Netherlands.

Hi, sorry but I don't have a video on setting the ignition timing on the Norton, here's a link to a video of timing my Vincent. The concept is the same and the little magneto synchronizer timing device was invaluable. There's a link to the one I used in the description of the video. ua-cam.com/video/Av3qkAGalB0/v-deo.html Good luck with your project! I will need to do this again in the future on my Norton Manxman

hey mate thanks for the video by chance know what the size the thread is on the end of the tapered shaft I assumed it was bsf but can't seem to get a match, the thread on both the shaft and the fixing / jack bolt is ok but being an engineer it's just bugging me that I don't know the thread size and pitch also being a young man dealing mainly in metric and some imperial leaves me at a slight disadvantage any helps appreciated keep up the good work

Hey Mike!!!! Hows it going? Not seen too much since the cul-de-sac days. Just wanted tk know if this magneto will work on a 1966 t120r unit triumph?? Thanks bud. Hope all is well.

Hi, it's great to hear from you. Hope all is well. I'm not sure if a Lucas K2F mag would fit as a 66 Bonneville would have had an alternator fitted. You would most likely need some kind of timing cover attachment, similar to the ARD or Joe Hunt magneto setup with the mag hanging off the timing cover. I've just released a few new visits from the cul-de-sac this year and a few more to follow if you get a chance to see them. Cheers, Mike

although it will spark with a drill it needs to show a good spark when turned by hand When you kick it over the mag turns very slowly in my experience most mags that have been sitting for a long time need a new condenser at the very least they will spark for a while then fail the drill test can be misleading

Not really a good idea to spin a mag up like that i.e. backwards.
