More people died in the F-86 Sabre than the F-104 Starfighter. And most of the 104's deaths were because of inexperienced pilots from W. Germany flying a plane built for Korean War veterans. Watch that video by the guy that made a video on Assault Horizon.
My mom's dad flew and Vietnam and my great grandfather was ground crew in WW2 for the US NAVY, I grew up around planes my entire life, still to this day just being a passenger makes me smile, but I will get myself in the pilot seat some day.
All this story with this F-104 being rebuilt from wrecks of past wars and soaring through the skies again is an allegory of the Ace Combat series being resurected after assault horizon (her dead father represents the missing generation of games) .

Right, man. My first game of Ace Combat series is Skies of Deception. I love this so much, and i remember how i burned my ass after Fenrir's fight, because i play on casual flight. But after days now i can flight in Expert. I play in many of Ace Combat games (Assault Horizon, Air Combat, Ace Combat 2, Ace Combat 7:Skies Unknown). My last completed Ace Combat game is Joint Assault.
Late of two years, but better late than never. The F-15 mistook the Starfighter for a drone. Their shapes are similar. From a distance, and since it was the first time the OADF was facing these drones, it was easy to confuse them with Avril's plane.
I freaking love Ace Combat's campy anime stories. The writer inside me is saying they are making so many mistakes here but the Ace Combat fan inside keeps telling me I'm home.
Yeah it's kinda easy to get out of though; I bet word got around that they were restoring a heritage fighter, especially when they got to flight tests. There are a few old jets that do the airshow circuit locally. Could be a little awkward if you get caught up in an air battle though, maybe accusations of trying to record the drone's performance to send back to Erusia?
Either that or she probably violated about a dozen Osean aviation regulations like operating an aircraft without proper registration, or filing a flightplan with air traffic controllers. That is, assuming Osea has an institution similar to the FAA. I'm sure it's a safe bet. I do think it's kinda bullshit the fighter fired on her without warning or attempting any kind of contact though.
I have never been more excited for a game in my life. I played ace combat 0 4 and 5 when I was just a kid. I got them for Christmas and I haven’t played an ace combat game since. Now that I’m older I realize I didn’t appreciate the story as much as I do now but I remember feeling like a hero and hoping the game would never end. I took the 18 off so I have 3 days to play a game that shaped my childhood. See you aces in the air.
This took me back to Christmas '01 when I first got Ace Combat 04 from my grandparents. Been in love with the series ever since. The line about the grandfather and his war buddies really hit home for me.... 2:50-2:55

Remember, the Oseans were total dicks against Belka, tricking them into selling their own territory, taking half of Belka's territory after the end of the war, and was basically the reason the war even happened in the first place. To add that, they've been involved in some fuckery with the Useans in 1998 when they wanted to make a pact with the Southern Useans, and when a superpower wants to make deals with you, you bet your keister there's going to be a hidden agenda. So, long story short, never ever trust Oseans, or at least the politicians

30 G definitely not ok for a human xD _The Japanese version is a lot better. Lots of the English lines are lost in translation. Avril says “(the drone) gets to pull as many Gs as it likes (Gを掛け放題).”_
This is what I am concerned with; those who play the game in Japanese and those who play the game in English might have different understandings of some details due to the translation. Maybe not that bad that it affects their understanding of the story, but still.
Most likely they had tried to radio contact but that radio on the F-104 didn't work or Abril didn't tune it to the right frecuency to hear the fighters. Civilian aircraft as well have no need for IFF (Indicator Friend or Foe) Take in mind they were tailing an Erusean drone, the pilot most likely saw the F-104 and the drone and thought "Maybe this aircraft is controlling that drone?" and went to shoot it down with its guns. Even then, the shoot first-ask questions later would've brought the pilot IRL a SEVERE sanction and forbidden to fly, its bs that Avril got arrested and jailed for flying her plane though... she didn't know better what was happening on the ground.
I'm so happy to see this franchise alive and kicking. It feels like a game from a parallel reality (not talking about strangereal) where recent videogame trends didn't affect the majority of the products. Well done and I'm so happy it comes to PC
WOW! I remember this game from the beginning. The first time I played Ace Combat felt like a game ahead of its time and the game play put you in the immersive seat at all times.
"Gramps was really good friends with the super there, so he got to take whatever he wanted, no questions asked" Now that is subtle line, but what it really means literally changes the fate of Trigger. Every character was instrumental in the making of the hero that is Trigger, even Avril's dead Gramps.
Thinking on it, maybe it's just the surrounding dialogue and visuals obfuscating what she means. The lines before and after that are talking about speed and... maybe forward acceleration. The visual itself doesn't show the plane doing much besides moving forward through the sky. There's some rolling and pitching, but certainly nothing that would seem to generate 30 g's. The line of dialogue itself, though, implies sharp movements, hectic maneuvers that put high g's of momentary load on a person. Such loads are survivable. Famous crash test dummy John Stapp survived a (test) crash with a maximum g-load of 46 g's. An instant when his body "weighed" 7000 pounds. Just 5 g's, on the other hand, can cause you to black out if it persists for even just a matter of seconds. So I think she must have seen the plane and/or drone do something crazy off-screen beforehand, but whoever directed/edited the video just dropped the ball a bit. Maybe. I dunno. It could also be a mistranslation. That wouldn't surprise me.
That beginning when she was looking up with her had to the sky was straight up from Macross Plus when Isamu was looking up the same way, even the music was basically the same.

When I was at the Naval Air Test Center we heard of a civilian who got an airframe of a Lockheed F104 and was going to break the civilian speed record and he got hold of a J79 engine and broke the record. An Admiral asked him where he got the J79 and the guy said he bought it from a Navy Chief and Admiral said Chief's don't sell engines. The chief had got a J79 in the can, marked it BCM 9(salvage) and sold it for 100,000 dollars. He is spending his retirement in another type of federal installation. We had a chief selling new auto engines which was supposed to go in the yellow gear. Interesting times in the brown shoe navy.
I love how all of us Ace Combat fans like to make connections to past games and characters, and although it would be cool remember that Chopper's last name was Davenport, and Avril's last name is Mead, so there is no relation, I mean Osea had probably dozens of pilots in the last war (even though they just needed 4 to win the war :P)

This is what I am concerned with; those who play the game in Japanese and those who play the game in English might have different understandings of some details due to the translation. Maybe not that bad that it affects their understanding of the story, but still.

My only question:
why did the Osea pilots see an old F-104 that was unmarked and clearly not hostile think "Ah yes, target Practice."
Most likely they had tried to radio contact but that radio on the F-104 didn't work or Abril didn't tune it to the right frecuency to hear the fighters. Civilian aircraft as well have no need for IFF (Indicator Friend or Foe)
Take in mind they were tailing an Erusean drone, the pilot most likely saw the F-104 and the drone and thought "Maybe this aircraft is controlling that drone?" and went to shoot it down with its guns.
Even then, the shoot first-ask questions later would've brought the pilot IRL a SEVERE sanction and forbidden to fly, its bs that Avril got arrested and jailed for flying her plane though... she didn't know better what was happening on the ground.
I'm so happy to see this franchise alive and kicking. It feels like a game from a parallel reality (not talking about strangereal) where recent videogame trends didn't affect the majority of the products. Well done and I'm so happy it comes to PC

WOW! I remember this game from the beginning. The first time I played Ace Combat felt like a game ahead of its time and the game play put you in the immersive seat at all times.

Now that is subtle line, but what it really means literally changes the fate of Trigger. Every character was instrumental in the making of the hero that is Trigger, even Avril's dead Gramps.

Osea probably used genetically modified superhuman pilots, but then the F15 still couldnt handle those Gs without destroying itself
Thinking on it, maybe it's just the surrounding dialogue and visuals obfuscating what she means. The lines before and after that are talking about speed and... maybe forward acceleration. The visual itself doesn't show the plane doing much besides moving forward through the sky. There's some rolling and pitching, but certainly nothing that would seem to generate 30 g's. The line of dialogue itself, though, implies sharp movements, hectic maneuvers that put high g's of momentary load on a person. Such loads are survivable. Famous crash test dummy John Stapp survived a (test) crash with a maximum g-load of 46 g's. An instant when his body "weighed" 7000 pounds. Just 5 g's, on the other hand, can cause you to black out if it persists for even just a matter of seconds.
So I think she must have seen the plane and/or drone do something crazy off-screen beforehand, but whoever directed/edited the video just dropped the ball a bit.

I think it was lost in translation and she meant that the drone was doing 30Gs and that the Eagle pilot was going all out in trying to catch it.

When I was at the Naval Air Test Center we heard of a civilian who got an airframe of a Lockheed F104 and was going to break the civilian speed record and he got hold of a J79 engine and broke the record. An Admiral asked him where he got the J79 and the guy said he bought it from a Navy Chief and Admiral said Chief's don't sell engines. The chief had got a J79 in the can, marked it BCM 9(salvage) and sold it for 100,000 dollars. He is spending his retirement in another type of federal installation. We had a chief selling new auto engines which was supposed to go in the yellow gear. Interesting times in the brown shoe navy.

I love how all of us Ace Combat fans like to make connections to past games and characters, and although it would be cool remember that Chopper's last name was Davenport, and Avril's last name is Mead, so there is no relation, I mean Osea had probably dozens of pilots in the last war (even though they just needed 4 to win the war :P)
We were never told Chopper was married, she could have been the result of a sweetheart and Grandpa chose to raise her.
