i think i heard this video in Rhythmic Injections new song "belling songing (for edwin)". i think it samples audio from this video, and they mean no disrespect. i think you should let edwin know so he can take a listen to it for himself

That mechanism is so much simpler than a full carillon, and it even has the nomenclature posted :)

Lovely old clock. Shame they went to automatic winding. The bells could use a good cleaning, and it sounds like the strikers need an adjustment. Some closer shots of the mechanism would be nice.

At least it isn't fully electric
It is a small Shame it has been converted to electric wind up, but at least the entire clock isn't powered by electric.

what would happen if you turn hanfd back wards on this clock i do that with mantle clocks 1 time a year

I assume your Mantle clock has no chime? If it doesn't then you can wind it back but if it does you will end up with the chime out of sync with the shown time.

Building needs maintenance to preserve the heritage of history. Such master pieces of clocks can't be reproduced.

The weighted arm at the front is part of a maintaining system, sometimes known as a 'bolt and shutter', which keeps the clock running while it is being wound. The arm is designed to prevent the winding handle from being attached unless it is raised, and the action of raising it both 'winds' and activates the maintaining mechanism - so however forgetful is the person doing the winding, the clock will keep the time.
Also losing 5 minutes per week! There's obviously something wrong, it needs adjustment and repair by a qualified clock-maker.

Douglas - it's at the bottom of Finch Road, just below Crellin's Hill. - Very close to Strand Street and the car park, so a good place to visit when on a run to the street! :)

Perhaps an enthusiastic group of young healthy individuals with motivations of history or religion could be assembled to wind these tower clocks. Give them an order to belong to and maybe a certificate for their efforts. It would be an honour to wind such a clock and a form of physical fitness exercise that does useful work.
My guess is insurance concerns would prevent that from happening.
