How Florida’s abortion ban is leaving one family in agony

- Despite their baby’s fatal fetal abnormality, the Dorbert family was denied the possibility of terminating their pregnancy early.
Florida’s H.B. 5 - Reducing Fetal and Infant Mortality - went into effect last July, soon after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a half-century constitutional right to abortion.
The new law bans abortion after 15 weeks with a couple of exceptions, including one that permits a later termination if “two physicians certify in writing that, in reasonable medical judgment, the fetus has a fatal fetal abnormality” and has not reached viability.
It is not clear how the Dorberts’ doctors applied the law in this situation. Their baby has a condition long considered lethal that is now the subject of clinical trials to assess a potential treatment.

Will these pro-life groups and the government pay for counseling these parents need to deal with the trauma? Are they willing to continue paying for counseling once the child is born and immediately dies (or is stillborn)? Are they willing to pay for the baby's medical costs until it does? What about the funeral this couple now has to plan and pay for?
Doubtful. They're pro-birth, not pro-life. Once the baby is born, the parents are on their own.

Why are you worried about having a stillbirth? The baby dies either way! You still give birth to a dead baby. From what I could gather, there aren't even any funerals for aborted babies, no respect.
The difference is quick healing. Now she has to carry that child every day. This is prolonging their agony.
The question should be, why not to abort the child now, since it's not going to live anyway?

@@puclopuclik4108 If it's not OK to "humanely" k!ll a born child that will eventually die within days to months it's not OK to k!Ll an unborn child. Ultrasounds have been wrong before and healthier than expected babies born.
This is sick, inhumane, and cruel. This is what happens when politicians play doctor. And every person this happens to is another future vote against them. Probably more if you consider their friends and family members who were forced to watch this happen to someone they love. These politicians made their beds. Now they can lie in them.

As a Floridian, and just finding out about the 6 week ban, this is heartbreaking. I truly can't believe this has happened. Now I worry if my wife becomes pregnant, there's a chance she can die. How is it possible that religious nutbags are able to have control over people like this?

Be responsible. It is impossible for a woman to get pregnant if sex is done on her infertile days. There are ways to see whether your spouse is fertile or not. We are not "religious nutbags." Even if you abort, you are forced to give birth to the body of a dead baby. The effects of this are completely hidden by pro-choice activists, and from the information I could gather from non-biased websites, women are negatively affected.
Then don't impregnate your wife, how hard could that be?

I'm more concerned about the guaranteed future human being, particularly, in cases that do not involve rape or unplanned pregnancy where the woman somehow managed to get pregnant without having sex, like using someone else's sex toy or something just so happened to have sperm on it or something stupid, it can, and probable has happened, anyways, cattle do not get to choose when they do anything to get pregnant that's something the rancher/farmer does, a woman however in cases that's not rape, or the other involuntary one, gets to choose when she or if she wants to do anything that could get her pregnant and as such should take full responsibility for it.

@@LibSoc_Dixie They choose the second they actually began to partake in act(s) that could get them pregnant, if a condom has a hole in it or something that's a risk they were willing to take and got unlucky with. I agree with her body her choice and she made that choice when she decided to and then did something that could get her pregnant, now if she did not decide to and like went out for a drink and got drugged and coerced into it I would say that it wasn't her choice as being drugged does/can take away free autonomy, but if she went out there and drugged/drank herself into a stupor with the intent to have sex later that same night then she should bear responsibility for that, but that's how I feel it should be, otherwise I'm willing to accept a compromise of giving a certain amount of time were it can be done but to then cut it off after words if only so no one is happy.
What would be a good time? People say when the heart forms, but for me it'd be never, but once again, I'm willing to accept no one being happy and I don't know the process enough to make that kind timed call.

Unacceptable political abomination
My heart goes out to this family and the pain they had to experience knowing that their baby wasn’t going to live. I know that abortion wouldn’t have done anything to help this baby even if it would’ve taken away the family’s anticipation of the pain. I do not believe we should choose when life ends, but I am still sympathetic to the stress and frustration they felt knowing it couldn’t be over sooner. I hope the doctors did everything they could to help this baby survive for as long as it did 💔

We need better health care for women. I believe abortion is more harmful then pregnancy and birth, if the baby is going to die then mother should be given options for what she wants for baby last moments. Some babies have lived for a week or more.. I wouldn’t have regrets weather I got 1 hr or a week its better than nothing and having a very invasive unnatural procedure to apparently avoid causing her pain? I would rather hold smell and kiss my baby goodbye then have it torn out of me we need more humane options for women and their babies. Period

As someone who’s delivered dozens of children and put them on ventilators I can tell you that the women who are most healthy emotionally are the ones who get to hold their child and say goodbye.

My relative carried her baby to term knowing the baby was dead within her.This was prior to our country having abortion. In the end she committed suicide and left her husband and child to soldier on. May God be with them. I believe thT everyone should have the right to choose. It's a bunch of old men who have made this rule. Men enjoy the moment and oft times walk away. Women suffer the consequence.
