- The protagonist of this episode of Combat Approved is the Yars strategic nuclear complex. The nuclear deterrent missile, the Yars is currently the most powerful weapon that forms the basis of Russia's ground-based nuclear shield. To tell about it, the film crew of the program will go on the Yars field trip, get into the classified command posts of the Strategic Missile Forces and visit the secret hangars where the Yars are on alert round-the-clock. Besides, for the first time the journalists will be allowed to visit the Yars production. They will even show the design of one of the samples of suitcase with the nuclear button, which is always with the President. The journalists have never been allowed so close to such secrets, but in the year of the 60th anniversary of the Strategic Missile Forces, they made an exception for Combat Approved.

At 24 minutes I think we're seeing people weld in an inert-atmosphere welding shop! I've heard of that. I teach welding, and you can read about stuff like this, but I don't know how many places do it in the US? This would be a great subject for the channels that just deal with welding! I realize this is a general-audience channel, not complaining. I know people in the US use "glove boxes" where the welding is inside a chamber full of Argon, but the operator (many of them are men!) is outside in the common air. These guys in Russia seem to be trailing hoses behind them, they're like astronauts! I think they have air and exhaust, so that they don't exhale into the room. I watched that little bit six times. It looked so science-fiction-ey!

Usa has them they just keep it quiet like they did with the stealth bombers .
All ICBMs are hypersonic. So the US has them but the US lacks Hypersonic Cruise missiles and glide vehicles and lacks a truly multi layered anti ICBM missile defense shield. The US Ground based system is designed for 1990s Russian nuclear threats not modern.

One thing is, the point is to hide the missile launcher so that the enemy cannot preemptively destroy it with a first strike, right? Wouldn't all this extra protection, numerous preliminary security sweeps and literally dozens of vehicles in a column to support just a couple of Yars launchers, actually be more likely to reveal the launcher's position?

@@alexeyvlasenko6622my guess is a lot of them travel underground in tunnels and are kept near mountains in tunnels near mountains and also under bridges. Also, my guess is when they move a convoy they use radar and satellite jamming equipment to prevent US satellites from seeing what is happening and they likely move off road or at night. It is interesting they reveal all of this to the public though. A smart thing about the mobile based system is you can easily build more and lie about your quantity in international treaties.

Why America has no road mobile ICBMS simple. The B61 gravity tactical nuclear weapons family and possibly the MOAB might be able along with ground pentrators for nuke missions. Same could said of Russian air launched munitions.

The big reason is the US is more democratic and has internal opposition more. Genuine liberal anti war sentiements and fiscal conservatives and libertarian anti interventionism has made its way into Congress and has resulted in lack of funding for multi layered missile defense systems or weapons platforms that will only be used in an end of the world scenario. Also, the US approach has historically been to place the bulk of their missiles on submarines which are mobile and near impossible to preemptively strike. The best bet to destroy submarines is to locate them underwater with an attack submarine and neutralize them before they can pop off SLBM.
