The knowledge, the education, the culture of a person makes always a big difference. What a contrast, between the talk, the ideas, the personality of this woman and the thousand pinterest-like decorators we see around!
Wow. She really has a passion for her work. Pretty incredible breadth of knowledge. She goes far beyond your garden-variety "designer". A feast for the eyes.
Almost like a museum tour by a historian rather than a house tour by a textile designer. She speaks with such a knowledge and fascination, you can tell she really loves what she does and the things she has.
That's exactly what I came to comment... she's a Docent of her own home... and doesn't come off so hoity-toity with ALL the name dropping. I am going to say however, that perhaps it's the editing of the interview that's left us not knowing WHOM the bust is of but rather who (Madeleine Caston, I think) it belonged to before she owned it. And I don't know if I'm supposed to be impressed or not. So... as I said... it "just" borders on Bourgeosie trying to be "upper class" Noble via name dropping, and thankfully doesn't quite get there because it does seem like she's a historian.
@@MTMF.london Isn't it though lol I've never understood why people must put people into a class simply because they like things or collect things. It's an interview asking her to express her feelings and describe these items. People these days no longer seem interested in other people's feelings or thoughts just their own.🤷♀️
it's absolutely wonderful to see a designer exploring the art, culture and history of this area of the globe, so very few people do, I've never met anyone else who's collected those Russian story books as I do, they are just glorious, so beautiful, and I absolutely treasure them, they're an inspiration
This house is hallmarked with decorative talent. This woman has extraordinary visual literacy. The fusion of visual cultures is masterful and rich. A truly cosmopolitan vision. Kudos.
This one video had more impact on me and on how I now see everything I have collected, than all the videos on interior decorating I have watched over the years, combined! I ended up taking out and laying out every rug and fabric I have. Thank you for this!
Being half Indian and half Latvian, Nathalie’s home really speaks to me…I have always loved colour and pattern and the history of beautiful things. Her home is the fruition of all of my dreams.
How wonderful to hear from someone so interested in the West-East crossover. This is a beautiful witness to the good fruits of curiosity and collecting. Thank you for sharing your passion with the rest of us. I find many of the decorative elements in and on the Russian Dacha of more recent times, just as enchanting as these lovely textiles. Evidence of just how rich the heritage is.
It is a complete package. The strong colors and bright patterns invite and envelope the viewer. There is a gentle simplicity here that makes it all work.
wow! what a stunning revelation to find someone interested in so many cultures .. and such a deep knowledge of Russian folklore , fabrics and prints , I'm amazed ! what a truly unique , one of a kind , special lady Nathalie is !
Oh that dining room! I love really atmospheric small drawing rooms and dining rooms that feel culturally sophisticated yet unpretentious, full of heritage, the sense of ancestry mixed with warmth and a sense of relaxation. So inviting and elevating at the exact same time. When someone can handle so many patterns, is ready to take on colour and textiles so confidently with such an eye toward ultimate harmony...wow, they are truly on another level to most decorators. Gorgeous.
Nathalie’s eye is magical I have her book Décors Barbares and it is the most immersive textile book and very special I always refer back to it for a visual feast.
What a beautiful house! The fabrics she designed are breathtaking. I feel like I just learned things, listening to her talk about her craft. Last but not least, I love that her house is full of books! A room without bookshelves is just wrong.
Incredible colors and designs.... In fact-the most beautiful textiles and fabrics I've ever seen!!! The presentation was phenomenal and Nathalies knowledge of old Russian folklore is bar none. And the curtain fabric that she uses that's "Beadermeyery" with the gorgeous leaves (floral) print found in Amir's cousin's robe is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORUTE FABRIC OF ALL TIME....... Her company is fabulous and although I cannot afford it myself, I would drop dead for any piece of her fabric... Even a scrap.
Excellent, the influx of armenian, Russian and Persian motifs made the decor and furnishings very authentic, interesting and really beautiful to look at. I always admired that "turkey red" of certain Orthodox icons and now i can see - textiles as well.
Stunning and meaningful. I had some of this Russian Fairytale books in my childhood. I didn’t appreciate it as a kid, I found it too dark and grownup. Probably I still have it somewhere in my house. Little note: Russian icons are usually kept on the right side of the window. I don’t know where does it come from.
Nathalie’s love of all textiles, ancient history, myths & legends, etc definitely combine to showcase a beauty that pays homage to all the previous generations’ creativity! She truly has admiration & respect for the previous historical creations & takes her inspiration from them! Copying previous works of design is the highest form of flattery. It seems that many high end fabric designers all do the same thing. They research & copy what was previously designed & woven! It’s a Fashion Design Cycle that keeps on repeating! And, she’s doing a lovely job at it!
Bonsoir i am barbarians from Algeria i loved your barbarians style so élégant so classe and i loved your dresse votre robe est vraiment Magnifique et aussi les couleurs d'étoffe que vous venez de montrer and i loved thé pillows where you take a seat it's so chaleureux et très douillet i am very proud to see our traditionnel things introduced by you i am not very good in english but it's so gorgeous vraiment Magnifique bonne continuation and thanks to share with us have a Nice day
This lady is a genius with fabrics! It's obvious that she loves the materials she works with, it's like they tell her stories and she knows how to use it in a way that the they come alive.
It’s inspiring to see how people with a vision make their homes truly their own little worlds. Up until the end I had completely forgotten about the outside world because her home is such an immersive, unique experience in itself.
I just love these videos. The people are fascinating. So interesting & knowledgeable. Their homes are lived in & homely. All the colours & patterns are beautiful.
Seeing your vintage fabrics collection, reminds me of my mother's first trip to Russia, saying all stuffs are so expensive so she only got a scarf from Russia. Seeing this video, I realized she must have been drawn to the beauty of the fabric. Thanks for sharing your home, I like that each and every object has a story and meaning. :)
Greetings from Saint-Petersburg! ☺️ I really liked the interior design, although I prefer pastel colour scheme. It reminds me old Russian houses. I think these colours and textiles create folk russian atmosphere.
That Paisley print used to be called 'Jacobean'. My mother and I used to embroider them on with a variety of stitches. Beautiful home. Love her knowledge and expertise.
WOW, all of those textiles are amazing. You educated me a bit on Russian textiles, I think I will delve into learning more. When I see a fabric that I love, I can feel it in my stomach. Thank you for sharing🤗
I enjoyed listening to her more than looking at the rooms. She was fascinating. I just need to go there and tidy up a bit and do some nice folding etc...............
Great! Now on top of being obsessed with everything Britain I’ll also have to deal with being a Russophile. That’s how unapologetically impressionable I am.
@Michel 🤣😂You definitely don’t need to apologize or worry!! Beauty knows no man-made-boundaries or devision of cultures! She's rich
She is, @@captainman2clever351, but there are informed, knowledgeable people who are not rich. It helps, but it's not a requirement.
Stepping into her home is like stepping into a story book or fable itself. Stunning. Thank you.

Teresa, you are not alone. Me too. The same books, fabrics, pillows, layers of carpets, folk carving, painted furniture...
I was trying to hear the name of the illustrator, will you share some titles?
@@tiahenson7743 some of famous Russian old illustration masters are: Ivan Bilibin, Boris Dekhterev, Evgeniy Charushin

Thank you House & Garden. I love learning about all of these amazing people.
Beautiful - her own style, her own way. The way design is supposed to be. Not cookie cutter.
What a unique and beautiful woman and home. Isn't the essence of great design to be surrounded by things you love?

There is a beauty in abundance and there is a beauty in minimalism ❤️. It is fascinating to see, thank you for opportunity to step into this house
Very interesting. Thank you. I can imagine her doing a cultural tv documentary about historical fabrics.

Потрясающе увидеть столь трепетное и любовное отношение к русской сказке, декоративно-прикладному искусству... Билибину и Баксту...Благодарю!!!

You can definitely tell as an East European there's a lot of inspiration there. Some of those fabrics brought me back to my grandmother's home
