How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a UA-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin. Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like. These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Hopefully this video is kosher! Our next video will be Wednesday! Have a great rest of your weekend y’all!
Get a real chisel plow that’s way to small for that tractor
@@benny8300 The tractor is only 235 hp
@@HowFarmsWork do you can pull a little bit larger ripper
Yay, Ryan got his woice back.
You got me worried 🗣️
Ryan……i would like to congratulate you on being such an inspiration to all the people out there who are either considering taking up farming and those that won’t to know where there produce comes from …..in all the work that goes into producing it and i would like to applaud you for that ……thank you and have a safe and happy day.
Thanks Matt!
Working with two chisel plows definitely speeds things up a little bit😉👍 great to hear that you fixed the sound problem👍😁
Awesome video👍👍
Hey Ryan thanks for the update, that drone footage was awesome. Take care and have a great upcoming week 👍
Farmers artwork from the sky is always beautiful thanks for sharing
Enjoy all the videos Ryan and your narratives too!
Sound was way better thanks! Love seeing the soil in action. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for sharing another interesting video, and yes tillage is one of the best forms of therapy to watch.
Nicest music ever. Relaxing. Thank you
That 4640 has to be one of my all time favorite of y’all’s! Spent a lot of time on my grandfathers 4020 before he passed and it was unfortunately sold at an auction shortly after. Still loving the content!
Luv the videos hope your family has many blessings to come.
I was waiting for one of those booms to break off. Excellent job and video! Enjoy your weekend! Thanks
As always, impressive drone footage Ryan! What’s even more impressive that under appreciated is you do those awesome shots while hand steering in your tractor! Awesome stuff
Always dig the videos this time of year 😄 Miss my seasonal tractor therapy already!
Nothing like the smell of fresh turned dirt.
Super drone shots on this one.
Love it when the "manager" rides along.
Take care and great video.
Good evening Ryan. That fertiliser spreader rolling round like a yacht really shows how hilly your land is. Take care see you next time.
Fantastic video! Thanks Ryan.
i can relate to the tractor therapy, my dad who is going to be 88 years old next month, he gave me his tractors, they are both 1949's, one is a John Deere Model A, and the other one is a ford 8N. both have working front end loaders and PTO's, the ford has a working 3 point hitch.
i start them and run them in my yard about 2 or 3 times of year on my small yard, about 1 acre. not sure what i'm going to do with them, since they are somewhat hard to maintain when i don't really have a use for them, besides perhaps a parade.
still kind of fun to start and drive down the street, since i live in the suburbs of Minneapolis, and boy do i get the looks and thumbs up when i drive them to the gas station.
Nice. Seems pretty sweet that you're getting the job done in half the time. Glad to see the capital investments in equipment, like the "new" chisel plow, paying off for you guys.
We used to do a lot of notill but in the fall I spent a lot of time in a 4450 pulling a 4 shank ripper. It was rather enjoyable as I was left alone.
Great video. Thank you for the explanations.
Doing a beautiful job 👍
Love this type of tractor therapy Ryan.
Chisel plowing is so satisfying
Hey Ryan great video. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, how's Travis doing hopefully all is good with him and the rest of your family
Just friday we had a 8310r and 4455 hooked up and chiseled all friday it was fun doin that for the first time in years
Looks like a good operation, keep on plowing, those drone shots are great.
Wow that fertilizer spreader was really rocking back and forth great video as always love seeing the ground getting ripped up
Love your videos Ryan makes me miss farming
Another great vid!
Nice video Ryan!
I love tractor therapy!
Great Video
Enjoyed It
Excellent quality from your drone footage.
Good stuff Ryan and Rocket:):)
great segment in the beginning there!
Your videos are so beautiful and have absolutely the best photo, music and editing in the genre, Ryan! The fert spreader looks as a jet fighter trying to land on a carrier in full storm!
Keep on with your uploads and a big Thanks here from Sweden with not only a Black Friday - The whole winter season are dark! ;D
Thank you! Videos like this one are the ones I have the most fun with!
Great vid Ryan. Top Qual as ususal.
Like the video Ryan .
Thank you for this #excellent video!
Nice drone footage like seeing the tractors and equipment at work good video brother
I cannot wait to save up and buy my first mini tractor 😍
Can't wait to see the Anhydrous fertilizer being applied again 🙌 🤗 😍 🤪
Hey Ryan!! Have a great weekend.
You too Darrin!
Awesome 👍👍👍
I love watching tillage.
Love John Deere Green!
I an joy all of your videos damon cox
Good video
I like your tractor😄😄😄
Love the video ever think of getting a bigger Chisel Plows...
Nice video and drone filming 👍 greets from Holland 😎
Man Ryan, you certainly put together some outstanding videos! Thanks much…..
Will the CaseIH chisel hold together going over half as much acreage? Always was an issue in years past.
Good luck
Great video. What kind of fertilizer are you putting on with the boom?
Is it better just to leave a field plowed over the winter or smoothed down like the VT finishes? Or is the VT to better mix the residue after chiseling?
Awesome
What do you use the old dairy barn for and could you use it to put beef cattle in?
Hey Ryan, check your right side disc gang mounts. I noticed the discs moving back and forth while you were using them. Good video mate. Nth Queensland Australia.
And people say that it doesn't take education to be a farmer. Tractor x 2 = getting work done twice as fast. That's MATH my friends! :)
You seem to be digging pretty deep in this video. In a future video, could you explain why you chisel plow vs. VT vs. what other method you might use, and why you choose a particular depth? I'd be interested in knowing the thinking that goes into what you are doing.
Thanks for the beautiful videos!
Can u please put the jd chisel plow on the 46 it would look so majestic going through the field
Noticed that you haven't mentioned anything about sink holes this year. Did you come across any? Nice drone shots. Gets a good perspective with a birds eye view.
Fantastic camera work 👏 👌 👍 my father would throttle me if I made all that waves over our fields 😀 😄. I do know why you do it though🤪. keep up the great work. Stay safe 🏴
That fertilizer spreader looked like an aircraft on a very unstable cross wind approach, with the pilot his finger on the the go-around switch.
Heard from other UA-camrs that it helps your algorithm along with the Like, I should make a comment. So here goes....
I enjoyed this video Thanks for sharing. Happy subscriber 😊.
Hello, why are your fields so crooked and not straight, why do you keep leaving stripes that are not processed?
great videos, keep it up, thanks
It kind of looks like a big bird trying to take off! : )
Can the 8235R pull a bigger chisel or does that one max it out?
Does Andrew think the boom bouncing like that effects coverage?
What kind of fertilizer do you apply in autumn? Do you think it is a good idea to work the soil deeply before wintertime concernig erosion?
Just wondering how the fertilizer gets spread evenly when the boom on the applicator moves so much?
Are you guys considering getting a wider chisel plow
Good video, how many acres do you and your family farm?
I always felt better after some seat time...
That’s a great video! Beautiful drone footage and fields/topography. How does the 8235R handle the 9 shank deere? We have identical chisel plow.
It handles it well, I think we could upgrade it to an 11 shank without issues!
Light up those burn piles to make some more room and plow it under!
Hey Ryan any chance of a new truck or tractor?? Blessings from Costa Rica
Sounds like the 82 works pretty hard pulling that chisel plow.
Great video as always but just a question when are you and Hannah tying the knot now that’s it’s been official
Hitch the VT to the back of the chisel plow and see how it goes.
Sprayer looks like a moon buggy with those lights at night.
consulta desde argentina, por que no dan vuelta donde esta verde?
do you guys always follow the rows?
How long can a tractor run on a full tank of gas? Does the activity you are doing effect the economy? How do you estimate "mileage" or fuel economy?
Turnin' dirt!
Szia!!! Ezt tavasszal mivel munkálod el??
Andrew applied fertilizer?
I have one question: Why don't tillage strips of grass in fields?
Here in the Netherlands the farmers must plant a cover crop to keep nutritions etc into the soil. How does that works at your farm?
Unless it’s seeded by air I’m not sure how it’s possible after harvest since it’s already below freezing
@Acer Acres by the time the crop comes off it’s frozen and nothing grows anyway
i seen 1 year you had the chiesl on the 7600 and from the tube here it seeem like it did pretty well why not use it on the IH that way you would have 4wd just wandering
It’s underpowered for the job
How many people missed the deer at 3:15 jumped out the tall grass running toward the ditch?
You've got good eyes!!
Good video Ryan I hope you had a good Thanksgiving you're sure putting a lot of music to your video I guess you don't have a lot to say God bless🙏🚜
Just a few videos ago a couple people were complaining because I talk too much so I gave them what they wanted before winter and it’s all nothing but talking 😂
@@HowFarmsWork music was awesome bud.
Cant make everyone happy
Great vid Ryan love seeing those tractors work. Question did Travis quit UA-cam?
Keep farming
He’s wanting to get out of it, it’s tough farming, YouTubing, and being a Dad
@@HowFarmsWork I don't blame him. Kids are hard work. Maybe you can talk him into making a few guest appearances on here for some commentary.
@@nikphoenix no way
How old is Rocket?
What will be ran over the bean stubble going into corn? Is it gonna be anhydrous and notill into it or some kind of ripping sub soiler?
We may hit it with the VT in the spring, but I’m pro no-tilling into bean stubble
Peep at @3:14 at the bedded doe lol
Never saw a fertilizer spreader applying fertilizer on a field so rough!!!
Far cry from the 0till we do here in Sk! If we tiĺled that deep here nothing would grow! Lol..?You must have a huge fuel bill!! Lol
Hi
