I always loved this one and remember watching it the night it was originally broadcast. I used to check the TV guide in advance to know when Buddy was guesting and VHS record it. Still have them all. One thing that makes me chuckle about this one is when Ed does the Henry Adler stick click it always reminds me of Buddy’s Sesame Street Animal drum battle and then I envision Buddy doing to Ed what Animal did to him at the end. However, Ed and Buddy were great friends and Ed worshipped Buddy. Their embrace at the end is sweet. I saw Buddy live over 30 times and met /spoke with him on 3 memorable occasions. I still can’t believe the last time was over 37 years ago.
What a great drum battle with mutual respect! I never met Buddy, yet I took a master class with Ed and bought his signature cymbal in 1994. What an honor to be blessed by 2 legends.

🤩
that you can even be in the same split screen as Buddy Rich shows how good Ed Shaughnessy was .
.. best musician artistic from all world Western performer
I remember this!!....My teacher and good friend Ed.......I learned a TON from him...Miss that guy.
Phenomenal 👏👏👏
Legend has it that Shaughnessy's skills derived from the ancient Amulet of Power around his neck.
😂😂😂😂😂
Talent, focus and thousands of hours of hard work probably had something to do with it, too.
Winner of best comment left!!! HA!!!!
You know you want one!
Nobody drops big bombs like Ed Shaughnessy
We were all friends until 2:12, Buddy switches from “stun” to “annihilate”! Man, how great was Ed though? What a great moment in history!
Such a respectable drum duo!
Buddy is truly "one of a kind" like they say!

I recorded this, the night it was broadcast. On my old Betamax.
The tune was noticeably faster at the end than it was at the beginning.

Buddy Rich was to drums as Babe Ruth was to baseball!!!
Hare ram hare Krishna

Ed wont humble buddy rich. He can do solo more terrific than that but he wont because he'd respect buddy and buddy fans
Ed was good but he's no Buddy Rich!
