I remember you showing the firestrike years ago..I've been using a " speedy sharp striker" and a 5 in ferro rod for many years..im liking what I'm seeing with your system..would like to THANK YOU ..did your "bushcrafty" mods and then some to my BK7..couldn't be happier! Love the channel!
Ok, you got me Chris I just ordered one and some extra Tinder. He is proud of his shipping cost lol. Glad you are back and I'm receiving the notifications. Hope your health continues to improve.
i started watching u just about a week agoan love ur videos n love knives . this is definately a nice produc. i first saw it on drop forge survival and wasnt convinced then but now i definitely see the need .. im sold on it . one thing i like about ur videos is i really feel the honest opinion coming from u , so thank u
Have you ever tried the UST Blast Match? It's basically a ferro rod with built in striker you can use with one hand. For emergencies I think it might be the best option, apart from the Pull Start fire starters.
Had one of those on a bag...hadnt used it but maybe twice and put it away in the kit, hung the bag up and went to grab it before a trip like a week before i left it had all but fallen apart somehow. No idea how. Made a mess in the bag it was in. Was stored less than a year. It was my 3rd. Loved them the first 1 i gave away 2nd i lost 3rd was trashh
I've never heard of this before. Awesome demonstration. I'm really liking your content lately. I watched sporadically in the past when searching specific items, but now I'm just tuning in regularly. Having the beetus sucks, but you're battling through. I'm tempted to buy one of these, but the price is prohibitive. Then again, it could be the difference of living or dying. Damn it.
It's one of those things that it seems expensive until it arrives in the mail and then you're already making new money and you're glad you have it. Because the striking is so efficient, the rod lasts WAY longer than a big ferro rod you scrape with a knife spine.
@@preparedmind101ok, that makes perfect sense to me now. So the tube not only supports the rod so it doesn't break but it also guides all the spark directly onto the tinder... that is actually ingenious. Thanks for explaining! ✌🏼
I own some firesteels and they all do the job, the bigger ones mostly better as the smaller. Maby the Lightning Strike is a bit better, but practically I think it doesn't really matter!
I’m with you! $60 for Life Insurance / Fire in a freezing situation , is well worth the investment! I’m buying one! The large handle is good for times if your gross motor skills are failing due to freezing conditions.
Dang it Chris....LOL guess I better get one. It has stayed true to you and your pyroness so it's good for sure. Thanks for share man. Glad you are back at it. Take Care
Hi Chris. I would say that the USP of this fire starter - the fact that it directs the sparks down onto the tinder - can be done much more easily (and cheaply) by replicating the way that Ray Mears and Paul Kirtley strike their fire steels. If you search "How To Create Really Big Sparks With A Swedish Firesteel" by Paul Kirtley, you'll see the method. It uses much less material per strike, and the sparks are generated very close to the tinder in a very controlled manner. In my opinion this is a much better option than one of these lightning strikes.
How do you know if you haven't tried it? As I showed in the video, this doesn't use much material either as evidenced by the ferro rod I swapped out after 9 years. It also carries the treated tinder. If you get yourself in a cold emergency situation you might not have the time or the capacity to locate optimal tinder and perform optimal expert bushcraft technique.
@@preparedmind101 It's not really expert bushcraft technique, it's very easy if you use a softer ferro rod alloy. I'd also point out that your hands were shaking every time you tried to use the lightning strike, and it looked very awkward. The advantages you list of the lightning strike seem to be that it holds tinder. Well so does a belt pouch or a pocket, and they hold substantially more of it.
@@mrsmith9079 it's because I'm doing it at weird angles to get it in a video shot instead of just doing it naturally. Things are a lot easier when it's a two-man video operation. You're free to do it however you want.
Sorry to hear that. You might want to check out "Thekneesovertoesguy" You Tube channel for knee rehabilitation exercises - that guy really is an expert on knee strength/mobility.@@preparedmind101
You guys might want to check out acquiring a grounding blanket, aka earthing blanket, grounding mat. It's kind of bizarre but twice within the last week I've had it recommended, haha. I know I am, I hear alot of positive testimony on it helping arthritic symptoms and reducing inflammation. When were grounded our brain turns to the alpha brain state that's incredible, so increase in quality sleep. Heck yeah, this is a must buy. Edit: or simply primitive camp everyday would work too, ha.
I remeber buying some cheap Coghlans ferro rod. I dont even think it really even started a fire and died after like 100 swipes of a metal scraper. Definitely not a life saver.
It's an oddball old skool PM101 thing that had some secret meaning. It worked well at getting people to do a double take. Began with my Becker BK7 I named "Jessica" and then my first knife "Jess-X". My entire series of knives were numbered JX knives. And we had a "Jessica List" playlist denoting products that were top-notch products. This is the 11th year of the channel so newer people might not know the inside jokes...
@@preparedmind101 i've been watching your channel for several years but just never asked where the name originated. By the way, I would be very interested in a re-introduction of the Jessmuk.
You've been an advocate of the Lightning Strike for so long now. Gonna have to save up for one I think!
Same, the mini is calling to me.

They tend to fall apart.
I picked one up , when they first came out , years ago ............still nothing better on the market . Design cant be beat .
That thing is awesome and absolute BEAST MODE!

I always liked your orginal but I just thought it was to big. This smaller one is very tempting.

Clothes dryer lint is exelent fire starter
Cool I didn’t know they made a mini, I always liked the lighting strike very idiot proof way to make a fire.
Worth every penny !
The wazoo tinder tabs are as waterproof as they can possibly be! They work well! Unlike that black rope, hopelessly not waterproof!
You're gonna make me start buying stuff again
