More American Car Cruising Gone Wild In Sweden
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 тра 2023
- Classic car cruising in Sweden is a fascinating mix of beautifully restored vintage American cars and raggare (Swedish "redneck" subculture...?) in their trashed automobiles getting drunk on moonshine and partying. And I love it all!
Here are some of the sights and scenes from a car meet in Ystad, Sweden organized by the Yankee Car Club in Skåne.

A Swede here, this culture has existed in this country since the 50s. And it looks like it will continue many years.
That makes me happy!
This is heartwarming to see a remote country loving Anerican cars so much, even if they are less collectible models. Americans here are hard drinking and rude as well, so your locals are embracing authentic Anerican culture.
haha, that's hilarious! thanks for the lol. over here the 4-doors are the coolest and highly desirable!
Hi! Do you know what? There are many very rare American Classics, (mostly from the 50"s) in Sweden. I think we started go over the pond to buy them even before the Americans realized there value... Late 60"s early 70"s. Ask any collector in America, (why not Jay Leno?) and they will tell you that in Sweden you will find very many collectible models... No offense... Just so you know! (My first car as an 18 year old was a 1966 Galaxie with Big Block)
In the eighties here in Sweden you needed to have 2 doors. 4 doors were considered cheep .
As an American lover of classic cars this video makes me happy! Thank you for posting it and the knowledge you shared!
As an American who goes to car shows/cruises this is very fascinating to me. There's some similarities to what we do here some stark differences (like the doors open while moving, the lack of "winga-dinga car music and the public drunkenness which will get you in a TON of trouble in The States.)
And yeah you're not wrong about us almost NEVER seeing old 4 door cars and station wagons which is a real shame since I'd love to get hold of an old wagon. Those "Pilsner Wagons" are a bit similar to what we call "Rat Rods" here where they look really rough but are (usually...sometimes) in decent working order.
really interesting to hear the comparisons with the scene in the us, thanks! yeah, rat rod must be the inspiration here. but i wonder who started it first...? :)
They'll all look better on a Volvo.
One of the biggest meetups in the world is in Sweden. I think it's still classified as the world's' largest meetup for classic/american cars.
When you named the two different car enthusiasts you name the restorer, but there are a lot of cars that just are In good condition.
Thanks for taking us to the classic car cruise again. Your photography and your imagination give us a feeling of being there. My favorite this year is the blue Corvette number 70 by HP Racing/Autoshop, just because it looks nice. But there are many beauties in the parade.
hey thats me at 2:39 in the middle of the street taking pictures haha
haha, that's cool! maybe i appear in one of your photos :)
I can't wrap my head around this. It's crazy!
I’m living just a few miles from Ystad and saw some of the cars on the way to the cruising. Always a sign of the coming summer in Sweden! :)
Love it too!
3:18 Ha, ha, Ghostbusters!
When we were visiting Sweden in 2021 we saw one of these Pilsner wagons parked with all doors open, we took some pictures. It's a strange subculture.
Yes it is a strange subculture these creatures are very insecure inside and many of them suffer from mental illnesses and abuse drugs and alcohol it is a shame for SWEDEN
Loved the followup video, Woody! Springtime in southern Sweden, perfect for cruisin' !! Some real classic beauties in there, keep 'em in the right lane!
I've dreamed of visiting Sweden and stuff like this makes it even more interesting. I need to plan a trip for next year for sure, need to visit Faro and see the Bergman estate too.
Anyway, enjoyed the video and the vibe looks pretty casual and fun!
Everything is fun until it gets dark, then the most drunk people come out and fight, throw bottles at the cars and behave very badly.
@@robiinkarlsson2490 We're in Sweden now - and we behave rather well! =)
The thing with the road worthiness is that a cop can make a roadside inspection and deem the car a safety hazard and give you a sticker on the windscreen, that means you have to retake the big serious inspection before driving it again, so they try to keep them just above that limit.
Also, since they are driving close around expensive cars, they don't want to be the cause of an accident, so brakes and steering is kept in good order, even on most pilsnertrucks
Totally unexpected love it!!
11:02 Fan va häftig o ball man är när man slänger mög ut genom bilen, WÅÅ JÄÄ!!! Så jävla coolt!!
precis... "mög" i learn a new word today!
If they want the full authentic experience, there needs to be several food carts serving hot dogs and cheeseburgers and fountain sodas, and rock and roll music from the 1950's through the 1970's.
The older generation of raggare is complaining about the music this generation is playing. " they are not real raggare, back in the sixties and seventies we were the real deal!"
@@TheBergmark Yeah, seems odd that if they want the classic car experience of that era, they’re not playing the music that was a huge part of it.
I can recomend Västerås summer meet in july.
The "Power meet"? That's not in Västerås anymore. The small of town of Lidköping has taken over that tradition.
Power Meet in Västerås was a really big thing at hte time when I lived there in the 90:s. Even Jay Leno took interest in it and was in contact with the organisers.
Don't know why the stopped arranging it there...
@@Magnus_Loov Look again , i said "summer meet" in Västerås. As you say the power meet is in Lidköping , but there is still a meet in Västerås (called summer meet) the same weekend as power meet. The meet in Västerås is still very big , about 10 000 cars.
@@Skoog. Hehe! Okay! Didn't know there still was a meet and that it was called "Summer meet". (Thought you were talking about the old poer meet in Västerås in general and didn't remember the name of the old "Power meet" and said "summer meet")
@@Magnus_Loov Moving to swedish....
Like #97. Beautiful share, fantastic car show, amazing video.
Great share. ☕️🌹👍🚌
I think I went to high school senior prom in one of those station wagons. Prom was in Manhattan... we drove that station wagon (metallic olive green) thru the Pan Am building as fast as it could go. You used to be able to do that. I forget which model station wagon... it was my friend's... one of those huge ones.
Didn't knew that ! Thanks for sharing !
…remember this very well from my time in Sweden, Stockholm…😊 Missing the Nordics…
1:32 That police enjoyed the atmosphere. You could see him dancing with the horse 🐎😂
«Just cruising

Just cruising
As long as Woody filming there»😂
Interesting. There are many classic car clubs in the US, but most of them go park somewhere in organized events and then people walk around admiring the cars and/or talking to the owners. Most are the fully restored variety. As you said there are two varieties seen here. There seems to be a lot of drinking and partying going on. Looks a lot like main street cruising in small town America, except the open drinking and driving likely wouldn't be tolerated here. My Dad used to collect 66 ford mustangs and I did see one of those in the video! Love the big fins they used to put on the back ends.
Similar thing here in Australia. The police are pretty tough on drunk drivers. In some states like Queensland passengers can't drink alcohol either.
Classic car culture here is more geared towards Australian models of cars since it's pretty expensive to import old cars and spare parts from the US, and they're not practical to drive often since we drive on the left.
Though you do see groups of American muscle cars on the roads occasionally - weekends on the Mornington Peninsula, if the weather is good!
Hej I Sverige så länge han eller hon som kör inte har druckit alkohol så är det okej, samt att de åker väldigt sakta ingen fara.😊
I may misunderstand you but just to clarify: the driver never drinks. At least that is very rare, I have never encountered a drunk driver at a cruising. I drive my 78 Caprice alot at cruisings but I would never consider drinking, except Coke and Dr.Pepper 😉 The passengers on the other hand are fueling themselves with beer 😂
@@Jonnesi 0,2% är gränsen för rattfylla sedan blir du av med körkortet 0,5% i EU
@@eje59 Har inte tänkt dricka alkohol när jag kör bil. Dum idé.
Looks pretty fun-where’s Greta😂🖖
haha, couldn't see her for all haze from the exhaust funes!
@@WoodyPianoShack just send her to Uzbekistan Woody) you can see here during day how water steam raising up from concrete. After she gets simultaneously steam-cooked and sun-roasted in here she will start to appreciate Swedish climate and will finally graduate school. 😂
These old cars are actually among the easiest to convert to electric and since the guys who are into these are also usually quite good mechanics I expect a lot of "amerikanare" will be converted in the years to come.
😂
If only she had experienced this in a "natural" way instead of growing up in a boring left-wing upper class family, she would have been sitting in one of the cars with a beer in her fist.
See you on 18 maj ! Me and my friends well be driving in the crussing. I drive White Cadillac Coupe Devil Ht 1971. And all our cars are pilsner wagon. But not bent or distroide. See you around 😊
Looks like a fun activity,I noticed the Corvette. I expected to hear some 50's - 70's US rock music but I guess the video would of been blocked if that happened.
mostly swedish songs, these guys oatriotic!
Pilsnerbil fö i je! Inte pilsner wagons 🇸🇪😂
Rat cars ska det vara, Rat cars it should be
My ford galaxie police sneaks by at 4:08😄👍
your ride?
@@WoodyPianoShack yeah, I bought it from a guy in Nevada ten years ago. Not a real police car, it appeared in a tv series called vegas in 2012 or 2013 so I guess they painted the car for the show😄
@@emilnilsson2405 that's awesome, and a very cool backstory! probably the real cop cars are very used and abused.
@@WoodyPianoShack yes I have som pictures from the show too👍yes i think they are, too bad😄
But look here on this very nice video on UA-cam.

The best muscle car meet in GTA 5 rp UA-cam 👍😊👍
I would love an American muscle car (I'm talking Mercury Cougar. Ford Torino Cobra, Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Charger or the legendary Mustang) myself. I'd even happily convert to electric as it's the beautiful bodies I like, rather than the engines. But I also have an affinity for big, long American saloons like the 98 Oldsmobile etc.
I would like to see those people who kept dropping litter get some kind of comeuppance. Litter louts are (censored) idiots.
hurumph, what's wrong with a morris minor or ford anglia...? :)
@@WoodyPianoShack They don't scratch my midlife crisis itch.
I can smell the fumes from those V8's...cough, cough.
Some Towncars this year.
Car at 9:58? With the visor?
Tons of American iron, least they drive on the right side ! Hahaha ...
American's are infatuated with Swedish meatballs Abba and awesome bad ass Volvos!
nån som vet vilken låt som spelas 8:30 in i klippet ?
de är ba knark musik
The word "raggare" is from the 50's. And they are not only driving crappy cars. The ones in scrappy cars just drink, scream and drink. Take facts before you write
Guy who sold all his keyboards buys camera stops talking and films cars in the street
variety! :)
Has the rat rods made it to Sweden yet?
you see a few, yes!
Did that guy just spill his cup of vomit?! @ 7:25
Yes he did, He is mentally ill has abused alcohol for many years and that's how it is with most of the slobbers
Undrar om han som spytt i en mugg va nöjd när han hällde ner det i sin egna bildörren 😂😂😂
i saw guys pissing on the side of their own cars, so probably no big deal with some vomit as well.... :)
The Red moggy Minor definitely isn't American lol
They'll all look better on a Volvo.
Stop oil .😱😆😄😅😍 olive oil
Some of the cars are nice but the binge-drinking culture is a shame.
I assume they're holding the doors open in case they need to have a quick spew.
"Unpopular cars of the 60"s and 70"s"?? Seems you don´t have a clue what you are talking about... Have you seen the prices of American Classics from 60"s and 70"s lately? Even in America.. BTW There are (as you mention a bit) thousands of real American Classic Cars renovated to perfection by serious guys in Sweden. Maybe you will do a video about those next time?
I cant believe they would like American cars. They must be amused by them or something. And why they dragging our Confederate flag on the ground?
Dumheten i sitt esse.
As an American lover of classic cars this video makes me happy! Thank you for posting it and the knowledge you shared!
