I miss this game so much, guild battles were amazing, HoH was absolutely the best. I have never experienced pvp that is like guildwars 1 in any other game.

less than 300 hours in pvp probably, I'm an average player, only glad rank 2, I'm 13 years old... If I was older I would've played this game since early years... when there was no GW2. when there were people in FA and HA, GvG matches available. better arenas such as Hero Battles and Team Arena. when a dervish was able to do 500 damage in a single hit XD

Strafing in Guild Wars is a sign of a noob player. To maximize your movement speed you need to click-to-move in Guild Wars. I got almost 3000 hours of Guild Wars' PvP played, so please don't call me "a clicker noob". I can tell you, there's mindblowingly much depth in GW's PvP. I agree though, SWTOR is a fail game.

The PvP is and was amazing. I hope that maybe this could come back but was not to be.
There was a huge issue in the PvP GW PvP had a huge learning curve. But it was known as the PvP game before dota got big.
I think if this was ever remade it could do well once again if done right.

It's quite amazing how little time the monks have to react to a spike. In the slow-mo it seems to be almost god-like.

Great editing, makes it possible to actually follow and understand the fight, which is often not the case for old GvG. Gonna show this to me wife so she understands what I mean when I drone on about the good old days of GW1.

@Feliexxxxxxxx Spacebar is the auto-attack key. You can customize controls though. and yes, skills can be cast by clicking it, but it's quite slow so just use keys 1-8. If your point is trying to ask if this game's too simple, it is not. This is propably one of the hardest games there is; I've played like 1600+ hours and still learning.
Someday one of us is gonna get enough money and make the real guild wars 2 and be CORPG esport gods.

well the difference between the 2 games is evident, the pvp system is dramatically renewed nothing in common with gw. You just need to watch the video, read reviews, read gw2 website. I played the beta so i have a clear picture of the situation. i'm not saying anything bad about gw2, just that i'm gonna miss the gvg (atm nobody knows if gvg will be included in gw2) and i'm gonna miss the monk, the interrupts and all the other dynamics that made Guild Wars the best competitive rpg ever.
gw was a great game, the gvg was so intense, required timing, coordination, vision, costant attention imho the best pvp system ever. i had a lot of fun playing this game, the player's ability really mattered.... so disappointed they made too many changes in gw2... do you remember the guild "World Of Charrcraft [GWII]? well i'm afraid they were right :)
@kyuhan5000 There are many forms of PvP in Guild Wars and this one usually takes the longest (up to 28 minutes). Heroes' Ascent can last quite long too, but Random Arenas matches usually last about 3 minutes or so. Trust me,the PvP is just awesome, though it will take a LOT of time to learn to play the game properly. And by the way,only the damage you do on enemies and the damage you take will pop up in-game. The "squares" are skill icons so you know what's hitting you.I hope you'll buy the game

Best RPG pvp of all time, just on the balance of damage vs variety of healing, let alone the entire millisecond accurate interrupt system. I remember bumping into a KMD player in an Alliance Battle once as a Monk and being so excited.
I can't imagine how successful an e-sport this would be today.
@damerli If you want to get some GW2 goodies, populating your Hall of Monuments will certainly help. However, that begs the question if it's worth it to you to do this in order to get some yet-undefined perks for the sequel.
My account with all add-onns, money, ectoes, perfect tuned gear, ranks and stuff got banned after 6k+ hours of playing. Got reaped by the huge scythe and never got back. However i think GW1 is my favorite game of all time. And now, after 7 years i'm still missing those gameplay emotions. In spite of losing my health in this game
pve stuff wasnt important anyways that was so good about guild wars. even if you had no gear you just build a fully equipped pvp character from scratch.

I couldn't agree more tbh. They should bring back GvG, it was the heart of Guild Wars and the best PvP in any game I've ever played. It's kinda hard to think of a way to bring it back though, since there are no monks. GW2 will never require as much skill as GW1, but they should at least try to do something similar with it. I've played maybe 30 hours of sPvP in GW2 and I'm already getting bored with it, while I've played maybe 2000+ hours of GW's PvP and it's as fun as ever(even though it's dead)

Is there really no other game where I can experience the same co-op feel of healing others in battle or controlling the fights? I don't want to re-buy the complete GuildWars 1 pack for 39,99 €
@Precedentxx Eotn is the newest but is an expansion pack what means you need another campaign to have it. Prophecies, Nightfall and Factions are those campaigns. I recommend you to have factions, because it includes competitive missions wich are fun, and if you want another campaign you can buy nightfall, wich brings lots of fun too, Prophecies isn't that fun and has less professions Nightfall and Factions, wich both brings 2 professions each.
i find GvG kinda boring, it lasts so long and everyones a clone of each other. i prefer RA/TA because people are always trying something different and original and the fights are alot more exciting. but thats my opinion, i kinda understand why GvG players don't change there builds alot, it could end with epic fail and effect there guild rating.
As to being friendly to new players, yea i got the hostility pretty quickly after causing my team to lose a few times, lol. but i guess thats what RA and such is for. i learned and read some forums on different builds and got better pretty quickly. and ironicly im the one who is getting pissed at my teamates for acting stupid, lol. ahhh good times.
Now that the dust has settled - who was the best pvp monk in GW1?

It sure is. But you kinda need all of them (Prophecies, Factions, Nighftfall and Eye of the North) to make it count for gw2. In EotN you can fill in your Hall of Monuments and get nice bonusses for gw2 (see Hall of Monument Reward calculater on the gw2 site).
No, there is totally not this problem in grouping, since guilds are a main part of the game(easy to find ^^)
and the grind is really small(lvl 20 max, does not take months to get to their, two days or even less if you do the storyline^^)

To be honest, if you want to be serious with your PvP, be good at PvE first.
You should play assassin or elementalist, they're wayyy easier than the other ones.
Also, you should buy the other campaigns if you want to be good.
they have 4, Rebel Rising [rawr]Rebel Rising Extended Edition [rawr] Rebel Rising Directors Cut [rawr] and Rebel Rising Take Three Give Two [rawr] i think thats the 4th one not sure on it.

nah i've seen yumy do a better one with rspike. perfect spike, 1 second warr with no dp with almost full health, literally all his health was gone instantly (no exaggeration)
ya they have won i think 4 tournament wins in 2008. N they would have won more but they allowed others to take the titles for a few months be4 dominating the Dec tournament.
LOL I dont know much about guild wars yet but 1 this looked like a really really!!?! good pvp fight and 2 red has the best healer ( maybe healers?) I ve ever seen
@aleejacopo It's a MTG style of play, unfortunately it doesn't balance as well as the card game, but it's still a blast when you master your builds.
hmm okey, i've watched and tried both gw and wow.. and i have to say that gw owns wow any day of the week.. The gameplay is awesome and the pvp excels..
SLot 1 W/E, Slot 2 W/Rt, Slot 3 R/W (nerfed), Slot 4 Me/Mo, Slot 5 Rt/N, Slot 6 Mo/W, Slot 7 Mo/W, Slot 8 Rt/A i believe thats there team set up

@MrRakah GW's PvP requires much more skill. Jumping isn't needed (it would be totally useless) in GW but it will be featured in GW2.
Press "B" while you are in an outpost or town. Than you can choose out of a selection of games and pick the one you wanted to see.

You have never played against rawr if you think downing one of them in the first minute under awowa and pound's watch is easy.
I remember I bought this when it launched.. I only got to rank 5, but it was very fun. There was no tournaments back then, only GvG and HoH with people like ThePowerOfMyRangers (or something like that) owning it all.
good ol' days.. too bad it took like an hour just to get a team to do HoH, too much waste of time.
rawr will stay in 1st place for a while because they are not GvGing on the main guild, they actively GvG on the EE.

damn i remember when Virtual Dragons and Rebels Rising dominated the GvG scene. where there was only the original GANK-Kamikaze Tactics guild and Lazy the biggest PvE alliance was. good times. best game ever played. i hope GW2 can at least reach the bar this awesome game set.

Funny how Jatt and Chop Chop went to LoL and both became 2 of the most famous LoL players in the world. I'd still say they accomplished more in rawr though.

If you've got the money you can get a level 20 character fully equipped and ready for pvp in a single day.
If you don't care about looks, you can just roll a "PvP Character" which is just ready to go in like 10 seconds.
If you don't care to buy GW's PvE, then you can buy the "PvP Access Kit" for only $20, and work to unlock pvp features on your own.

I want a change from WoW, after all these years you reckon it's still worth it picking up GW? How's the community? Is it still relatively big? I've heard it's one of the most balanced pvp games, and pvp is what I'm all about.
Both teams are extremely coordinated with excellent teamwork. A great match to watch and learn from.

And yes, I went through the game first and made a list of all of the spikes, and then on the recording take made sure the camera was on the targets
i feel like guild wars is so different from number 2 that you cant compare the two. Not in a bad way cause i feel like guild wars 1 will still be a largely populated game even after the released of number 2

Jose Diaz with edge of extinction planted right before an enemy dies :D Used to make the enemy team go BOOM!!. 3way maps was fun to watch all the xp coming in after hex/condition+EoE bomb.
Yes!, Then splits we're born to counter 8 vs 8 and force the opponent to respond! I wished game makers stopped dumbing down games for their greed... Same thing happend to RTS genre, specifically AOM series.. :(
