it's actually the same eqn that he derives later on. just instead of expanding (x-u)^t (x-u) as what he did, just realise it's a dot-product and expand it as such. Then ignore the quantities that are not a function of the class. That's it, you should get this easily.

how did we get equation of the discriminant function for case 1 8:40
