You are truly the best explainer on UA-cam for this stuff. I like that you actually show yourself doing all of the steps, you don't miss any out and that means that we don't either! Sometimes I look at your UA-cam library first before referring to a book on the subject, that is how good you are at this!
Thanks! I did not realize you could do the 30 samples off 3 worts, vs 30 different samples. My cheapo refractometer is dead on at zero. I tend to just use it on brew day to ensure that I am in the ballpark before my boil so I can adjust there if needed, then use a hydrometer reading going in to the fermenter as my "official" gravity reading (and volume measurement). Based on this info, maybe I will sit down and figure out my correction factor. I stumbled across your channel recently and thought was cool to see a woman brewing channel...and subscribed because you have a solid process and understanding of brewing.
I am new to brewing. I just received an alcohol refractometer. It does NOT say brix or SG wort. Mine says 20c at the bottom and says %v/v at the top. There is 1 line up the center that reads 0 to 80 with lines noted at every 10 count. No instructions so, I'm a little confused. Could you possibly help me to understand this one? Thank you for your time.🍻
Do you think correction made with DME is 100% identical made with all grain mash? I bought Kegland refractometer and read that some devices are wort corrected but I have no idea if this is or not.
@@FloraBrewing yup, I don't think this is either. Gonna do the initial WCF with DME and then continue adding the data with actual wort every brew I'll made. Thanks for the informative video. Kippis from Finland
It looks like to me that your first measurement was off by 1. The meter measured 18.3 not 17.3, See 4.56 on your timeline. Thank you for your great video.

Finally found what I was looking for here. Thank you!
Best explanation for how to accurately use a refractometer i've come across! Thank you so much!
Thanks for walking through the process. It really nips my refractometer calibration intimidation in the bud.
It's a pain in the ass but it shouldn't be scary. I'm avoiding calibrating a new one I just bought
Thanks, first video I see that fully explains how to use it.
I’m glad it helped!
Got my refractometer calibrated now! Thanks!
Great!

Honestly even if you dont use the correction it's only a point or two off usually.
I did not know that you use the refractometer for post fermentation. Thank you!
Hi ! Can we just use sugar instead of dme ?
Do you know you are becoming famous in Canada too,, Thanks for all your vids and helping new brewers.. cheers...
I need to make it up to y’all! WA is so close!
How do you calibrate your hydrometer?
such an informative video Sarah!
Excellent video!👍👍👍

I’m wondering if maybe it’s for distilling?

Interesting...it might be worth shooting them an email to see if theirs is. Mine is a crappy amazon one so there's NO WAY it would be

Thanks for the great video! I wondered if your new correction figure is different because you recalibrated the refractometer at the beginning?
I think I got a wonky one because the first time I did this I only used one wort for my readings. Different gravities is key.
Do you know you are getting to technical for me but I still like your vlogs nz Brewer.
Finally a video on how to do this for the homebrew thank you only ones I could find were for salt water
what is DME in the context of this video ? 1) Dried Malt Extract ; 2) DiMethyl Ether; 3) Diastatic Malt Extract;4).......
Dried malt extract

do you know that you are becoming famous in Italy?
That’s insane but appropriate because my new favorite beer is Italian Pilsner 😍
@@FloraBrewing yes, TIPO PILS by birrificio italiano
Hu, The hydrometer is less acurate from what I understand than a refractometer? This is totally backwards of the aquarium world.
Boring
