Summary of this episode:
First 4 minutes: Jared stores loot
Middle 20 minutes: Jared shoots dragon
Last 4 minutes: Jared buys arrows
_summary of the whole channel_
"I'm not really trying to speedrun this"
You're in no danger of that.
"I want to mess around, and experience everything"
[makes a party out of only two characters]
To be fair to Jared, that is a feature you can't experience in the normal FF4.
"I wonder if I should keep these two Dragon whips... the strongest whips in the game... for my two Rydias... and fight a boss where I can't use magic... Nah, Flame Rod"
I bet a super cut of every time Jared gets arrows throughout the years would show the 5 stages of grief.
You mean the “10 arrows” stages of grief
I appreciate how all the bosses in this game seem susceptible to slow. So often in JRPGs the bosses are just immune to status effects like that, but bosses are the only time I'd want to cast them. It's frustrating.
"Chaos Dunk" is a reference to the Barkley: Shut Up and Jam Gaiden game. It is a basketball dunk so powerful, it nuked the world.
I would LOVE to see Jared tackle Barkley Shut up and Jam Giaden.
@@flameingdaethfearies Seconded!
If only Jared had some kind of high damage, Excalibur-wielding Paladin who does 2500dmg a hit to fight the dragon with...
alas, he has a level 1 rydia. because apparently thats funny
A shame no such character exists in this game, and the Excalibur is just a junk item meant to be sold at the shop.
Gotta say this is a very interesting playthrough. It's like watching someone make all the opposite choices I would make, but still succeeding somehow. Frustrating but fascinating. You do you Jerd.
Its a good way to make sure my playthrough isn't exactly the same as *every other playthrough*
I dont understand some of the choices jerd makes, but i guess thats why I keep coming back.
This man, for a bit, spent an entire episode killing a dragon boss with just arrows instead of the 2 Heroine Robes and 2 Dragon Whips on the 2 Rydias. That's dedication.
Maybe too much dedication.
I was more focused on him not casting Blink on the Level 1 Rydia in the front row, since the only damage the boss was dishing out was physical.
@@gurvmlk That too, but then again he's been mostly ignoring positions. He's pretty consistently given the high physical armor gear to the characters in the back.
@@BigSlimyBlob I've said the same in another comment thread, but I feel like it's a case of him wanting Sexy Rosa to both be his most heavily equipped character, and also be the character in the lead position. Giving her all the main character privileges, while still using the party formation best suited to having so many magic-users.
@@gurvmlk Oh right, there's a "lead position" in this mod. I haven't seen all the details about that (I know NPCs explain these sorts of things), but I still think it's bizarre that you'd prefer to put good physical armor on the back row people. "Sexy Rosa" was already taking 1 damage from bosses, while the front row people take thousands. It'd take some weird mechanics for you to prefer to put Glass and Adamant gear on back row people rather than front row people.
@@BigSlimyBlob What I mean is that when you look at the save files in Final Fantasy 4, the character in the middle is put in the front. As opposed to most RPGs, that put the character at the top in the front. Whereas most RPGs simply position the characters on the save screen in order from top to bottom, FF4 lists them in the order of 3, 1, 5, 2, 4.
Pale Dim, is a dragon. Use a Rydia with a Heroine robe and a Dragon whip. Strong against Dragons. Also, Pale Dim counters regular attacks with slow. it does not counter special attacks, like Aim.
He should be using them with the Heroine and Dragon Whips anyways, honestly.
8:55 Run! it's a "Kweh-ake!"
"Chaos Dunk" was a reference to a Charles Barkley RPG where Michael Jordan is a super-villian and you fight shit like Wilford Brimley and the ghost of Bill Cosby and many sports themed random encounters.
Puts a level 1 Rydia in the FRONT row. Doesn't even question it. My god man.
She's gotta learn.
@@ProJaredPlays and it's that!👌🏾😂
wow, a minute in and a Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden reference with the Chaos Dunk. Amazing
argh beaten
I'm shocked Jerd hasnt heard of this before! now I want him to play it
Fun fact: Pale Dim reacts with Slow to Fight Command, but not to Aim Command. That's why the lack of slows previously!
He pronounced heroine correctly the first time.
If you want to sort your stuff in this game, you gotta do it manually. All the "sort" command does is group items like arrows and potions together (since this game doesn't do that automatically when you purchase them), and fill in any empty spaces in the item list.
As for that one Rydia not getting an action for so long, speed in this game is really weird. Yeah, there is a value that determines turn order, but the frequency of turns isn't so much about the time it takes for a gauge to fill like you would assume, but rather it's relative to the speed of the other characters in the battle. I discovered this when I was a kid, and I would sometimes mess around by going back to the beginning of the game, and have my team fight itself to see who would be the last man standing. And despite those bouts sometimes taking a few minutes to complete, the early game enemies would never get a single turn throughout the entire battle.
FYI, Adamant Armour + Cursed Ring = elemental magic heals.
weirdly in my own runs, the advanced preset flags and the omnidextrous flags, that combo doesn't work. (trust me i wanted it to work so badly for a beefed up rubicante fight in tower of babil x.x) Granted, still would be good for him to at least try the combo
@@Dawnseeker_Ch Weird, it should work, now I'm extra curious if it will work for Jerd.
8:50 "This will surely slay it.... AHHHHHH!"
0:20 thats a reference to charles barkley: shut up and slam gaiden, a hilarious little RPGmaker game, which is a post apocalyptic RPG about the world being destroyed by a chaos dunk
Hey Jared! love the videos by the way. Here's a tip. Ya might want to revisit the subterrain lake There's treasures behind the big waterfall. Happy hunting!
I'm sorry, what?
@@gurvmlk I fixed it. I made a mistake. Lol. My apologies Jared and to others for getting the dungeons mixed up.
@@Sprinkles_The_Husky My existential crisis of having not known about that my whole life has been averted. lol
"No more floor hazards, I can finally stop worrying about Float!"
White Dragon: "Hold my beer."
2:19 you can't just go without "BY THE LIGHT I KNOW THIS VILE DEMON"
I almost had a rage fit when Jared didn't equip Rydia with her best weapon in the game (the dragon whips). He had two, and was fighting a dragon who healed from most magic attacks. He had no excuse.
Chaos Dunk is from the Charles Barkley RPG that came out about 6 or 7 years ago. Oh my god that game came out 6 or 7 years ago already...
Their JRPG theme music starts with "Yume Sentai! Yume Sentai!"
They are like the magical girl version of the Power Rangers.
Except they all decided to wear the same weapon that day...
I really appreciate your goof party, Jared.
Good work!
"Your death-" walks into the level without finishing the line.
USE THE WHALE. LOL
Holy cow, it worked!
Thanks for the Diablo references.
In this episode: Shoot it until it dies.
Adamant armor combined with Cursed ring makes you absorb all elements instead of just blocking them.
It's so painful watching him not equip the dragon whips on Rydia since the loss in magic power is well worth the massive damage increase against dragons as well as chance to paralyze on hit. Also that Adamant armor is available in the normal game after you get Excalibur. You have to go to a very special spot on the way through to Zeromus. You battle pink puffs (very rare spawn) and get tails from them and give them to the guy in the grotto for more adamant which the man who made you Excalibur will make you adamant armor. Of course being everything is randomized you may not be able to do that though maybe you will find a store that sells it instead.
In most of these randomized games I've played, the game gives you plenty of adamant armors by the end (usually). Even when they don't appear in shops (which they do for me usually at some point since I randomize the shops), the game will usually give you at least five from chests and moon bosses.
The 1 in 256 chance to encounter a pink puff, then the 1 in 256 chance for them to drop a tail makes grinding those not worth it for most. Now could be wrong, could be 1 in 64 for both, but still lousy odds without rng manipulation.
@@callak_9974 For sure the odds are bad (don't remember what they exactly are) but the armor basically makes anyone wearing it a defensive god. If you are lucky then it trivializes pretty much any battle. It's worth getting one of for Rosa or Edge. Dupe and dart Excalibur makes the last battle a true snooze fest so a near indestructible Edge is a great time.
@@callak_9974 Using Sirens will guarantee pink puff battles as the rarest encounter available, and with there always being 5 of them in the battle, it's not as tedious to get one as you think.
with a stack of 99 sirens I have walked away with 4 pink tails and enough gil to sink the bismark.
The encounters do take a while tho
@@Azurus I don't recall this item called 'Siren' in the original snes release, or even in the PS1 port. Haven't played though other versions of FF4 like the gba or PSP. Could be wrong though, the game was released like 30 years ago.
You could use magic all you want if you cast float, then quake is worthless.
In Jared's mind, float is only used for bypassing damage tiles and also he thinks it's a single target only spell.\
@@AnnaBananya In his defense, he thinks all white magic spells are single target spells for some reason this run.
@@theleapinglupineIf I recall, he tried casting cure 2 on the party and couldn't find the button
@@superanimeniac Yep, I think it's cos he last played FF6, where it's the shoulder buttons that let you multicast if I remember right.
2 rydias in one row and 3 rosas in another :D
What a fun episode! Keep up all the hard work Jared, you got this! The exploring and seeing what's around is great. Definitely more about the Journey than the Destination in this playthrough
Regular Rydia is like that runt kitten that's too feeble to properly feed herself.
Never thought i'd see a party of Rosas and Rydias
lol one interesting thing about the randomizer is getting to see a lot of the enemy/boss attacks that are rare or usually unused in the regular game. Who knew Pale Dim can just yeet out a party wiping quake lol
anyone who cast a summon on pale dim before.
Jared: you have one lit arrow left
Me: of course she needs it to smoke weed
The hand in which you put the arrow and the bow matters for attack power. The arrows should be in the character dominant hand. So for Radya you've put it in reserve, she has the bow in her dominant hand which result in a lower attack power.
Jared has Cecil Paladin on the sideline...and a Crystal sword in a chest he got like 11 episodes ago and died...then didn't get it again...if only. This boss would have taken...maybe five minutes.
Jerd: (equips a bow on L1 Rydia)
Me: AAAAGH
No joke, even though it was a response to magic, I was so clenched during that second Leviathan fight that Quake was gonna party wipe Jared at any moment. Intense.
This is my second real playthrough of the randomizer and I did get spoiled with being able to buy carrots the first time on the world map.
Keeps a FIRST level character in the front row for a boss and wonders how she's KO'd at the end???
Dude if you haven't tried Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden, I highly recommend it. It's a relatively old indie RPG, freeware, and it's surprisingly as fun as it is funny. Could make for a good let's play
Subverting expectations by fully embracing archery, uh? 🏹
Thanks for the PTSD reminding me there will never be another good diablo game..
is LP is a treasure :-)
Oops All Rosas is starting to fall off a bit I think
And of course Level 1 Rydia died right as the fight ended.^^
Almost as if she had been put in the front row where she was extra vulnerable to dying. :D
With only 30HP I don't think putting her in the back would've made much of a difference.^^
@@riemaennchen Probably not, but it's still silly for her to be in one of the front line spots. 🙂
@@y2a1979 almost like getting rid of a paladin with a great sword just for a laugh came back to bite him
@@riemaennchen Hit points don't matter if you cast Blink.
speaking of diablo, if you every need an idea for a stream diablo 1 the beelzabob mod might be interesting
Baron town has a shop you can open, and it has a chest you can get (if it's not empty). Might be worth checking out?
Tomba!
Everyone can use adamant armor.
Pale Dim, is a white dragon. Dark Elf dragon is a Dark dragon, weak to holy.
So I kinda think sexy Rosa could do a fair bit of tanking now.
Now *that*...Is a BIG...Mushroom...
=3
That’s what she said
On my last run of Free Enterprise, i found out that you can brute force the unwinnable Dark Elf battle. He isnt very fast, and his absurd Melee can be nuliffied with Blink and his quakes can be nulified with Float. You can kill him, he has 65k Hp.still wont advance the event and talking to the elf after winning he just starts the battle again.
Make sure you have 2 diamond shields in the final battle
Jared: *hovers cursor over best whip in the game with two Rydias in the party* Should I sell these?
This is why I watch 😂
I wish they expanded the available inventory. It's a solid 20+ slots too small, even if there is the Fat Chocobo.
Had he not held 8 different, worthless claws, arrows, armors, etc. He'd have more than enough room lol.
Sort of, although if you aren't a hoarder like Jared, it's not so bad most of the time. lol
@@y2a1979 It's not bad for the base game because you have a set progression. In a randomizer, you tend to hoard a lot more because you aren't sure who will be in your party and how many of them.
@@MrKlarthums Fair, although now that he's had mostly the same group all game, there's a lot of stuff that could've been stored for a while now.
I have Hoarding Disease, so I don't like it when games have finite inventory.
I feel like this has become Final Fantasy 4 randomizer: 10 arrows edition.
Was that a motherfucking Barkley's Shut Up and Jam Gaiden reference!!?? Also, play Barkley's Shut Up and Jam Gaiden, I know you'll love it.
Personally I would have given the Adamant armor to child Rydia so she doesn't hopefully go down so easily...
isnt Chaos Dunk what happened in Shut up and Jam Gaiden?
So does the Adamant armor plus a Cursed ring make that character immune to elemental damage?
had to watch full fight
All the 10 Arrows! Get all the 10 Arrows!
Wasn't pale dim the second form of the dark elf?
It normally guards one of the "super" weapons on the way to Zeromus, if I recall correctly.
@@y2a1979 ah, well I'm used to more modern translations of FFIV so I wasn't sure
@@MrKeyblademaster1992 Its sprite *is* a palette swap of the Dark Elf's dragonish form, if I'm remembering right -- so getting them mixed up makes sense.
@@FnrrfYgmSchnish That is indeed correct.
8:55
Pale Dim: “OK, wise guy.”
what's the game that jared keep quoting with "RELOAD!RE-RELOAD!"?
God, I love ya vids~
So he just doesn't unequip the bows for the memes at this point, right..?
Of course you need more heroine, makes brain happy
The Boomers among us appreciate 2:10-2:20. Let me add \“I’m not Thirsty” 2:10-2:20
FF IV
Dude, if you don't get some more reliable damage dealers you're going to have a miserable time against the final boss. Also, fair warning, the Adamant armor is bugged, if you put it on a character and then take it off, that character will PERMANENTLY be weak to every element for the rest of the game. Not sure if the randomizer fixed that or not.
This no physical character party is silly.
It's all about that late game payoff (if green rydia ever gets levels)
What do you mean? Sexy Rosa definitely is a fighter!
It's annoying, even if its for "the memes". This is the least watchable lets play I think Jared has ever done. Just annoying as shit to watch all around. (I say this as a fan in general)
I wonder of making the worst decisions is part of a bit, or thats his "ProJared Plays" character.
Im going to choose to believe that he is dumb in character, rather than kind of a dumbass in person.
CAN WE ALL AGREE TO PESTER JARED ABOUT BARKLEY, SHUT UP AND JAM: GAIDEN UNTIL HE GIVES IT A LOOKSIE?
He needs to c'mon and slam and walk up to the jam.
