Rah takta hai sab shehar-e-janaan chalo.
Go as the city of my beloved is waiting..
Hakim-e-shehar bhi, Majma-e-aam bhi..
City’s ruler and crowd of commoners..
Teer-e-ilzam bhi, sang-e-dushnam bhi..
Arrow of false charge, stone of accusation..
Subh-e-nashaad bhi, roz-e-naakaam bhi..
Morning of sorrow, day of failure..

Such beautiful poetry - sadly, our younger generations are not being equipped to read, understand and appreciate these maestros - Iqbal, Faiz, Rashid, even Faraz. In this background, kudos to young artists like QB, Bayaan, Ali Sethi and others who are revisiting these classics and reintroducing our younger generations to real poetry.

You've painted the younger generation with quite a broad brush. I am from this generation and have read quite a bit of Iqbal, Ghalib, Faiz, Meer, Faraz, Joun, Jalib and one of my most favourite Perveen Shakir. While I agree that there are many in the younger generation who are not as well informed about the masterpieces of our linguistic heritage, it is still quite wrong to make a generalised statement. You do realise that according to your parent's generation you were also not as informed and appreciative of classical poetry as them. This is the complaint of every generation towards their youth.

جب فیض کو لاہور کی جیل سے زنجیروں میں جکڑ کر، گلیوں سے گھوڑا گاڑی (تانگے ) پر دانتوں کے ڈاکٹر کے پاس لے جایا جا رہا تھا تو لوگوں نے انہیں پہچان لیا ، اوران کے تانگے کے پیچھے چل پڑے۔ اس احساس کا اظہار انہوں نے اس نظم کے ذریعے کیا۔

I must say I'm blessed to understand Sir Faiz Ahmad Faiz's poetry since my teenage years. I found this gem in Nayyara Noor's voice years ago. I love every version of this either from Bayaan, Shey Gill, or QB. All have done a great job.
