  • In November of 1989 my grandfather was asked to be a guest on the Tonight Show. It was a great honor for him. After the show aired, we received calls from all over the United States from customers that have stopped by our restaurant through the 84 years of its operation in LeCompte. Enjoy - Toby Traylor

This is what made Carson's show so good. Regular people doing interesting things not just celebrities selling their movie.

Lea was my great great uncle. His wife georgia was my pawpaw Larry's aunt on his father's side. I was 10years old when he passed. I don't remember him very well, but I do remember his voice, very well

I remember listening to people in his generation when I was a kid.
I could listen to them forever.
    It was like hearing poetry.
    He's got an awesome personality.

Johnny was such a class act to have fine, salt-of-the-earth people like Lea Johnson on his show. You can see how he treats Lea with a perfect mix of respect and wisecracking in order to help bring out the best of his wonderful personality. He was sincere about promoting everyday people. I live in Baton Rouge and have always enjoyed stopping by Lea's... now every time I stop by I think of Johnny teasing Lea and Lea coming back with an "I declare!" Timeless treasure!

      I live in Gonzales, Louisiana.
I went for lunch at Lee's Lunchroom when I went to a certification class at LSU'S Alexandria campus.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere, not to mention the food was great.
I wish I could have met Mr. Johnson.
My cousin served in the Navy with Johnny Carson. I wish I had made arrangements so my cousin could see the show in person.
Thank you for sharing this information.

I’ve eaten at Lea’s several times. I always get me some chocolate meringue pie. Meringue so high it looks like an overstuffed pillow. Love the way Mr.Lea went from table to table asking all if we like the food. Some just plain visiting too.

It's off Interstate 49, East Side in Louisiana, just South of Alexandria LA.
I never knew he was on the tonight show.
We loved him and his Restaurant! We are from Baton Rouge and past his place on almost every trip we took to NW Louisiana. I wish we could print pictures, I certainly would post one.
Thanks for the memories Lea Johnson!

@@uppercutgrandma4425 Not only do they make and serve world famous pies, they also make the quintessential ham sandwich, and whenever Grandpa ordered one, he ordered a glass of buttermilk with it. So when Grandpa and his boys walked in, Mr. Lea would great him with, "Oh, Butttermilk!"

The earth, for example, could not have just created itself. It has to
have been formed by a creator. Take a building for instance: How can I know
that the building has a "builder"? I can know just by the simple fact
that the building is there. It could not have just built itself up by itself.
The same standard applies to the earth and the rest of creation.
