After watching this video last year I decided to try using synthetic hair and I think it was just like human hair. I’m very particular about the feel of the hair so I found something that felt JUST LIKE human hair or as close as possible. I REFUSE to pay someone else to do something I know I can do on my own. You have to treat synthetic hair like you would a human hair. I didn’t care that I can’t color them I literally only wanted them til my hair loc’d and grew to the length I wanted. When I say I received soooo many compliments. I even had a few people ask me to do theirs. I never had any issues with them sticking together. It didn’t feel too much heavier then what regular locs would feel like. I got a couple of different colors and taught myself how to add and remove the color once I got tired of it. I used synthetic hair for loc extensions. I used kinky hair which doesn’t stick together as bad. I would recommend making sure you use a .5 mm crochet tool and make sure your loc extensions are very tight to prevent sticking. I palm roll them and use leave in to help with the texture. I don’t plan on wearing these forever though. Maybe about a year.
I'm so glad you made this video cause i was thinking about doing my own dreads but wondering about the use of synthetic hair-no one is talking about it.It would tick me off to spend all that time and waste my money to have to take them out cause it looked like i was trying to rock a bird's nest on my head-Not Cute!!!! Thank you for making this video- I’ve been looking everywhere for info on this! I installed faux locs on my relaxed hair by sectioning it and using loose castor oil soaked rubber bands for the initial hold. I then Crocheted marley and water wave human hair to each- not too much or too heavy so they don’t add any tension to my scalp (and so as they grow out they won’t be fatter than the hair growing out of my scalp) The marley hair does stick a bit, but I wrap or cut off the fly always and rewrap the loc by adding a human hair and/or just palm roll them. My relaxed hair sometimes separates and I have to wrap it back into the loc and add some additional Marley to keep them infused with the loc. Each loc is a little different- some are curlier, some are straight, some look fresh and some look older, but I like the textures mixed together. I don’t use any heavy products only sea breeze mixed with water on the locs to keep them clean and a light scalp oil. I’ve added some color because I used a 1B/30 & 1B/27 Marley hair. It’s taken 2 months for them to loc up and bud; the important thing has been not washing them, no heavy water on them so they don’t come undone. I’m waiting to twist my new growth until the locs are more set. Overall, I love them and it still a loc journey!

AJAE LOX my name is mariah Hutton and i have permanent synthetic dreadlock extensions I'm going to be two years locked on February 9th 2018. I've had my ups and downs with them. But overall I like them. You should check out my channel Mariah Hutton. As they've gotten older I can do a lot more with them they're a lot more flexible and stuff like that. But I don't just have synthetic all in my hair anymore. In November of 2016 I had my sister wrap human hair from the roots all the way down the locs. And that helped out a lot. And since then I've been cutting an inch off of the synthetic dreadlock extensions every month. My hair has grown about 10 in within those two years I'm going to be locked. I mean what works for me may not work for other people. But even in the beginning I didn't like them I still stuck with them because it was something I had to do. And I'm glad I did it showed me patience wish I didn't have before. Also there a lot less heavier then when I had all synthetic in because I cut most of the synthetic off now I am passing shoulder length and I still have maybe an inch or two to cut off of the synthetic dreadlocks extensions. Don't get me wrong know when I was getting my hair done I went into the shop ask for all human hair. I I asked the lady if this is all human hair she goes yes this will best match your texture of your hair. So 8 hours later I smelled burning and she was dipping them in hot water. I was very disappointed I should have said something but I didn't want to sit there for another 8 hours I had to go home I lived about 3 hours away. But I just don't with it and kept them in anyways and yes I've had my bad days but now that my natural hair has locked in my head it's been a lot easier and it looks way more natural. I've had to do a lot of Maintenance against look how it looks. Lol but it was nothing I couldn't handle. So please yes check out my page I subscribe to you can you please subscribe to me too thanks.

Thank you. Having mine don't with synthetic hair this morning. The stylist doing my hair says its all she uses & clients love it. So, I feel the hair does play a factor. Great video. Pray for me😊
@@navernkruz6335 U started my first set of locs with synthetic hair and had no problems, really. Just treat then like your own hair. After a year or even before that, make sure to cut them off. Some persons may get away with two years though. Ensure you go to someone who knows what they are doing though. Only two come is : They are a bit heavy especially after washing and they get itchy. Be sure to soak in vinegar b4 seeing them and wash then once every two weeks after installation.
I'm using the model model pre-made synthetic dreads to install my permanent locs until my hair grows out some more. I'm almost finished because I had to stretch the installation out over 3 days. So far they're not sticking together and I like what I'm seeing so far. The human pre-made dreads though worth it, are just too costly for something I plan on cutting out once my hair grows some more. I once drained the hot water and then got distracted with kiddos and let them cool in the pot 🥴 lesson learned lol

I was thinking about getting some installed until my own hair locks and grows more so my actual locks have more length and then I could just cut the fake ones out or is this a bad idea if they can't fuse together?
Hey Queen. So I did my loc extensions with Marley hair. I didnt experience the issues that you did thank goodness or i would've cut them out too. I have a question & anyone who reads this can answer if relatable... Were you able to create waves/twist out look with the synthetic set? I tried once & it didnt work. Maybe I didnt leave my hair twisted long enough? Idk🤷🏼♀️
@@tearakumar4909 tbh, I don't know. It probably don't because the chemicals are different for real hair & synthetic🤷🏽♀️? Could that be the reason that it didn't wave up when I tried?
This is an affordable idea but I personal don't like that synthetic hair holds on the outside smells to easily. Even if I wash it as soon as I go outside the hair smells differently because of outside idk how to explain it lol but that doesn't happen with real hair.
i understand what you are saying about the pros/cons, but what if you are buying loc extensions that are human hair/synthetic hair mix for the sole purpose of starting your locs and after a period of six months you cut the extensions away. I ask because I ordered 10" loc extensions in the color of 33, (so my natural locs grow I can dye my hair that color), will it work????
So wait... Those are synthetic? Wow I really cannot tell whatsoever that your love were synthetic. I'm thinking of doing my own locs too because I cannot afford to get them done
Hi so I understand the cons especially with the sticking. Sooo I took crochet faux locks and I seen a way to make them look natural. I did it a quick way were I took two strand of hair and looped one thru the faux lock loop hole and the other out from there I braided over the faux lock and they look real until close up ofc cas then you see the braid in of my hair over the lock. So do yu think that my hair could lock onto it that way. I don’t wanna take them out honestly cas I wanna try and have beautiful locks but ughh idk if I can wash this stuff or if it’ll cause more mating or sticking to get her in other words.
I usually don’t like extra commentary, but the multiple “no’s” ending with “Bruh” cracked me all the up...bcuz I can relate. I did the same thing i.e., researched and found a better alternative....as in buying afro kinky bundles (two bundles $60 total, bcuz I had a bundle from before...and making and installing my own human hair handmade-locks with shaved sides). I saved on barbers by buying clippers and teaching my daughter to shave my sides.
I KNOW THIS IS OLD. But, I’m just starting my loc’s it’s been 4 weeks 2 weeks from the start I had to get a re-twist. My hair is a little short, not pix but not pass my ears. I’m wanting to get box braids for a while till it maybe grow out. What’s you take on that?
I did locs last year and took them out to redo them and I cut mine 😢I didn’t have to but I just wanted a fresh start. My advice would be manipulate it to stretch it as much as possible to get the box braids for about a month or two and then do the synthetics
You can two strand twist your hair and it will loc up. The twist will get a bit puffy first then it should shape more into a loc as time goes on. It can take quite a few months, depending on your hair, for your hair to loc the natural way.
If you start them as double ended dreads, eventually it will start to form as a single loc at the base then will fan out into a double ended dread at the end. So it will pretty much look like an upside down “Y”. as long as your base is strong enough to support the weight, nothing will happen, you’ll just have a set of really cool locs!
Amazon has human afro kinky bulk hair for all different prices starting at $15 dollars, I think it's important what u put in your hair if it's permanent I think it should be human, I'll be putting a link in the comments for other women cause u can tell the difference, it feels different, this is your hair lady's don't go with it cause it's cheaper you can get a low grade of human afro hair from tall types of thick, beautiful SOFT hair that will blind with that beautiful full thick hair, I will be posting my video of my journey with human hair to
Hello how you doing I have one important question and I’m just curious and I really don’t know does the permanent loc extensions grow with your hair meaning when it’s loc already on your head do the extension hair grow long like your normal hair do with your locs to please let me know.
Ok so the way it works is you fuse the extension to your natural hair using a crochet needle. Eventually, the extension will loc onto your hair mailing it permanent. Your real natural hair will continue to grow from the root and that’s where your hair growth will come from. So pretty much the loc extension is giving you a head start when it comes to length (but the continued growth will come from your real hair at the scalp). I hope that makes sense.
My con was after washing them they became so heavy my neck was hurting. N the smell if you Dnt fry dry them🤢 plus the heavyweight droops your face n pulls down the opposite way then wht you want especially over time. You go from china eyes to Japanese eyes 😂 but seriously n they was shoulder length

Idk🤷🏼♀️
I did....I twisted it and dipped it in hot water. Worked like a charm!
Did your natural hair fuse with it?
@@tearakumar4909 tbh, I don't know. It probably don't because the chemicals are different for real hair & synthetic🤷🏽♀️? Could that be the reason that it didn't wave up when I tried?
@@miriamnishalibertbain6349 are yours synthetic or real loc extensions?
I would use rollers or twist/braid my hair and leave it for a few days to a week and it worked I also used a blow dryer when I lost patience 😅
I swear that was just so helpful. Cuz i did this multiple times but took it out like ehhh idk. Thank you.
Glad i could help😁
She's finishing up now. So far so good. I just have to learn how to style my hair.
Omg! How exciting! Welcome to the loc life!!
The Cons are wild as hell😂😂😂
I'm loving your content, I can literally relate to all your loc videos!!
Thank u so much! U totally just made my day!!😁
AJAE LOX Aww!😊
EXACTLY like every video I watch she answers all my questions! love it!
soak in vinegar for itching and you can stain theh air with henna dye im a cosmetologist we learn how to tint syntheitcs
and my hair fused already after 1 year i use malibu kinky twist hair 613 blonde
I have in those also... Almost 6 months in my journey, will try colouring in the morning
Your locs are naturally beautiful
Awesomeness! I will look for Human hair gray for a few short locs in front for only 20 #microbraids #microlocs #diylocs #sisterlocks
This is an affordable idea but I personal don't like that synthetic hair holds on the outside smells to easily. Even if I wash it as soon as I go outside the hair smells differently because of outside idk how to explain it lol but that doesn't happen with real hair.
I was able to get human kinky hair bulk from my local hair store for my locs it was only $16 for 1 pack.
What is the name of the hair you bought?
@@godivagoddess25 IBIZA
Girl u were scammed
$16 for one PACK???
@@GreenBanana675 1 pack made 60 locks
Omg the price I was quoted for extension was ridiculous. I'm trying to pay off my house so i took the cheaper route and used synthetic.
Thank you for this video you are correct, nothing on UA-cam on this subject.
i understand what you are saying about the pros/cons, but what if you are buying loc extensions that are human hair/synthetic hair mix for the sole purpose of starting your locs and after a period of six months you cut the extensions away. I ask because I ordered 10" loc extensions in the color of 33, (so my natural locs grow I can dye my hair that color), will it work????
You should be ok if you’re only keeping them for 6 months
@@AJAELOX Thank you do much!!♥️
That hair color looks stunning on you. Great color choice ♥
So in 2019 what’s the update on your synthetic loc extension
Agreed
So wait... Those are synthetic? Wow I really cannot tell whatsoever that your love were synthetic. I'm thinking of doing my own locs too because I cannot afford to get them done
The Hair I’m using is human hair. But yes, they are permanent loc extensions
It is and my hair looks fabulous 🎉
JESUS BLESS HER SOUL FOR THIS VIDEO
I usually don’t like extra commentary, but the multiple “no’s” ending with “Bruh” cracked me all the up...bcuz I can relate. I did the same thing i.e., researched and found a better alternative....as in buying afro kinky bundles (two bundles $60 total, bcuz I had a bundle from before...and making and installing my own human hair handmade-locks with shaved sides). I saved on barbers by buying clippers and teaching my daughter to shave my sides.
You are so gorgeous 😍
Can you do a video showing how to make the extensions with that hair😍😍😍
I have a video on how to make loc extensions, the Link is in the description bar. The method is the same for human hair and synthetic hair 😁
Thank u sooo much you've answered a lot for me
Glad i could help. Thank you for watching
Did you dip it in hot water to not stick together
Is it possible to just 2 strand twist the hair in with yours and just let it do its thing or do you have to make loc extensions
I think as long as it’s human hair it will loc. However, I’ve never seen it done so I’m not sure how the end results will look.
You can two strand twist your hair and it will loc up. The twist will get a bit puffy first then it should shape more into a loc as time goes on. It can take quite a few months, depending on your hair, for your hair to loc the natural way.
What color and brand are you wearing in your hair in this video ?
I agree who cares about the dye
I’m making my locs too.
Niiiiice!
Hi, I’m asian and I love dreadlock, but I dont know any culture problem if i wear dreadlock? 😅😅
What would happen if u left double end dreads in permanently??
If you start them as double ended dreads, eventually it will start to form as a single loc at the base then will fan out into a double ended dread at the end. So it will pretty much look like an upside down “Y”. as long as your base is strong enough to support the weight, nothing will happen, you’ll just have a set of really cool locs!
Amazon has human afro kinky bulk hair for all different prices starting at $15 dollars, I think it's important what u put in your hair if it's permanent I think it should be human, I'll be putting a link in the comments for other women cause u can tell the difference, it feels different, this is your hair lady's don't go with it cause it's cheaper you can get a low grade of human afro hair from tall types of thick, beautiful SOFT hair that will blind with that beautiful full thick hair, I will be posting my video of my journey with human hair to
Link?
Were you able to take the synthetic hair out without cutting your hair? Is it possible to comb them out?
Yes, i was able to comb them out
I have a question how u feel about Afro hair or Cuban twist
I just bought Cuban twist hair. Want to know the same thing before I make and install:(
Thank you so much for this video!
Very helpful! Thank you
I wonder if I can use pipe cleaners to curl the synthetic locs like I do my real locs?
Good question! If u find out the answer let me know
Did you find out??
Yes if you dip them in hot water
AJAE LOX Oh okay thanks so the permanent locs extensions doesn’t grow like your normal hair when is connected together.
Exactly
Can you wash them?
Absolutely
Great video!
Oh so you can lock them
My con was after washing them they became so heavy my neck was hurting. N the smell if you Dnt fry dry them🤢 plus the heavyweight droops your face n pulls down the opposite way then wht you want especially over time. You go from china eyes to Japanese eyes 😂 but seriously n they was shoulder length
Can you wash it
How long did these last
I was good until you said your hair still don't grow!! That hurt me .😪😪
So what human hair to use
THANKYOU 💕💕💕💕🦋
What about starting with kinky twist??
I have no idea. I know you can start authentic locs with 2strand twists but I’ve never seen it done with loc extensions
Thank you for this video
Thank you for watching😁
Someone quoted me $1,000.00.
That sounds about right (depending on length and how many you want). It can get VERY expensive
Carlicia Alexander 😦😦😦😦😦 Wow...that's expensive.
Yup. Mine cost that amt. Worth it all!
Carlicia Alexander same
Yours are so beautiful though
Thank u❤️
It does look real
great video sis
Thank u luv❤️
Thanks
I like your hair.
Pretty smile
how many locs do you have in?
That’s a good question. I think around 140ish. Not sure of the exact number though I’ll have to count them 😁
AJAE LOX thanks for answering my questions. Your hair is lovely and full just like I want it. I'm glad you were able to achieve this with 6 bundles of the hair from macon cuz I actually thought I would need twice as much. Good luck with the channel and I hope it continues to grow 💙.
Thank u so much for your love and support ❤️
Thanks for your support ❤️
synthetic is simply not real . be who you are . end of the conversation.
So what
Then that should also apply to you
I have a question how u feel about Afro hair or Cuban twist
Great video!
I have a question how u feel about Afro hair or Cuban twist
I have not tried either personally, but i have heard a few stories where the results came out nicely
I have used cubam twist and i loved it. Slightly shinier than human but just rinsed with apple cidar vinegar and voila! Perfection! Lighteight and no one can tell the differance. U can also use it inside a lock and wrap with human if money is an issue and u want to use the wrap method.
