@@chrisbraley nah it would be full of bullshit and most likely they would have to make gas powered to electric because carbon emissions on a show would be bad for business.
Joel, on the Missile Masters team, was a very good friend of mine. We met when we served aboard USS Yorktown in 1996. There was nothing he couldn't build, and he was one of the funniest guys I knew. Joel lost his battle with cancer a couple of years ago and watching this has me waxing nostalgic.
I loved this show as a kid! I remember recording these and bringing them to my daycare to watch during “movie time” but none of the other kids shared my enthusiasm.
I was ADDICTED to this show!!! I used to pray it would still be airing when I was old enough to compete. I looked forward to watching every single episode when it came out. You guys inspired me for so much in my life! From hobbies to my career!
That's very nice of you to say! we certainly didn't realize we were being inspirational back then, but it was a lot of fun filming the shows! Thx for watching!
This show kept me up back then when I had school in the morning. Now it's keeping me up and iv got to work in the AM. I'm loving it! The commercials too👍 Thank you!!
I kept thinking, "NOBODY throws away tires and wheels like that!"...as I realized this show was totally crafted in advance. And the likelihood of building a tractor in 10 hrs? Really?
An absolute time machine video! I loved this show even though they convienant hid all the needed parts out in the junkyard. They still needed a bunch of imagination and mechanical skill to pull off a win. Never missed an episode!
Super cool that you are uploading these episodes for us to enjoy. I was 10 years old when this episode came out and I remember looking forward to every Junkyard Wars episode. I'm sure it played a part in me ending up as an Aircraft Mechanic myself.
I was totally addicted to this show in my childhood! My father and I used to watch it together.. I wish if we had something similar here in India. Thanks and lots of love for sharing this.❤
This hit so hard in the nostalgia like so many others have commented. TLC was so great back then and I lived for this show having to watch live. Thanks for the blast from the past!
I actually apperciate the ads for once, brings back the memories of watching on TV, especially catching a marathon of these, I would look forward to it all the time
Hey Chasey this is Jeff from the jet doctors team. Yes I recorded our season on dvd when it aired 20 years ago. Funny thing is putting it on UA-cam now, I didn’t know how to edit out the old commercials and they end up being what people enjoy the most. Haha. Thx for watching!
Blast from the past!! I sincerely credit this show for my love of building stuff and becoming an auto mechanic and later on, an automotive instructor to HS students. Things like this inspired me.
Just finished the episode. This was the height of TLC. I LIVED this show. I used to pulley swap lawn tractors and go-karts after learning gear ratios and out of the box thinking from shows like this. Jeff, you did great and I hope this show can inspire kids today like it did to me when I was 16. I'm so curious to know what it was actually like on to compete. I have so many questions!
I’m so glad this popped up on my suggestion videos. I watched every single episode of Junk yard wars when it came out! This show inspired me in so many ways with what I do today!

I remember when this show was on the air. I think I knew at the time that it was staged, but I didn't care. The concept was cool. Now that I'm old, I've actually done some crazy crap like this, and I do think the show was part of the inspiration.
@@Sarah-hp2ty the builds were planned out ahead of time, with the materials, vehicles, and parts needed placed in the junkyard ahead of time to be "discovered" by the teams during the shoot.

It actually makes some sense that it turned out this way. If you ever messed around with Knex as a kid, you'll know that it's easier for a small gear to turn a big one than it is for a big gear to turn a small one, and smaller wheels get going more easily than big ones. Sure, big wheels are great for ground clearance and uneven terrain, but that doesn't matter on a flat dirt track. What matters is how much power you can put into the ground. Smaller tires do that better.
I used to watch this all the time as a kid! It was one of my favorite shows, and probably a part of the reason I'm so into building things today. Unfortunately this shows seems much more scripted and set-up than I remember. 😅 The commercials were also a good bit of nostalgia!

TLC actually used to be a watchable channel 😂
It turned into fat people, people sexualizing small children, and people drinking gasoline
Mostly watchable, except for a few shows here and there.

Junkyard Wars/Scrapheap Challenge, Mythbusters, Battle Bots and Dirty Jobs... Those were good times!

I think of it as a necessary "evil", if there are no running engines or tires in the yard, there is a pretty boring show!
What is it with you old farts starting fresh comments like you're answering a question no one asked :D Does it lend to credibility or something?
