Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Seems to all be in the drainage. I planted out 4 taiwaniana and one gracilis early doors this year. 2 of the taiwaniana are doing fine in soil and growing away. The 2 others and the gracilis I’ve had to pull back out and put back in perlite rich pots to hopefully save them!
Have you ever tried mixing compost with something like coir to remove the peat part? Do you mind sharing what brand of compost you use, or do you not think it matters?
Hi, we do use some peat free compost, but depends what plant it is With Schefflera for example, I’ve not found something that works as well as peat, but will keep trying, they are expensive plants to gamble with! I want to do some tests next year with easy cutting to see if I can get a mix that works as well as peat based
Thank you for the video, very helpful . I got a taiwaniana plug last year, it has survived the winter but hardly grown anything at all but I can see a lot of tiny leaves coming out. I am going to repot it now. I thought they like a slightly acid soil?
Yes, probably best option, replant when bigger Try copper tube around the base of the plant, slugs hate copper Also woodchips, they can’t move across them that well
Nice collection
Yes, great plants and I can’t help myself when I see something a bit different for sale!

Thanks for the comment
They can be a bit tricky when smaller
I lost a gracilis last year, got too wet thanks to a leaking gutter above it

It will be small if a plug
I don’t use anything special regarding ph with compost and they do fine
If it’s got small leaves count then it’s growing, so a good sign
@@montongarden thank you very much
Nice, especially the S. bodinieri. What's the plant at 8:00 to 8:06 please?
Hi, it’s another S.taiwaniana
My schefflera new growth keeps getting eaten by slugs so I’m thinking of digging it up.

@@montongarden thanks, I’ll try that
Tried this one in the Netherlands, died within a year. Poor drainage. Should have kept in a pot I suppose…
Like all plants, the bigger the better, but more so with this one, especially when it comes to drainage
