It'll be a different "sisterhood" than in the books though. The Bene Gesserit acted to progress the human race and to prevent another Butlerian Jihad happening. They ALWAYS operated in the shadows and NEVER sought glory or praise. They were often ruthless, cold and cruel but never vindictive.

Actually, there was quite a bit of tumult behind the scenes. Changes in showrunners, leading actors, and other creatives. Hence why the show went from being called Dune: The Sisterhood to Dune: Prophecy, this was likely done to more closely link it with the new films.
Yeah, quite the sad outcome from what I hear. A lot of drama. It was on a great, very different path for years. MAX really screwed up, nobody from actual Dune wanted to be part of this after getting burned. Classic Dune story though, years of development down the drain, again. True. And the quality of the special effects are not on par with the new movies, and the ship looks less "metallic", smoother, than the ones of the movies. On the other hand, I don't care as much about that, as about it building a good story, drama and atomsphere.

Exploring post- Butlerian Jihad history by depicting the rise of each of the major forces in the Dune universe is a great expanded universe strategy. After the sisterhood, I'd love to see the Mentats, Spacing Guild, Ixians, and Tleilaxu given their own series (maybe the last 2 share a series?).
I loved the new Dune, but I've read the book and seen the Lynch version several times so I understood the stuff they didn't explain. I wish they'd explained the Butlerian Jihad and what Mentats, the tattoo of imperial conditioning, etc. just so newcomers would find it more accessible. I also missed the narration of inner monologue like Lynch.
You're not going to see any of that. Even though those previously mentioned groups are just as interesting they don't fit the "popular politics" of today. Bro how many dunes are they gonna make???
I'm a little surprised that technology/society/family names haven't changed AT ALL in 10,000 years, but this is the duniverse so who knows what's possible
I also dont like that in worldbuilding when it comes to these books, like Asoiaf for example. But in Dune, it's actually a main theme explicitly told by Herbert. The first 10k years humanity explored and advanced beyond imagination. Then, after the Butlerian Jihad and the rebellion of machines, the Corrino Empire was stablished and the human civilization got limited by a feudal system. Thats why the next 10k years humanity embrace stagnation, a state of no exploration or evolution beyond spice, a state that would cause extinction. Thats why Leto II did what he did, the Golden Path, opress humanity for centuries so one day, the whole race would want anything but opression, embracing liberty and curiosity to expand beyond imagination, for humanity to reach eternity, to grow in trillions and live forever
In a society such as this it doesn't surprise me that they've kept their family names. It's clear that these family's hold an immense amount of power and history, and changing that name would separate them from that heritage.
That's weird to me cause in the books the family names and even the planet names have changed significantly over the coarse of a thousand years
Good cast, but it looks a bit cheap, especially for HBO. And a bit too soon for a prequel. Idk why... this trailer didn't really excite me much and I loved dune books and movies.

Between star wars acolyte and dune prophecy, i think i know what im going to watch.
One of the sisters actually looks like a young Charlotte Rampling who plays Reverend Mother Mohiam
They may live extended lives, but I don't think any of them are 10,000 years old.
@@terrib627 Lol absolutely not. Even the God Emperor 'only' lasted 3,500 years
10,000 years before and tecnology is exactly the same?.......
Plss if they ever do in the future the CHILDREN OF DUNE and GOD EMPEROR DUNE Make it the best of the best,
THE INDIAN ACTRESS TABU WILL BE IN THIS SHOW AS WELL! I'M EVEN MORE EXCITED BECAUSE OF HER!
Exactly!!!!!!!
Hey kayefbutterfly, Why are we getting soo many good shows in these few months. Fallout tv series came out last month, and then now we are getting dune tv series.and house of dragons s2. And also rings of power s2. But im not hyped or excited for that shoe because the first season according to many say it sucked. But theres been a dune tv series before. In the early 2000’s right?
@@thegrandmaguswhy is this indian actress special what movies is she in?
@@ukrainefighter2456 She's a legendary actress from India I can't name her movie in India there are lot but she in Life of Pi...
@@tussarhajong5775 what exactly is her name again?🤔
I'm proud for Emily Watson. For years, she has consistently give good performances throughout her incredible career beginning with Lars Von Trier's Breaking The Waves, she never missed a beat when it comes to her acting skills. In my opinion, she's one of the most underrated acting legend of all time so to see her leading the Dune series is absolutely incredible. Go Emily!!! 🙌🙌🙌
In God's Creature, she was phenomenal or in Equilibrium even if it was a smaller role
*She is an undeniable talent. I'm watching this because of her and Olivia Williams, another great actress.*
@@KitKat0nly God's Creatures was great, I love her and Paul Mescal together in that movie. She gave a quiet subtle performance so flawlessly
She’s always been great!
Yes!!! I'll watch this one solely because of her. Though, the show looks nice already
This year in TV is more exciting than the movies this year
Aint no way this is better than dune part 2
Bro stfu and read the comment again never said this was better than dune 2
Oh boy... I'm getting Acolyte vibes...
If Brian Herbert has taught me anything, there's not much to tell in a prequel to Dune.
Yes, this is how you expand the source material. This, pay attention Amazon, works.
I would reserve total judgement like that until we actually see what the story is like.
lol you might be speaking a bit soon....
Alison Schapker is the showrunner. Look what she did to Altered Carbon and West World. I have no faith in this show. I like the idea, but they couldn't have picked a worse person to lead this project.
I may be a major dune fan, but if there's one thing I know after marvel is less is more, and I really hope this show is either a masterpiece or a flop so they'll stop
It’s HBO.
Come on, its just ONE show lol They haven't announced anything else and Dune Messiah is at least 5 years out.
There's next to no danger of Dune becoming like MCU.
Marvel has 30 projects and dune’s current revival including this has 3. And it’s all based on books (of varying quality) so I highly doubt they’d turn into marvel
@@k--music Not saying they'll turn into something just like Marvel, but I'd still rather stray away from spin off shows
@@OfficialArkoMotions this is the equivalent of adapting fire and blood into house of the dragon it’ll be fine, if anything it has a chance to improve on those prequel books
Dune had a real short run by the looks of it.
"Sisterhood above all"
So they called it Dune Prophecy instead.
0:57 so that's how everything started, with a sister of the Bene Gesserit part of the Harkonnen's. I hope this prequel explain how it started the conflict between House Harkonnen and House Atreides
The atreides and Herkommen have already been at each others throats for about 150 years at the time of this show.
The feud began at the Battle of Corrin, where Vorian Atreides banished Abulurd Harkonnen for cowardice. Vorian wanted the attack the planet head on, knowing that the billions of hostages would die, but Abulurd stoped that from happening
this is 10,000 years in the past, I doubt it will have any bearing on the current atreides/harkonnen conflict
@@liampugh although Brian and Kevin have thoroughly desecrated Frank Herbert’s universe with all their retconning, the family feud lasting 10k years is one of the sillier things that was there from the very first book.
@@liampughIdk about that, my sister can hold a grudge for a very long time 😅
@@PaulSteereI suppose you haven't heard of the Middle east! The have a grudge that last for centuries, even more!
New Dune adaption: 😍
Its Brian Herbert: 💀
You win the comments section! 😂
Lisan al Gaib! 🗣
Alison Schapker as the showrunner. Please cancel this now. Don't let her do to Dune what she did to Altered Carbon.
I liked Altered Carbon season 1. Then I started watching season 2 and bailed after only 10 mins. lol
