They also helped me get a bit more comfortable with taking my 6mo MalxGSD puppy around the local park to socialize her and know what behaviours to correct her on and how to not make it worse with accidentally reinforcing them. Dog parks are the worst place to bring a puppy. They will just learn bad behaviors. You want your puppy to have good experiences and interact with calm dogs.
The owners shouldn’t let their dogs congregate at the entrance and gang up on the incoming dogs. That husky did nothing wrong. If you know anything about huskies, they have a play style that might seem “dominant “ because they love to jump on top of each other.

I think people are quicker to use words like 'dominant' and 'aggressive' with Rottweilers as they've been so stigmatised for decades, so any slight behaviour that isn't 100% quiet, docile and calm is automatically perceived as something threatening. The fact they're a big, muscular dog as well tends to also make people overly cautious with them and again, use words that may not be quite accurate.

Thats a beautiful and smart Rottie! Great to see a well raised dog. What a lovely dog. Dogs like the huskie and unfortunately majority of GSD are too confident and in other dogs faces. Something about the GSD breed or overbreeding, has caused the slim genetic pool and a lot of insecurity that goes with it.

It's great to see how close attention you pay to your dogs and correct them. I've had a low of reactions since I have small dogs where people think it's cute when their small dogs are misbehaving. It's really not. My pug used to love going to the park but he got chased a six month old puppy where he literally jumped up into my arms terrified, I didn't know pugs could jump like that. Then the dog is still jumping up on me trying to get him.

He knows his dogs. It’s literally the reason why he doesn’t worry about putting them into situations that most dogs would stress in. He trusts and believes in his own dogs, he knows what they can and can’t handle, you’d know yourself Ronin was correcting bad dogs at 12 mnths old not him or the owner of bad dogs. He is miles ahead of us, you put in the time that he has with his dogs, with your dog and you’ll end up with something like Ronin (plus being a malinois helps he’s already thinking 10 steps ahead of every dog at every park and even sometimes a step ahead of his owner)

my fave dog parks are without fences and gates... dogs have to be well trained and gravitate to owners... people walk passed with dogs from all sides it seems more natural and hardly ever have problems even with super excited energies of kelpies, collies, heelers and the wild staffy cattle dog crosses we get..
in aus here the fenced ovals seem to have young untrained dogs and not walked before.. more corrections etc.

Owning Rottweilers is not always easy. Situations like the one with the husky happen and public perception makes it automatically the Rottweiler’s fault. Add to that that oftentimes a Rottweiler will meet aggressive behaviour from other dogs with aggression, not to dominate but to protect their pack. Not many dogs are ready for that. The husky made a wise choice in instantly backing down.

Okay so let me just admit that I haven't watched it past this point but let's just notice how the owner of the Rottweiler when Ronan is meeting the rottie has the leash all the way tense. This is a terrible way to introduce the dog to the dog park for the day regardless of what else is going on it would be better to have no leash on at all because it's just bringing in another negative equation that is going to stack with the rest.

Dogs parks are a horrible concept. If you understand dog behavior and also how many people bring their dogs, don't understand dog behavior. Dogs are pack animals and will defend their pack. When you get a dog, that's humping every dog in sight and forcing his dominance on smaller dogs. It's only a matter of time before this dog intrudes on a smaller dog that has a large or more dominant in its social circle that will step up to defend. Boom, now you have a dog fight. As a dog owner, you must be the alpha dog of the pack, and it's the alphas responsibility to curve this intrusive behavior. At least recognize that your dog doesn't view you as his or her leader and steer clear of dog parks. This is not the case. Almost every dog park you visit. You'll see one of the larger dogs humping and assisting themselves on smaller dogs. All of the other dogs are clearly uncomfortable and annoyed with it. The owner has failed to see the problem with this behavior. They'll say it's fine because none of the other dogs are up to fighting a larger dog. Then you'll see someone showing up with a larger or more dominant dog. It's not long before that dogs decided he or she is not putting up with it and challenges it. Now, of course, because none of these dog owners understand dog behavior or even fail to read very loud body language. The defending dog looks like the aggressor. In reality, they are "standing up to the bully." If you're at a dog park and you see this sort of thing developing. The best thing you can do is to take your dog and leave the dog park. It's not worth risking your dogs safety. When dog fights kick off anyone could get injured in the conflict. The offending dog will become a defending dog. They were also already confused about appropriate behavior before the fight and could view anyone as a threat and attack them.
