Well, that's how it actually works. The "communist" oligarchs are money lovers too🤣... they love money much more than they love their workers, I guarantee. In this case, though, the specifics of the allegations seem to be wrong - Soros doesn't seem to be a communist oligarch.

I just turned 40 last November. Watching this episode with all its early 2000 call backs made me realize how all these old freaks in media have shaped the world and therefore the trajectory of my life and it feels incredibly gross and also deeply stupid. No. We live in one of those point and click games from the 90s that go out of their way to K1ll you and make you start all over sometimes because the thing you need to stay alive was missed in the first 5 minutes of the game. You can only go backwards and stay there, except the player knows that they actually did progress in the game; player just doesn't get to keep it.

According to a Jordanian guy I knew, it's fairly common for Jordanians to blame America for anything. Like some guy's tire blows out and he says "gee thanks America". At the time I thought he must be exaggerating but now it kind of makes sense to me. That tire might have been American import after all. I like the idea that the American equivalent of that is to blame a billionaire. It seems like senseless blame shifting, but it may be true... On Soros’s economic theory, it’s not that difficult. Jim Cramer is probably the perfect example. He may lie or dramatically misrepresent facts about a security. People believe him and those beliefs drive price changes, even if the beliefs aren’t backed up by facts
What Jim Cramer does should be a crime. He's paid to mislead the public in order to take financial advantage, it's just fraud with extra steps.
As with so many other issues these days, the right wing is correct that Soros is bad, but completely wrong about WHY he's bad. The things about Soros that are actually bad have little to do with his politics: he made an indefensible amount of money through unethical means and uses his money to wield undue influence over politics, which also describes a whole lot of white Christians who have much more wealth than Soros, both collectively and in some cases individually. The closest thing to a legitimate criticism of Soros the right wing can muster is that he's a class traitor, or at least as much of a class traitor as a billionaire can be, since his funding isn't primarily focused on maintaining and growing his wealth.

I believe Port was implying that the 'class traitor' thing was legitimate in the sense that it's actually based on real things that really happened, rather than some ridiculous conspiracy theory.
He _did_ come from quite humble beginnings, and he _did_ go on to become extremely rich and leave his old background - in the eyes of some, that would make him a class traitor.
It's an opinion based on something real, instead of something imaginary.
Also, Port did stress that it was the *_closest thing_* to a legitimate criticism that they could come up with, not that it was correct or valid.

Port is neither calling Soros a 'class traitor,' nor saying that the right are correct to call him that.
It's not a legitimate criticism at all. It's merely the best that they can do, and they even get that wrong.
"Funding the protesters" has always confused me as a conspiracy theory. If they had funding, they wouldn't need to protest. Funded people go to open town hall meetings with specific multi-point agendas and say their point calmly. Protests aren't known for actually moving the needle greatly, but just because people have tried making their voices heard in every other way and it all falling on deaf ears.
Well, kinda. Look at Stonewall and the gay on camera blitzes. They moved the needle on media companies which had a knock-on effect. Though I agree in the main, they do have their place.

I haven’t watched this yet but let me just say this. I consider George Soros to have contributed to making my life better by donating $1,000,000 to the legalization measure in my state which then passed and allowed me to modify my marijuana related felony to a misdemeanor which opened up job opportunities I never would’ve had otherwise. Normally I’m against money in politics but George Soros actually affected my life for the better (allowing me to do more for myself) without getting anything out of it himself. So when these people blame him for inflation and bad weather, and say he has paid goons, I’d say he’s not paying me, but I’ll still defend him, because I believe he’s helped me without even knowing who I am.

@@TragoudistrosMPH Oh, I was tricked into watching that movie. It kept getting recommended to me on Amazon Prime, and I saw it had a high rating, so I decided to check it out. I didn't realize until later that it actually has really negative reviews from critics but they were hidden in favor of the extremely positive audience scores. Even outside of the stupid conservative Christian arguments, and the Glenn Beck jumpscare, the movie is boring AF and I would not have enjoyed it.
One thing that will always blow my mind is how everyone talks about George Soros' alleged meddling but not a single mention of the Koch Brothers... In fact I'd go as far to say these people have even heard of the Koch Brothers despite them being much closer to how they describe Soros.
The more I learn about Glen Beck in my adulthood the more I'm disturbed that my high school gov teacher was allowed to use a chapter of his book as a lesson plan.
He once did a piece on the fact that Empathy = Fascism.

Naomi Klein pointed this out in her latest book. How conspiracies often point the blame for societies ills at the "elites, the elites, the elites!!" But in reality, the people who benefit from conspiracy theories ARE the elites. As long as people aren't focused on real problems, then Corporations and the uber-rich are A O K to continue their plundering undisturbed.

As a Polish person, whom NGO was raided by right wing inquiries about "Soros money", I'm grateful for contextualisng this topic. Soros is not a positive character, but his help in building independent funds for NGOs in Poland is immense. Pluralism is key for any healthy democracy to go on.

What's really funny is he just claimed that's what his doctor told him without backing it up. Parasites don't actually eat your brain. Most commonly you get tapeworms that spread throughout the body and to the brain, where they soak up nutrients until your body kills them. If he's telling the truth, what the parasites left behind in his brain when they died is what was detected in the scan.
