It's back -- it's finally back! For years the iconic Hotel Vancouver has been offering one of the most spectacular buffets in the city called the Griffins Buffet... Then suddenly in 2013, they stopped....
'Times, they are a changin', 'out with the old', and 'all good things come to an end'; that was the end to one of the best seafood and dessert buffets in the city. But in the words of the great philosopher Dylan: Yesterday's just a memory, tomorrow is never what it's supposed to be. In fact, tomorrow is better!
Enter Notch 8. The new eatery at the Hotel Vancouver that brought back the iconic buffet in a grander more elegant form. The weekend brunch at Notch 8 truly is an event to be experienced. From the sparkling wine that first greets you, to the endless gourmet creations you get to savor, this experience truly is a notch above the rest.
While one may be accustomed to well prepared, high quality offerings from this eatery, one will still find that surprises are bountiful: stupendous egg creations where seafood and perfectly runny yolks are theme, 18 hr slow roasted fatty (the good kind of fat) prime rib, and caviar -- yes, caviar!
This dining experience is certainly worthwhile even at the $60 price point. The wonderful surprises (remember the caviar?) and the sparkling wine/Caesars/etc more than justifies the cost.
Pros:
Amazing atmosphere
Gourmet selections of pacific coast cuisine
Custom creations and premium items
Mimosa, Caesars and Sparkling wine
Cons:
Good dessert offerings, but many items were not replenished (perhaps just an off day)
Servers somewhat reminiscent of Basil Fawlty (again, perhaps just an off day)
Whether you are a local or a visitor, this is certainly one buffet experience not to be missed.

Amazing buffet. Everything is at its best, Great quality and everything is clean.
Nice and friendly environment.
Ismael The Emperor thanks! Quite an elegant buffet here in Vancouver. Where are you from?
I am from Mauritius and looking to visit Vancover soon. My brother and his familly live there in Surrey.
I went recently and I really liked it. Great atmosphere.
Hey Squish, glad to hear you had a nice experience! I wonder if it has changed much...
Yum Tm. I will definitely go there when I’m Vancouver. Looks delicious
Thanks for your video of notch8 at Fairmont hotel Vancouver . The buffet looked nice . I hope you enjoyed your buffet in luxury surrounding . Kind regards Sean.
This looks yummy. You look Punk🤗
Hardly much is more entertaining than good foods. Maybe good spirits
Great content, Tim. Thank you for showing us the delicious and quality food in Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. I can't wait to bring my wonderful parents to there and enjoy the place!
Thanks for reaching out Scott...hopefully that would be in the not too distant future when things settle down. Hope you're doing well :-)
Am hungry watching your video buffet tours:)!!! Thanks Tim
This was probably one of the nicer places here in Vancouver 🙂
We have to try this, lots of choices, this is very good after the run
That looked amazing!
Thanks Mark!
I'm going here next year for 3 days thanks for upload.
An early welcome to Vancouver! Happy you can visit :-)
A great one Tim going back in the archives tonight my friend!
Thanks CJ -- that was during Christmas time and was one of the better buffets in Vancouver where I'm from.
I miss Vancouver. Very interesting buffet.
My daily meal includes all those meats, seafoods, cheeses, etc. that you and your family, friends eat( my on screen, eat with your eyes kind of things)while I eat my mostly veggies, starch foods. It’s turning me into a vegetarian naturally and willingly.I get the rest of fats, cholesterol, sugar from your show! Love your vlogs. I have it on when I take my meals, the beautiful surroundings, wonderful service personnel’s,Foods!
LoL thanks Nora😃
'Basil Fawlty" LOL! That alone would be a draw for me just to have a laugh. I was researching for brunch ideas for tomorrow and knew you'd have something good et voila here it is. Will give them a try for brunch tmrw! Great video once again, you have a very calming voice and great video capture also! Cheers!
Certainly a better experience than Fawlty Tower, but might not be as fun😉. I went there during the holiday season and would be interested to see how it is now. Certainly very nice when I went. Love to hear how your experience was🙂
So nice to see Chef Will again
Miki Lawson, Shall we pay Chef Will a visit by actually attending the buffet brunch?
He was so lucky to get the Chef at the egg station preparing his egg. I wonder if the Chef will be there when I go next week (2018). I was wondering about the motoyaki sauce too, so it was nice to see that torched.
Greetings from Cairo Egypt
love your coverage its is done so calmingly and peacefully, and everything is covered clearly. Really surprised on indian food there, Subscribed.
Thank you for taking the time to reach out, S k. Much appreciate the feedback and just having fun here. Thank you again :-)
this got me really hungry, looks so good
Thanks for the comment :-) It was certainly one of the better buffets around. Have you tried it before?
No but when I get my Visa fixed .I'm going to Vancouver, 1st place I'm going.also after I win the lottery haha
Again Awsome commentary and video but the food amazing by the way what type camera do you use too vlog?
Thanks again Ron! I just use my phone.. It's the old Google Pixel phone and it does an okay job. Not too good with cameras and the equipment can get quite expensive even for something to be used for UA-cam. Thanks again!
Thanks for the great video! I made reservations for Notch8's Christmas Brunch Buffet after watching this, unfortunately they're already booked full though and I'm about 20th on the wait list :( My husband and I don't have family in Vancouver so we're looking for a great place to dine out as a couple. Do you have any other suggestions in the downtown Vancouver area?
Thanks Karen! It was quite a nice place indeed. Here's a couple of suggestions -- the Pan Pacific is very good... The following two places I haven't tried, but would love to try...
(1) www.yewseafood.com/menus/christmas/
(2) boulevardvancouver.ca/ (I think they have a Christmas buffet)
Hy's Steakhouse is always good -- very high end though but really worth the experience -- certainly not a place that I can film :-)
Hope this helps :-)
Thanks for the info, Just booked it
I'm curious, how was it?
Good looking food thank you for the video 🙂🙂🙂
Thank you Ruth🙂
Salivating Tim. Have you ever been to a Sugar Shack in Quebec? Something to put on your bucket list post pandemic. Lots of UA-cam videos.
Oh, that was certainly in the plans to visit some old friends in Montreal back in April last year...will definately look forward to it in the next year😆.. never been to a sugar shack, but was amazed at the amount of dishes and food they were offering 😋. much appreciate the suggestion, Dave, definitely something to look forward to!
@@TimLeeLetsGo full Quebois meals and folk music entertainment at some. Sucrerie de la Montagne is one I would recommend east of Hawkesbury ON.
Will be trying this in 2 months
An early welcome to you to Vancouver!
@@TimLeeLetsGo Thanks,we are really looking forward to this, rocky mountaineer,Calgary Stampede and Alaska cruise. There is a game show on the bbc just now with teams competing to cross Canada 🇨🇦 which looks amazing.
That's first lady in the background was a disaster. She dropped the tongs and grabbed it with her hands where you pick up stuff and then put turkey she picked up and put it back. That's like 81 health code violations right there.
Wow jjh lk, great eye! I didn't even see that and I was right there!
You are always so kind. What brought you to Vancouver?
+Paula Reilly Oh, I'm born and raised in Vancouver. If you have an opportunity to come for a visit, I would be happy to take you around 🙂
Tim Lee be careful, I'll take you up on that and a snowball fight 😊
I have yet to find a buffet in Vancouver that is worth the price you'd pay for...
tee tee I've have to agree. I've been searching for a really great buffet in Vancouver, but it's a seemingly difficult task. If you happen to come across one, I would be greatly appreciative if you could share 🙂
@Tim unfortunately I don't think that'll ever happen here bro... I work in the food industry and working at a busy Vancouver downtown hotel and everytime I look or think of our buffets it makes me sad or any buffets around town you can't compare that to anywhere else... I'm sorry but it's a joke...even just the Carribean, it's waaaaaaayy better... Vegas is next... but seriously the Philippines I think has the best buffets. I saw you Onada buffet... Sofitels Spirals and Shangrilas High Street Cafe are incomparable to even the best Vegas buffets... even Vikings of Niu... Vegas got nothing compared to them ...
I notice that in Vancouver, they do not use the buffet-guards that we are used to here in the United States. I'm not sure how they do it now since the pandemic. But obviously they have no regulations in having these put up for buffets served to the public.
Thanks Garrett,... yeah, I think these are just special event dining so no sneeze guards in place....but things are definitely different now with the pandemic... Hopefully this will end soon. Wishing you all the best 🙂
Is this every Sunday Brunch buffet?
Fay Su yes, I believe so, but check their site. Very nice for special occasions 🙂
estn tuyet v ngon thank
how much is the buffet?
Hi James, this is one of the price you're buffets around here. When I went it was about $60 for the weekend brunch buffet and I believe I came with a cocktail as well that is included. Really nice though, hope to get a chance to try. Cheers :-)
How do you book or by a spot? And do they have buffet for dinner ?
Unfortunately, I don't think this is offered at the moment due to the pandemic rules... I'll be definitely counting the days when this is offered again!
l am going there tomorrow 😋😋
Bonnie Wong that's great! Hope you enjoy. Chef Will is quite good🙂
@@TimLeeLetsGo thanks for ur sharing ! l will enjoy it😊
@@siusiuc I'm just curious, how was it? I went during Christmas time and was wondering if it's any different during summer
@@TimLeeLetsGo hi! l would say it was pretty much the same as your video ..it was great!
How does everything stay Hot?
Ian Elgar they actually have heating lights at the top. This was certainly one of the better hotel style buffets here🙂
How about the price?
Hi Mahyar, this was a bit pricey. I recall it was about $60 but includes a Bloody Mary/Caesar or mimosa.
Had me at the prime rib.
👍😀
It might be a good Buffet Tim but every single staff serving the food with their bare hands just kills my appetite...
That egg yolk was too watery. They should have waited for at least a minute more for it to be less watery but thickish.
Tim I love all of you videos but I don't think I would eat that any restaurant where employees prepare your dishes while not wearing gloves
Thanks Sara. Generally most places do... I know Vegas takes this very seriously. I recall I made a video in which I asked a server to something at another station; I met up with her on a later trip and she joked that it was a violation. Glad to know she didn't get into trouble over this, but it is quite strict.
And in the year of Covid😱😱😱 I’m sure they had to close this...sad.
I think I need a Keto wing man if I ever go to these buffets. You need to keep me pinched inside my lane.
Stick with it Joseph! I'm certainly not eating for the keto diet here. One thing you I've noticed is that all cravings go away after a while. Eating carbs and desserts become a conscious choice... it also becoming easier to get back into ketosis once you've been on it for a while :-)
Just 7 Tim?? 🤣🤣🤣😁👍🏽
first... and im hungry
Definitely give it a try if you're in the area :-)
That will chef could have at least wore gloves as he was making that fresh bagel thing
3:26 It is best not to talk over the food cause your saliva will go on the food.
Bill c there was certainly a risk of that happening 😉. I swear I was careful...for the most part 🙂
OK..whos hungry?
