I'm 67. Started at age 5 with a stingray. Had a Schwinn English racer (road bike before gay was a thing) in college. Started mountain biking at 65 when I retired. Hitting small drops and clearing tables at this point. Ride a lot of bike parks and local black diamond tech trails. I still drink a lot of milk. I don't plan to slow down anytime soon. Put in over 1000 miles of trails in the past year. I also ride BMX and DJs.
How i want to live my 50s+. Gotta stay stretched and limber so those inevitable moments where our bodies are pushed to the limit only slow us down for a week or so.
Congrats on your persistence and longevity. No doubt that cycling is keeping you young! This is coming from a 70 year old road & MTBr. Keep on pedaling!
Picked up mtb at 14 then switched to riding dirt jumpers with my mates at 16 and am hitting 5 - 15 foot gaps and have a good amount of tricks after 5 months Never planning on stopping
So I was raised in a cycling family from the North Shore of BC..... I've been alive for 46 years, and riding on my own for 43 years.... My first mountain bike was in 1984... My skill is arguably higher than 95% of riders. Just due to life experience, the terrain, the level of trail difficulty here. I still send full triple blacks on a SS hardtail. You need to come to BC... There is still 70 year olds going full send on the Shore (North Shore Betty, give her a google). MTB culture here is on a diffrent level.
I got into Mountain biking at around 15 when i had a bad accident on a BMX. Handlebars broke on a transition and pierced my chest. Rode MB from that age up until around 30 years old. Just getting back into it at 44. Muscle memory is awesome and it feels like i never stopped riding. Still getting my legs back but they are coming back fast.
I was 25 when I started watching mountainbike videos on youtube. I am 26 now and currently waiting for my first mountainbike to arrive, spoiled myself with a YT Jeffsy Core 2 since it was 35% off
I took an interest into mountain biking at early age by playing a mountain biking video game. I read mountain biking magazines in middle school. I officially started mountain biking at 18.I'm now 19 and I didn't go to collage and I don't want to go to collage like everyone else. I take the path less taken in life I take it upon my self to learn everything a could about mountain biking, and everything else in life. Of course I don't know everything but I'm willing to learn. My problem is I live in Kansas and I don't have a car so I'm kind of stuck until I go to job core in Kentucky for computer technician here soon.
I don't think Kona is going out of business they were liquidating the Kent outdoors stocks and bringing back most of the US and Canadian staff to rebuild the brand...
At 17, my classmate (who's a pro now) got me to go MTB with him. Back then, i thought road cycling was weird. Now, I'm 22 and I ride 6 hours a week on my road bike
I started Mountainbikeing at 30 now I'm 36 and I start to get realy good! Don't do the big gap jumps in that age, of cause! But if it's somthing you most likely just get scratches and bruises from if you mess up, instead of brocken hips or spines, I'm in! The 15 year old boys that hopp in every pro jump line blinde, get smocked on those nearly downhill sections! 😈🤙 Until they start training it, and start smoking you after half a year! 😭
My dad came into mountainbiking when he was 48 years old. 4 years later he is hitting 20 footers and backflips and is much better than me😅 . Also, he works as a professor in a university.

Im 12 and I already modified my bike with new handlebars, stem, grips, fork, and conversion from rim brakes to hydraulic brakes and my biggest jump was 15 feet that I made with my dad in the woods
Painted my sister old huffy from white n pink to silver. Rode that till freshman bought use bmx Dyno comp. Then 4 wheels took over my life in plank of wood n some trunks. Life happens cars.. girlfriend...kids .. work .. found $1200 dj on craiglist for $325 rode 3 tumes n year old. Scored. Rode everywhere for 3 years. Now that girlfriend is my wife n kids are almost gone . That girl let me get a electric bicycle.. im got small 18 ft table top and 9 ft gap . And working on my hits every time out. Started at 40 and plan not to stop. My snowboard season to short n bicycling season is long i should started at 14 when i saw my first mtb magazine.
I'm in my late 20's cuz I needed a cheaper hobby. A big jump for me is like 4 feet ngl. Was a roadie in high school. Solipsistic simians on the roads scared me off the motorcycles.

I biked a little in my driveway when I was a kid. I mountain biked every trail around Georgia from 2021 to 2023. Hoping for more better trails to be made.

This is exactly my situation except im the one who picked it up at 13.

@ReignT5 That's exactly my situation too, im also the one who picked it up at 13 and shreds harder then my friend who's been riding his whole life.
