“Temporary Loan” was one of the first songs I ever learned on guitar, it’s one of these weird obscurish songs I put on countless mix CD’s back when people did that. I play it a tiny bit differently in that I’m way lazier with the walkups and I barre it all, so it’s very easy to play. I always joke that most of my favorite songs have these same chords. C#m, A (barred), F#. Like “I Will” by Radiohead and, well, lots of Marika’s songs. I really love that you mentioned how “Temporary Loan” sounds like something that only a person who doesn’t know the “proper” way to write a song has the ability to write. That’s how I feel about early Liz Phair songs as well, which I LOVE about those songs, I think they’re brilliant. If anyone wants to check out other really good songs by Edith Frost, I recommend “Cars and Parties,” “Love is Real,” and “You Belong to No One.” And others, but those are three I particularly love apart from “Temporary Loan.”
