She is so lovely - that voice! I am so pleased she says 'neeoo' instead of 'nooo' - too many English singers copy Americans to be understood by Americans. Not this girl
English singers don't "copy" americans. The american accent is a lot more neutral and when people sing they tend to drop their accent. I can tell an english apart from an american in a conversation but not while they are singing, that includes Laura Marling. But I take it you're english so check out the singer from Phoenix he's french and there's a world of difference between an interview and when he sings.
Hello miss Marling, you have an amazing texture in your voice. I first heard this song, when dolly sang it with Chet! The way you do it is so cool. You are also relaxed in your interview. I mean people, would jump up and down in the presents of dolly & Emmy Lou!

@@jasonwyman1873 The concept of Julian Assange is about freedoms that this generation might be the last to have - not about whether you want to date the guy. In any case you can bet that the US government has done a great deal of character assassination.. along with their trying to arrange bogus rape cases against him in Iceland and formulating plans to poison him in prison in the UK for exposing their war-crimes not only to the rest of the world but to their own citizens.

Laura Marling is an amazing song writer, singer and player but I loose a little bit of respect for her when I hear her talking like this, as if she's a victim because she's female, although I don't know her full story. Even Dolly wasn't having any of it God bless her.
She doesn't at all sound like she's a victim, on the contrary, she's calling to "stuff women in there" which means women have to step in if they want to take part in something. Plus this talk about the music business and the art business in general is so important, and I'm glad that contemporary artists are talking about it, since it sometimes shapes talent, those behind the scenes aspects determine the fate of creativity, and ultimately everything artistic, older generations singers and artists had it differently, things were different back then, nowadays it is more restricting and calculating.

She's calling to "stuff women in there", who is going to do that? They can if they want to just like you do, you make really nice UA-cam music videos. All doors are open now and there's room for everybody, it's been like that for decades. You just have to want to do it and you have to be exceptional and lucky to make it. Just don't blame men for holding women back ffs, it's sexist!
Dolly was/is very aware of that - her entire persona is (partly) a way for her to be more palatable and acceptable to the industry and the public because she inhabits this hyper-feminine ideal.

Even though she's worth an estimated $350m she has always felt the need to create a persona, and she's never been able to be herself in her public career? At her age as a singer songwrighter I would hope she could be her real self now. We all have to do that to some extent in our work life in order to get by, every one has to create a personality that is more professional, palatable and acceptable in order to be able to survive in life.
@@outsidethepyramid As with most things, it's a bit of both. Much of her persona is obviously Dolly to her core, but she's very aware of the presentation and character of that persona - she has that famous quote that "it costs a lot to look this cheap." Whereas someone like Emmylou Harris, a woman with equivalent level but different shape of talent didn't reach the same ubiquitous status. It's not just that there's a more professional personality, it's a marketing strategy. And that's what Marling I think is speaking about - the variety of the feminine that has been shut out by a music business run by mostly men who are only interested in promoting one general idea of femininity, one Dolly Parton naturally (and consciously) fit in to. She's talking about the very real machine of the music industry and the complexities of fame and visibility.
I can do without the smug and condescending attitude she gives off about dolly Parton's lack of new age feminism. Not everyone has to be an activist. And certainly not everyone has to agree with whatever your "new age feminism" entails.
