Oh Brooke, seeing you put Purple Martin houses up, just warms my heart and, it brings tears to my eyes. I grew up in a tiny town here in IL and my dad ALWAYS had Purple Martin houses. When they moved to Crossville Tn to finish out thier lives, dad had the Exact set up you do. And, he was quite successful in having several pairs come every year, sometimes upwards of 20 pairs. So, you might end up with two poles eventually.
They are absolutely Beautiful birds and they have the sweetest sound, you'll, so enjoy sitting and listening to thier conversations.
As tears are starting to flow now, thinking about my folks and how much I miss them both, I'm overjoyed, that my FAVORITE channels, the Cog bunch , are going to get to enjoy, the Purple Martin's, just as my mom and dad did.

My father was a Purple Martin lover as well. I remember you have to clean out any Sparrows nesting in there until the Martins arrive. Once Established, they will keep the Sparrows away.

Such a cool contraption for the awesome Purple Martins... hope they fill them all!
We had a Martin house when I was a kid. They send out scouts first. We always waited for the scouts and would clean out our houses then. Sparrows will nest in the houses so cleaning when you see the scouts helps with the timing. They are so pretty to watch and have a delightful song to listen to. I am envious.
Just watching you set this up made my heart happy this morning.

I love that y'all are helping Purple Martins. While living in the country, I had them nest on the side of my house up in the corner where the roof peaked and met the house. It's very cool watching them swooping and diving to catch insects.

My mawmaw lived in iuka, MS and she always had homegrown gourds that she used for Purple Martin houses. She passed at 101 yrs old about 15 yrs ago. She would be amazed at today's Martin houses!!
Jello guys,I must know those gourds are quite modern! Back in the day,people used gourds they grew for Martin housing! I think you will enjoy watching them and appreciate the benefit of having them!
The Purple Martin tree is really pretty. This is probably the neatest one I have seen. The houses are so different from what I have ever seen. I hope and pray you have some this year.
Interesting setup. My concern is the hummmm of the power lines. If they come but don't stay, that may be the reason.
With all these frequencies changing over the years, it might be a bit of an overwhelming thing to these precious darlings.

Love this idea! I saw a UA-cam gardener who had charming individual bird houses on poles around his garden area for natural pest control. It looked like a miniature village. ❤

My father had a Martin house he put up every spring. The sparrows would try to nest in it, he had to remove them and re hang the Martin house. The Martin's eat lots of mosquitoes.
That nesting pole looked so close to electrical pole and wires!!!❤❤❤❤
I thought that, but I assumed that the designer who I assume was helping Jason,has put up enough to know what he's doing, so I am hoping that the apparent distance is an optical illusion and that there's more room than it appears. ❤❤

One bird that will also utilize the Purple Martin houses are Starling, in my experience. They are black with a bright orange bill.

My dad put one up one year next to the pond. They like to be near water. The first couple of years they did well but the wasps decided they wanted it for their house before the martins came back so that was the end of that.
you need a camera pointed at the housing complex to see when you have incoming birds. How exciting.
