I really like these types of videos :-) your voice is very calming and having you talk about the topic of drawing while you’re drawing sprinkled with some commentary about the drawing itself, is the kind of videos that get me inspired and want to take out my pen and Draw along with you! I used a 1.0 mm Kopic fine liner to do a graphic style sketch of some random portrait out of a grayscale coloring book.… I don’t see very well at all and glasses barely helped me because I have a complicated genetic condition that affects my retina… Anyway, I really relate to what you said about using your disadvantage to your advantage. I have to draw extra bold just to see what I’m doing, but I’ve gotten used to it.… I should really branch out and draw more male characters/references. I tend to go for the “aesthetic” female portrait :-)

I'm happy to hear this. Thank you! I encourage you to keep drawing any way that you can. No matter what is is just draw what you love to draw. I believe art is for everyone and you inspire me!

@@voightdraws thank you! You inspired me as well, it is hard to find videos like this, but they’re the ones that I like the most. I just started making videos myself and I like this style and I’m trying to bring it back.😉

Maybe a stupid questions but I have to ask
1.Are you drawing these portraits from your imagination?
    2. Are you "just drawing" or is there some sort of method, process?
I am asking because you are like magician - just putting pen on the paper and incredible things happen (I know there is no magic. You have spent countless hours to perfect your craft)

@@redhood7105 Sometimes I’m drawing from imagination. Often I use reference. I don’t try to reproduce the photo or painting I’m using as reference but using it to get a basis for a drawing. Lately I’ve been learning to paint and have been focusing on being more accurate in my likeness to the reference. I’m hoping to begin posting some videos of that process soon. Thanks for watching!

Hello. I've been learning to sketch portraits for just under a year. I still have a problem with consistency of catching the character of the subject. Is there a way to contact you and get some tips? I'm not really working with any technique, I just try to draw what I see. Perhaps going with the method that you are using would be helpful? Are you using a Loomis method?
    Thank you. Good video. Subscribing.

I really like the Loomis method. The key is not just drawing what you see but what you wish you saw as well. You can only do that through knowing what you are looking at. The Loomis method is a great method to gain the knowledge so you eventually be able to create the portraits you want to create.

@@voightdraws I tried using loomis method and I made portraits so easily - completely recognisable. It's insane. I believe the Loomis method give you a good sense to where things that are particular to one's face, should be in relation to each other. I will continue with this method for sure. Although I do not really draw every line and go strictly by the method - just enough to get a feel for the space. Thank you for this video, it gave me a motivation to try it out!
