The Kubota Broke Again... But Worse

- In this video I work on clearing trees until the Kubota breaks. Then I fix the tractor and add a plate under the power steering pump. After that I build a brush guard for it.

A tractor is not designed for this sort of work. It’s not a bulldozer. It would be much easier on the tractor if the Bush was cut down with a chainsaw, gathered with the grapple and then grind away the stump.

In the equipment repair field we replace broken lines with hoses on machines we plan on long term ownership. Great job fixing the Kubota design flaw.

Hmn. Seems like trying to push over trees is really hard on the machine. I would have used a chainsaw to knock all those over and then the claw to gather them up to chip or burn. Good to know that it's easy to break the steering up there and there aren't good shields in place...
Tractors are made to be used hard, no point in buying a tractor if u are not going to use it as a tractor. Then u can invest the money somewhere else.
I agree with Cooper....thumbs up. At first I feared it was the housing the banjo bolt screwed into which cracked, not the line, so in the end it was a relief to see things work out well. It does seem like bumps/scrapes almost anywhere on a line like that risks breaking the bond at the copper connection.
I’m sure that housing isn’t cheap. Thank heavens it wasn’t that.
Just me thinking and watching what you had to go through....$250 and the insurance will take care of everything including taking the tractor to the dealer for the dealer to replace the broken line....what would it cost to rent some equipment for a week while the dealer fixes it...and gives you a warranty on the work they did? 30 years ago I would have done what you have done and I compliment you on your work PLUS videoing it all!! 👍🤠🚜🔧

OMG! That seems like a job worthy of an insurance claim. I’ve had 2 Kubotas in the last 26 years and both have been pretty bulletproof and I’m kind of abusive.
With KTAC they'd fix it, however him going crashing through the woods like he does its no wonder he is breaking stuff....not exactly what a tractor is built to do in the first place, but hey its his money.
Screw that, why should all of our insurance rates go up because he abuses his equipment and tears them up doing stuff they're not designed for. If you want to pay for his immaturity, do so but I do not.

that's crazy what you had to go through. It would be nice if someone made an aftermarket 2 piece line, so then you could just cut the old line off and install the new one out in the field
You better git that tractor back to the shed before your daddy realizes its gone and he grounds you for life !
It will be a hyd. loader cyl. next . He does not understand the proper use of this tractor . I feel real sorry for the next owner .

Great job on the guards. I have a Kioti but it is vulnerable to sticks & limbs like yours. Good idea for the perforated steel rather than expanded. Well done! _Paul

For the amount of work needed to remove that line and how easy it broke I would be buying banjo to JIc adapters and just running a rubber hose. Cut out the old line.

It's fixed better than the new one!!! On the shield you could drill and tap a couple holes up front to secure the tabs and it's still removable. Thanks!
We will see how it goes but that is a possibility.
My old B2601 always leaked fluid from the hydraulic quick coupler. After they fixed it under warranty for a 3rd time and it was still leaking I got rid of it. Despite that I was considering giving Kubota another chance on a new 4060 but not so sure now. Great video.
Most of the engine and drive box/ drive case pans are cast aluminum. I bumped one on a stump and shattered my drive case on an older Kubota. I'm a fellow Fj40 owner as well...
My thinking was this would be the Toyota of tractors. Maybe I was wrong.
@@HumbleAcres Yanmar is the Toyota of tractors, there are parts like the clutch disc on my Yanmar that can be replaced with a toyota clutch disc, splines fit and everything. I just can't recall which toyota model it was.
i use a strap with a noose on 3 point or curl of loader when ground is soft and wet. for the larger saplings. i plan to fabricate a ripper blade for back hoe or loader. i got a cheap titan mechanical thumb and used the jars welded together as ripper blade. get the 1/2 inch SSQA plate for loader and weld it in the center. i plan to put 3/8 ar500 steel between the titan jaws then weld together. i have not made it yet. like an oreo, the center is ar500 and sticks out an inch from the titan jaws. just an idea i need to get out of my head and onto welding bench
Great job Jordan, I have to peasants to do that. I would have cut the line to get it out, replaced it with a high pressure flexible line.

It usually only makes things worse if you get angry. Best to take a break, cool off and figure out a solution. Wish you luck with your new tractor. Honestly I still really like mine.

Great fix on the line and fantastic grill guard super skid plates now you got it right and hope years to come when I saw it when you first got it and saw all the hydrolic lines underthe frame why it did not come with them all your tractor company's have what's called a high rail line no hydronic lines below because of high cost of the lines them selves a flex line would have been better you just unsnake it and put new.
If I have problems with it or any of them again I might replace it with a flexible hose. Thanks!
Hard hydraulic lines are a joke. Hoses are a way more efficient way to speed up replacement when needed
speaker grill material for pro sound is very heavy and cheaper and comes cut to size. many styles to pick from.
Oh, boy, my heart bleeds. That machine is a diva. Not up to what you need it to do. (Which isn't much)... Get rid of it and get something old school. (I would have taken a chainsaw to those saplings, tied them and dragged them out, but hey, I'm old school too. If you can do it sitting down it's not work)... Good luck, Jordan. 👍
i do that when ground is still soft from a week of rain. a heavy cutting edge on my bucket made a huge difference in everything. they have the BXPANDED cutting edge that might work well for saplings??

I'm new here so this might be a stupid question. But why do you have r1 tires on the back and r4 tires on the front that on backwards? Plus you need a small dozer for what you are doing there. That's hard on a tractor. I have dozer and tractors.

beand speaker grill so you have tabs. weld L brackets on then bolt
The oil pan is aluminum according to google. When I changed the oil on my 3901 the oil filter was cross threaded from the factory. My friend who is 6 foot 5 and weighs 290 got it off for me.
Second option is have a hose made with proper fittings on both sides.
Skid plates might protect those low hanging hoses and fittings
If it was my tractor, I would have replaced all of those worthless Ridged lines with flexible hoses while your disassembled to that level of tear down
It can be cast aluminum or aluminum in motor parts.
Did you think about replacing it with a heavy duty flexible metal hose. If you could get it work , you could just cut the old one out. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.

Just bought a brand new LX 4020 to move snow in mountain resort. dealership put howes diesel treatment in it and sold me a bottle to treat diesel because the temp is around 0 degrees F at 10000 feet elevation. I have 17.2 hours on the tractor and the thing won’t start. tried for 3 days finally put 911 in fuel filter and added a little to the tank as per specs. still won’t start. had to tow it through 4 feet of snow 150 yards as the kubota dealership in my area wanted to charge me 8 hours of labor just to drive out to and from my location because i didn’t buy it from them. took it to a kubota dealership in a different state but only 1.5 hours from me. They told me the DPF is completely clogged due to the fuel. SOOO no warranty and no insurance coverage. $12000.00 to fix. the tractor was only $39000.00 WTF! Kubota service and insurance and Sales all suck. They blame it on the other dealerships, no one is taking responsibility for taking care of tractor. Read your manual and warranty and insurance form. If it is fuel related. NO COVERAGE. DONT BUY Kubota! LIARS and Fraudsters. Does anyone have any insight or help here ? Just lost over $20000 on contracts for snow removal. and looks like i wont be getting this tractor back for at least 3 to 4 weeks, even if i pay the extortion money to fix it. and then im sure it will just gel up again and and wont start and will have to go through this all again in another 17 hours. only about 15 total gallons of fuel have gone through this engine 8 of which was put in by the dealer and i only put 12 oz. of howes in the 10 gallons of ulsd i bout from costco. tier one diesel.
In the winter the fuel will gel up even with heat treat in it because of the fuel cooler. Whenever it gets below 0F you need to block off that cooler. I just put a piece of cardboard in front of it and that fixes it for me. Best of luck to you.
If you have a fuel line going to the cooling system, it is a fuel warmer for cold weather.
I have a 5510hst kioti and Ii put a 3/16 plare across the underside attached to the loader mounts. Works great. Not sure how to attach photos for you to see

Skid plates are a must
Wish I could of told you before all your work. Commercial refrigeration is high pressure and all the copper unions are silver soldered. The leak could have been repaired on the tractor.
I'm thinking you should not have to worry about the insurance... That should be under warranty

Great video, but I recommend taking a picture of those "lines" before you unhook them, so you will know how they go back together. Ask yourself, there has to be an easier way to remove that line... the dealership is not going to all the trouble you went through??? And yes about the grill, I did punch a good size hole in mine while grappling,,, a limb punched a hole in the grill. Did you ever determine how the hydraulic line cracked in the first place.... cab anything be done to prevent another occurrence?
Well, that blows (literally). I am surprised by the issues with the Kubota. I am wondering if the previous issue caused this one? Makes me happier I have these 70 year old, reliable Fords... Sorry, I could not resist... ;-)

tip take photos of things before you pull things apart , .But your doing a good job ,With grill guard put two bars going top to bottom for extra strength and then fit mesh

As much as I love tractors. It looks like very much the wrong tool. You need one of those big tree grabbers with the built in saw $$$$ :) But... yeah like the others I would chainsaw the small stuff... it goes really fast. And then just stump grind and grapple after everything is down.

Need to mount u a hitch revere in the shop on the floor so u can put your winch in there to pull stuff in and Kubota paint is not good

Given how he's using the machine I wouldn't warranty it, its really considered abuse...crashing through the woods on any machine is honestly abuse, they're not built for that, a bulldozer yes, a homeowner sub-compact or compact tractor not the right machine...borderline ok with a skidsteer even.
Im guessing either those trees are dead and just don't grow much anymore, or because it's fall and they've already lost their leaves.

Wait till that flapper in the cross over tube in between the fuel tanks deteriorates …. And the dealer tells you : you have grass clippings in the tank 🙄🤦♂️
And cleaning the tank is not covered under warranty ….

@@HumbleAcres there is a one way flap "valve" in the crossover tube from one tank to the other .. - you tractor has 2 tanks ... the one with the filler, and the other one which had the send ing unit and fuel pick up in it ....
the fuel pick up is s problem ... there is no strainer etc .... the 2 tanks are companies with about a 1" or 1.25" ID hose wit this "famous" flap/one way valve in it ... and when that comes apart it looks like black grass clippings in your tank and will plug up the fuel intake ....
also when y9ou prime the tractor dont just turn on ignition and let the flue pump pump, crack open the screw not he head of the spin on fliter to let the air escape ...
No tractor going crashing through the woods is going to hold up to that stuff.
What's the land clearing for, more hay fields? Might be nice to have a wooded area for privacy.
More fields. I was thinking of planting trees in the fence row but we will see.

we have a dealership in our town for these the lack of protection of any kind skid plates to protect areas is poor design if you look at Catpiller their are more sealed in steel areas
I am looking at the possibility of adding a skid plate to the whole bottom, just need to work out how to mount it.
@@HumbleAcres reminds me of a radio show called car talk these soldiers called in asking about welding thick steel plates to there jeep as a bomb blocker of sorts my trooper already came with them 1" steel plates welded in the floor pans ya though that would help you alot thinking those lines are alittle lite is why it broke

Unbelievable...why wouldn't you just put a chain around the wimpy trees and pull them out by the roots. Now you have the roots in the ground - what a mess. Hell I could pull those trees out easily with my pickup. Bottom line - pull the trees out!

This is where the owner is asking the machine to do something it's not intended or designed to do. Man go hire out a guy with a Cat front end loader. Way cheaper and way more efficient than the way you're trying to go about this.

How about you take some responsibility for your actions.
I don't think you watched the whole video. I never filed an insurance claim and fixed it myself in this video.
This is why you dont buy this brand in anything. They are so dam hard to fix the smallest thing. As you can see with this tractor or anyone in this brand you have to strip half the front end a part to get a simple hard line out thats maybe 2 feet long. Try an work on this brand in a skid steer. Any thing you need to do on or around the engine you have to take over half of it a part to even get at anything. It is totaly insane. Them hard lines shouldn't be soft. If they are that why they crack with nothing hitting them. Due to just vibration an presser. All steel presser lines are made out of a very hard steel to take the presser and vibration. I have made up many of these lines. You don't braze them as brase is to soft. You torch weld them with 3/32 steel torch rod or an old steel coat hanger.

Everything has been good now. I have now worked it about 10 hours since this video and haven’t had any problems.
