I don't know, there are a few times that i think I like the Import Wizard with Step three that allows us to use General and it knoes what is text, date and a number, and then we don't have to have an Excel Table... But the 99% of the rest of the time it is Power Query : )

OMG, your tutorials are simply amazing. With work desktops within the years and my new personal laptop, have worked with many versions of excel. Being the novice user and only reactive to unforeseen problems, your videos really have on multiple occasions given me the exact solution, thank you! (This time, the Text Legacy in the Options Menu is priceless) My new Office Excel version would only import a generated text file of about 2000 employees database into power query mode, which renders errors, therefore making my file incomplete, or useless to a novice user who can't quite reap the benefits of the queries' abilities. It takes me years just to get used to a feature, and companies like microsoft completely hides away the feature with a new and improved version. Since i don't have the patience nor the knowledge to learn new tools (and old tools wasn't broke in the first place), you are a lifesaver! Excel is indeed more fun.
I remember using the legacy text import wizard, it wasn't too bad back in the day but compared to what you can achieve with power query I wouldn't want to go back to the old way.
I agree. But the sad note is that the majority of Excel users either don'y have the right version for Power Query or have no idea that Power Query exists. Lucky for us, we know about the Power of Power Query : )
Nice fly-by, and yet complete, very concise, to the point... instant results. And of course, by now we all do this for breakfast (although loading just one file is rarely the case - where’s the fun in that? :-)
People still do import just one file. And that file gets sent to them each week or period with the same name. But, yea, it makes more sense to do From Folder. I will do that in the next one : ) Thanks as always, teammate Geert!!!

I was lost until I watched your PQ series. It’s handy to know the legacy option is there. Thanks for the video it was short but sweet.
Hi Mike.. great video. Thanks also for the Legacy Wizard fun. We're all so used to PQ/GATD now.. forgot all about the good old Text Import Wizard. So.. kind of a flashback / flashforward mix today.. haha!! As always, good learning and fun at EIF! Thumbs up!!
What do GATD and EOF mean? I love your naming of what this is today: flashback / flashforward mix . I did it because the vast majority of users will still be in the older versions for at least a few years, and since the title will be easily found when people ask the basic question "Import Text in Excel" when a google search is done, I thought that I had to show both.
@@excelisfun Hi Mike.. thanks.. GATD is for Get and Transform Data (always try to reinforce the current menu naming conventions in my mind) and EOF is a goof.. meant to type EIF for Excel Is Fun. I corrected in my prior comment. Old eyes and weary fingers make for periodic typos.. haha!! Thanks again!!!

The things that you might want it for is to import the data (so it can be refreshed so that it does not have to be in an Excel Table. Also, Step 3 with the General, I have always liked it because it understands text, numbers and dates. But moving forward, we almost always will be using Power Query.
Thanks fot the video, when I load the Text File excel is loading the names in columns (A,B,C ...) rather than (1,2,3...) how I can change this import setting to have these names in columns 1,2,3 .. etc? Thanks

After 4 lines i wrote another code after 6 lines i wrote another code and so on. Now i want remove all unwanted vertical @t that the whole code looks without vertical @t there any shortcut key Because it's take much time to remove unwanted vertical spaces.

Here are Joe's exact words from Nov 20 : We are starting a very limited rollout of Dynamic Arrays to production Excel on Win32 and Mac. As a result, you may see DA related queries from users that get the flight in the forums. We’ll gradually increase the rollout over time and will pause if we spot anything we need to fix; so please don’t take this as a sign that DA is close to being widely available in production. The full rollout might take many months. Even though we are doing a small flight to production, this is a big milestone on our journey to fully deploying DA. Thanks for your feedback on DA over the last few years, it’s been incredibly valuable to the Dynamic Arrays feature crew.
My channel may shut down by You Tube after 10th December under the new policy made by You Tube that if channel is Not commercially viable it will automatically closed by You Tube.
That would be a crime against you by UA-cam if they really did that! It would not be fair!!!!!! Where did you hear this? It doesn't make sense to me because if all channels that were not commerically viable were shut down, how would any new channel get started?

It just means "Before Power Query". That is what Microsoft calls the import options we used to have before Power Query.
I don't know if u have done it before , but is there a way to import files from a .PDF file ?
