    I have had some good luck catching some decent fluke just a couple feet off of a jetty's edge, both in the bay at Long Island, and the strong New Jersey surf. It seems these fish often take advantage of the deeper pockets that can form along the edges of the rocks.

    • @marcopug1729
      @marcopug1729 7 років тому

      Toshow 10 some of the bigger fish will actually sit inside the rocks and wait for snappers to swim by. That's probably how I caught one on a topwater at the jetty in montauk

    Do flounder stage or lay on the sides of drop offs, or do they mainly stay on the flat surfaces of the top of or bottom of the drop-offs.

    Love your videos John, very educational. I live in the South Shore area of Suffolk County in Babylon. Can you please recommend the best pier and surf areas to fish for Fluke? I do not have boat, and am limited to just land fishing. Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

    • @weaponsxpert87
      @weaponsxpert87 6 років тому +1

      David Gerdes people will never say a good spot, especially online. The best way to burn a nice honey hole is for people to find out about it. I live in the same area as you a little more east though. Back in the day there used to be a AWESOME trout spot not far from us. Then one day a local politician had his picture in newsday saying how he was there and thats it man that spot is shot even to this day its not even close to how it used to be. My best advice is look on the map and just try different spots you never know when youll hit that special honey hole. Also talk to the peope you run into youll be surprised what you can pick up from makeing friends. A couple of weeks ago i was just turned on to a nice bass lake that i never even gave a chance to just from talking with a fellow angler.

      Michael O'Leary much different, cali halibut are more elusive 10x bigger and they probably won't go for the set up in the video, they like fast moving plastics and live bait

      Harder is better, but as long as your tip isn't soft, and you're using braided line, short sharp twitches will work well.

      Fluke is another name for Summer Flounder. To confuse things, we also have toothless winter flounder which are called "flounder" in my region. South of NJ "flounder" means summer flounder, because they have no winter flounder.
