And that story was before Knuckles fought Mecha Sonic and the Eggrobo.
I imagine Triple Trouble 16-bit has gotta take place between Sonic's story and Knuckles's story, since the story of TT16 takes place RIGHT after the end of Sonic's story. (as we know from the intro cutscene and the tie-in comic)
