This is not new. In the 90s Div Cav and LRRP had motorcycles. Heck, the French had a school dedicated to it as light recon. Only thing news worthy here is the bs electric motorcycle. Otherwise this is not new. Some, O saw our enemies using this and add EV to it. Bam OER bullets and funding. Instead of looking back to shit we did that worked. Hell, there's SOPs on this. But the standard infantry thinking this might seem new.

The Russians have released a new Lancet that operates in conjunction with reconnaissance drones and attacks a priority target. Without human or operator participation, in autonomous mode. When my 2013 Zero S died due to a battery manufacture issue, Zero replaced it with a 2017 DS model (free of charge). This was a huge upgrade. The 2013 had a max range of 80km. @@mangrumpyold1871 I think the real issue is converting civilian vehicles for military use. With the rising need of a recon bike. It won't be long before they make a dedicated bike for military use from the ground up.

    • @SGTvolcan
      @SGTvolcan 11 місяців тому +6

@@kinotroikgames2818 Listen, the reason why the KLR was adopted. Because it met all the criteria that the military needed. 600 miles on a single tank. Silent operation (You will never get that with a two stroke). And the most important of all. Legendary ease of maintenance on the field. Something KTM is very well known for failing in.
For thick terrain a lighter bike is "better". But with the need to carry 500 pounds on that bike. A 300 2 stroke will always fail in that regard. The stress on the suspension and frame will cause it to buckle under the tested conditions.
You are clearly only seeing two factors which were already tested and thrown out the window. Speed is not as important when you need to weave through terrain and dodge obstacles.
There are countless videos over the last 35 years of the KLR 650 (Regardless of the model). Being used and abused every where. Being broken with catastrophic damage and repaired over night. With plenty of videos of the KLR being flooded and brought back within the day.
These factors are why the military wanted their own version. 40ish horse power was more than enough. 90 mph top speed is more than enough. Carrying capacity, range, maintenance and sound profile was and still is the key to a reliable machine in hostile environments. Not straight line speed.
For the jungle a super light electric bike will work for getting there. But as the military is learning. Range is incredibly important. Let alone trying to recharge/refuel the damn thing. Also the fact that Thermal signatures would still be a serious issue and they're probably better off with small recon drones.

My first thoughts are that while electric bikes could potentially provide military advantages in terms of stealth and mobility through rugged terrain, eg jungle, there are serious safety and injury risks to consider. This environment presents many hazards even for experienced dirt bike riders - hidden roots, rocks, holes and drops that could easily cause accidents. When adding the stress of combat conditions and the pressure of military operations, the risk of crashes and injury would be exponentially increased.
Also, soldiers carrying heavy weapons, equipment and body armor on unfamiliar bikes in unpredictable terrain would be pushing the limits of safety. Even minor spills could lead to severe damage if dismounts and landings aren't executed perfectly.

Great video! 😂The concept of a small, fast, quick all-terrain vehicle has been sought ever since critical thinkers determined horse cav was obsolete. I was impressed when the Army played with buggies back in the 80s. WSJ did a piece at the NTC of the buggies against an armor BN or brigade. The buggies weaknesses were apparent when going head to head against the tanks and APCs but still ruled the night - damaged the armor TOC two nights in a row and destroyed it, at least as far as MILES was concerned on the third. . But when they started up-armoring the buggies and loading them down with gear, sort of defeated the purpose. I rode ATVs in the Border Patrol. They were fast, useful, but noisy. Horses and mountain bikes wre much more quiet and the horses rivaled ATV mobility. Training on all of them is essential. The BP gave us 40 hours of formal ATV training and not sure that’s always enough, but I rode harder in training than I did operating them on the line at night. I hope this concept continues to take off, but not sure how ready we are for electric bikes in combat zones.

Almost 22 years ago when I was at MOS school for diesel maintenance in the Marines (I was trained on 7 tons and Humvees) they had diesel Harley dirt bikes that were used by recon marines (this predates the revival of true special forces in the Corps).

Take a look at the Ural motorcycle and let us know your opinion of that being re-tasked for military use. Not as silent yet still lightweight, designed with a sidecar plus it has two-wheel drive that could be beneficial in some terrains.

The Ural is the bmw from WWII. But the factory was relocated to the Urals after WWII. Also the XA remained experimental in WWII. The WLA was the mass produced bike. Also WLC's were used by the Canadians.

I can believe this. Back in the 1980’s I was a member of one of the Army’s Motorcycle Reconnaissance Platoons as a Cavalry Scout at Fort Lewis, Washington. We would typically run a hush thrush exhaust and travel at slow speeds a couple gears higher than we should just to keep the noise down. However, when we had to get outta Dodge we still made too much noise.
As a Motorcycle Scout your only defense is stealth and speed. You have no armor and cannot engage targets while moving so stealth is all you have.

Love the video and love the Delta Force vibes but drone technology has moved forward in ways that would scare even the hardest and most grizzled general. They have swarms that can move through tree cover effortlessly. With the new torodial blades they can move almost quietly and the stuff from Festo IS quiet because they don't use blades, they mimic nature. AI has been integrated and advanced facial recognition software can be used to positively ID enemy targets and destroy them with a C4 charge inside them, literally flying up to your face and popping. Lots of stuff that has alot of people scared and is just never talked about because you know corrupt individuals will eventually get their hands on the tech.

I built this bike a few years ago, my question is why don’t they have a foldable solar array per battery? I have found that on a snowy day I can recharge my batteries to optimal flow (which isn’t 100%) in about 2’and half hours on a sunny day an hour will do. With planning I’m able to scout all my ranch perimeters within a day . And this takes but a moment to set up, everyone should have access to this vehicle who considers themselves in that special 3% of Americans who will defend their nation. Great content, thanks!

I remember at the recruiting station in 2013 ish bunch of young men join in as Cav Scouts, thinking they'd be riding dirt bikes, they were bummed out when they found out Cav actually used Humvees, Bradleys, and Strykers, and went with different MOS. I guess the dirt bikes is a possiblity now. I found out I couldn't get in (health), MEPS had let me in initially but the later medical testing via Navy Hospital ruled me out.

Stop lying about the KLR!!!! Even though it's one of my favorite motorcycles, it is NOT "military grade" nor is it "the same as the military uses(d)". There are large fundamental differences between the civilian version and what the military uses. It's like saying a "Hummer H3" is the equivalent of an actual HMMV.

We tried this for real in the UK for 24 air mobile brigade. It was a disaster but with Gas powered bikes Armstrong 500 models. We spent more time picking them up or trying to pick them up when they were fully loaded. Loading them in a chinook helicopter was a disaster…trying to turn them around. We proved time and time again the side by sides worked great and way more versatile than a dirt bike….
