    I appreciate all of your information. I’m still a bit confused and am trying to understand it all before I try the IP Passthrough with my AT&T BGW210-700 and setting up my Orbi RBR50 for WiFi. One question before I “bite the bullet” and try to configure this. My phone line is using this modem for calling. Is there anything I need to know about that or will the phone just work fine? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Mike! I live in a small house with 3 other people and we have a lot of devices connected to the wifi. I noticed our AT&T router/modem was not putting out great speeds even with fiber. I went to best buy and bought a Netgear Night Hawk r7000. I watched your video on how to bridge my new router to AT&T and was getting good speeds for the first week (around 450 to 550 up and down). Now I am getting barely 50. I followed your video to a tee and still can not figure out why speeds have dropped all of the sudden. I have reset both routers multiple times, but I am still getting terrible speeds. I am however getting better speeds on the AT&T routers wifi than I am on my own. Is there anything you could suggest to do? If you need any more info about my network I will be happy to let you know. Thank you so much for making these videos for people like me, who need help with this sort of thing!

      Hi Sudds! Sorry I thought a reply got sent. It sounds to me like you have a defective unit. I suggest contact AT&T to get a replacement. They will likely have to send out a tech to do some testing - they will likely have some replacement equipment which they can assign to you from their truck which will hopefully resolve your issues.

      @@MikeMu Thanks for the reply mike! I ended up returning my Nighthawk and purchased a Google nest mesh network. It was super simple to set up and has been working strong for 2 months. I got my Nighthawk working but after two weeks in auto updated and never wanted to work with my AT&T modem/router combo.

    Mike, couple of questions. Do i gain anything by upgrading to the Orbi WIFI 6 mesh system from my current Orbi 3 mesh system, when i am switching from the Spectrum internet to the AT&T Gig internet that is using the BGW320-505 model which i think is WIFI 6 already.

    • @MikeMu
      @MikeMu  3 роки тому +1

      You'd gain more speed, more coverage. So yes. But if you don't need that at the further end of your property, and can stick around within range of the BGW320, you'd be fine without upgrading. Just know that your Orbi 3, and everything connected to it isn't going to be as fast. And frankly, that's enough for most.

    • @davidwillis4545
      @davidwillis4545 3 роки тому

      Mike Mu well i do have coverage weakness on just the BGW. I have the wifi 6 version of Orbi but have not opened it yet. So i can return if there is not major benefits. But with Orbi 3 and BGW both being routers, i presume i have or will have issues. So i want to keep mesh network to get the full coverage inside and outside, but just not sure which one, and either way do i need to make Orbi an AP only, or turn off wifi on the BGW modem / router? Thanks very much for your insight and knowledge sharing.

    My question is, should the setup I followed have prevented a Double Nat setup? I have an Orbi RBR20

      Mike Mu So my issue is the Xbox is connected to one satellite upstairs, but is still showing a double NAT connection. Hard resets on both the Orbi and the Arris router were done and I left the Orbi disconnected from the Arris router until it was time to do so? I forwarded the Xbox port through the Orbi app and it seemed to work but it would automatically reset eventually.

    hello it seems like you know a lot more about routers than me so i was wondering if you know how to change your IP i got a completely new router and it did nothing it still has the same ip address i have the Arris bgw210-700 ive been getting ddos attacked and i dont know what to do at all i already called and they arent helpful i have a "dynamic" ip but it doesnt change i am hoping you can make a video and explain how to change the ip/ what i can do i rebooted my gateway everything possible nothing has helped me and i continue to get ddossed while i stream :(

    • @MikeMu
      @MikeMu  4 роки тому

      First, how do you know its a DDOS attack against you?
      Since it sounds like you are talking about the public IP (which AT&T assigns you), only AT&T can assign you a new IP address. I know even if its dynamic, the lease is often renewed to the same IP for a lot of people, so it might as well be static.
      Did you try a hard reset of your gateway? Also a reset of the ONT (there is a reset button on it).
      If none of that works, call in to cancel the service. If you disconnect, and sign up for new service, there's a good chance that you will get a new IP assigned along with new equipment. Then this time around, use a VPN when you stream.

      @@MikeMu ill try that i know its a ddoss attack because they got my ip from a xbox party and every single time i stream they hit me off so i basically cant/havent streamed in 20 days after grinding and yeah ive tried everything im just going to have to hope my ip resets later on

  • @LauryDepp

    So do you have 2 routers with the same IP Number? Or do you have 2 routers with different IP drivers ?

    • @MikeMu
      @MikeMu  3 роки тому

      Different internal. Same external.
      “IP Passthrough means the AT&T supported CPE device terminates the DSL, authenticates with the network (Receives a WAN IP) and shares that IP address with a single device connected to the AT&T supported CPE equipment. This configuration is often times suitable for a business customer desiring to connect third party equipment to AT&T supported equipment. The IP Passthrough configuration still allows AT&T support groups to access the AT&T supported equipment while allowing end-users to connect third party equipment in a configuration they desire. The IP Passthrough configuration will only allow one connection to AT&T supported equipment to be "unfiltered" or pingable from the WAN or internet side of the AT&T equipment (does not support multiple pingable connections).
      The IP Passthrough feature allows a single PC on the LAN to have the AT&T Gateway's public address assigned to it. It also provides port address translation (PAT) or network address and port translation (NAPT) via the same public IP address for all other hosts on the private LAN subnet.
      Using IP Passthrough, the public WAN IP is used to provide IP address translation for private LAN computers. The public WAN IP is assigned and reused on a LAN computer.”

      @@urfaceistoofunny Yes, you could, but I wouldn't recommend it. IP Passthrough will only work with one router. But you can just disable the routing functions of the second and use it as a switch.

      @@MikeMu Hey Mike,really appreciate the time you put into making these videos! I did have a question or series of questions. I'll start off with this, I have a BGW-210-700 with 1gig fiber service, I have the BGW in ip passthrough to my r7000 router that my pc is connected to(hard wired cate 5e). I do alot of gaming(gears of war)while behind the r7000 my NAT was open for some reason now it is not. while also behind the r7000 I have my speeds cut in half while hardwired to my pc( 248up 158 down) if I plug direct into BGW I get (946 down 418 up) In this format I still have a strict NAT but now have almost the full speeds but with no firewall protection. Any thoughts on how I can get my full speed and with an open NAT? Thank you for your time.
