- All hail Melissa Carper ! A heartland musical institution. One of the hardest working musicians in the states. Many friends of mine say she's always working and busking. This haunting nostalgic enduring gem of person swayed us on a bridge over the Cyprus swamp on a family bridge. Short but sweet moment surrounded by cotton fields. We could have listened to her all day. Maybe we have an extra vidja for ya coming in the future. Be on the lookout.

Melissa Carper is a national treasure. I first heard her as a young buck in Northwest Arkansas maybe ten years ago. I had rolled into the bar to hear some "Americana adjacent" music, but never left the front room where Melissa and her band were ripping country classics to a room packed with dancers. Truly an education. 🔥

“Americana adjacent” is a fantastic phrase. I’ve only heard the whole neo “adjacent” categorization utilized by enemies of the folks they’re characterizing. For example “Alt right adjacent” used for Austrian economic anarcho capitalist’s like myself. Meanwhile all I want is for people to end the wars, stop the rampant unjust incarcerations stemming from the drug war, and end the fed. I’m not alt right adjacent but I’m certainly AMERICANA adjacent. Peace my brothers and sisters. I’m not at war, and I pray you aren’t as well

Melissa played & busked in Eureka Springs,Arkansas for a couple of years, I knew her from when she played at the Pied Piper Pub with her friend Gina Galena, they were known as the Camptown Ladies; Melissa also played for a short while with Mountain Sprout & Sad Daddy, all in Eureka Springs. Her talent couldn’t hold her to one town, so she moved on from Eureka Springs, but we still wish her the best.🎶💕👍

The thing I like most about artists like Melissa, is that they remind the rest of us that music doesn't have to be technical or complicated to be beautiful.

Just discovered her today. Wow! It's like a country version of Billie Holiday has been resurrected. She's brilliant. Love the jazz element that her and Sierra Ferrell have brought to the country scene in recent years. Can't get enough of that old timey voice.

Melissa Carper is one of the best classic Country song writers around - Her band Buffalo Gals and her collaboration with too many songwriters are worth checking y all .. Mighty fine !!

Couple things I'm hearing differently! I might be wrong though. I'm almost referencing her studio version for more clarity in the guitar
Instead of an E7 in the verse, I think she's playing a Bdim7 (7x67xx) (basically E7/B)
End of verses 1/3/5 is F Adim7 Gm7 C7. (Adim7= 5x454x) I'm definitely hearing an Eb on top of the chord, at least in the studio version
Bridge ending is A7 Dm Gm7 C7 / Gm7 C7
This is at least the differences I'm hearing and how I've been jamming it!
@@Stoverrr Hey mate, thanks for your reply. I work with this version, so I can't say too much about the studio version. You might be right with E7/B. I tend to disagree though when it comes to the Adim7, you can see quite clearly at 0:24 she does play something different. Though I have to say my A is wrong as well. At the moment, I'm seeing it more as a reduced C7 (played as x323xx), but I'm not 100% sure about this. Really hard to tell...

This sounds gorgeous. I think that creaky old guitar adds to the magic of the voice. Lyrically it's a lot like Hogey Carmichael or Cole Porter. Great, great stuff.

I was friends with Melissa when she lived in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. I worked in a restaurant/bar there called The Pied Piper/Cathouse Lounge. At that time she was in a duo with Gina Galina, they called themselves “Camptown Ladies” the played in the bar area, they had a CD out called “Twin Cousins” & Mellisa & Gina autographed my copy, since they played in the bar that I worked in, I got to know them pretty good & became friends. She played with some other bands around town too, they were Sad Daddy, Mountain Sprout, & Buffalo Gals. She left the area some time ago but we’re still friends, we miss her in Eureka Springs, but you can’t keep good talent down. Love ya Melissa.
